Ramsey Golf & Country Club Clublines Newsletter Summer 2016

WITH AURELIAN ANGHELUSIU GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Members, We hope this publication finds you all well and trust you’re enjoying everything your club has to offer this terrific 2016 summer season! We are proud and excited to launch this new and revitalized Clublines publication. In an effort to share additional news, updates and exciting happenings, you will notice the format has changed and will feature short write-ups from each of the variou s departments which impact you directly. While the layout of this publication is a quarterly one, we will continue to send out electronic versions of our monthly Clublines Updates as in the past, with weekly reminder announcements as needed. With our tremendous and culminating event of the summer season thus far, Sounds of Summer, behind us, and with Independence Day fast approaching, we wanted to wish you all a very happy, safe and enjoyable 4th of July. Please note, with the holiday falling on a Monday this year, the Clubhouse will be closed for service – however – the golf course, pool & beach, Pool Café and our on-course Gazebo, will remain open for your enjoyment.

The remaining months of the summer prove to be busier than ever with an array of activities including Ladies Martini Night, Tequila Dinner on the Beach and Movie Night on the Beach, on top of our many men’s and ladies golf tourneys and pool & beach activities. A busy summer is indeed expected! With 2016 being my 5th year at the Club, to this day, I continue to be amazed at the beauty and tranquility of our golf course, the stunning vistas of our practice facility and 18 and 17 holes. Our Wedding Ceremony area and gardens are more beautiful than ever, and our pool and enhanced beach activities never cease to amaze. We have such a wonderful club and residential community and the most family friendly atmosphere in Bergen County, if not the state! We should all reflect on these highlights once in a while, especially when the hubbub of daily life takes over – and realize how special our club really is! Lastly and as always, please stay tuned for soon to be forthcoming reminders and updates of still many surprises we have in store for you. Wishing you a summer season!

The Graves

Jaye Benzoni

Ken and Kristin have been residents of Ramsey Golf & Country Club for the past fourteen years. The Graves call the Club “an awesome place to raise a family,” and together with their two children, Katie and Sean, they enjoy the many activities including junior golf, swim team, and kayaking on the lake.

Jaye was one of the first volunteers to assist with the direction and guidance of the Junior Golf Program. Every Tuesday, Jaye would play her round with the 9-hole ladies group, and immediately there after, assist with the Junior Golfers. Jaye signed on for every Tuesday, year after year.

After serving three years on the Board of Directors, Kristin gained perspective on what it takes to run this community and the passion members have for it. As such, she encourages new residents to get involved, take advantage of the introductory amenities and make long lasting friendships.

In return for her dedication, and flawless attendance each week, the Committee assigned Jaye to start from the first tee, making the transition from her regular golf round to the Junior Golf activity easier.

The Rellas For the last two decades, Vincent and Helen Rella have resided within the Club’s safe community where they raised their four sons. The Rella’s describe RG&CC as “friendly,” “social” and “family oriented” with a variety of fun events for both adults and children. By joining golf and paddle tennis, new members gain an unprecedented opportunity to meet great people. Helen says, “even if you don't know how to play. You will become a fast learner.”

Jaye’s husband Frank joined the junior golf activity later and also signed on for each and every Tuesday. Listing all players on the score sheets, placing them on the Leader Board, recording all scores for each golfer, posting each hole, and total score for the record were among Frank’s responsibilities. Not long thereafter, Frank earned the title of “Junior Golf Official Starter” with a hat to match. Jaye and Frank moved into Ramsey Golf & Country Club in September 1978, leading to an experience and lifestyle unsurpassed.

John Lee John considers Ramsey Golf & Country Club a “gem” with prime location to Ramsey’s Town Center. Throughout his 11 years at the Club, Mr. Lee has attended an array of social activities, many of which have led him to meeting new people.

WITH NOAH BODT PGA HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

With summer here, it brings us great opportunity to play golf and with that comes greater expectations on improving our score. The more we play, the easier it can be to go through the motions and waste shots out there. Having a routine that incorporates aim and strategy on every shot, will help you shoot the best score possible. Moreover, your routine needs to be consistent, with a purpose, and fairly quick. Before going to hit your golf ball, focus on the best strategy given the lie, conditions and pin locations. Then try getting into the habit of walking into your shot from behind the golf ball looking down your target line which will greatly improve your aim. Limit practice swings to one or two and make sure there is some purpose that involves fundamentals such as grip, posture and ball position. Lastly and maybe most importantly is to make sure you limit the time between addressing the ball and starting your swing to two seconds. This will prevent you from allowing negativity to creep into your mind that may affect your swing adversely. If you watch the tour players, their routines are the same every shot. It both focuses and relaxes the mind which will surely improve your scores.

Here at Ramsey we end up taking relief from obstructions quite often. Its important to clarify that it is not just one club length relief, but rather one club length from the nearest point of relief. That is determined by taking a stance with the club you would most likely hit, clearing yourself of the obstruction, then placing a tee where the club head rests on the ground. The one club length from that point can be with your longest club, not the club you would be using. For assistance with this rule or any others, please ask me or my staff at anytime. Enjoy your summer!

WITH KIT HEERY GOLD COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

I hope that everyone is enjoying the course so far this season. With the warmer weather upon us, it is a great time to get out there and play a few rounds. I would like to take this opportunity to share with all of you some of the behind the scenes work that is going on here at RGCC. Over the past 8 months, we have been in coordination with Golf Course Architect John Harvey, to design a “Master Plan for the golf course. This plan includes many course improvements that golfers will begin to notice coming to fruition over the next few months. These improvements include, but are not limited to, the expansion of some fairway grass lines, contouring of some bunkers, and addition of various chipping areas. Hopefully these course improvements will add more enjoyment and better playability of the golf course. The dryer weather has led to much firmer and faster playing surfaces. The greens are in great shape at the

m om en t and even #2 is making tremendous progress. That being said, it is up to all of us to ensure that the greens stay healthy and true. One easy way to do this is to fix ball marks. Not only yours, but golf etiquette is to fix 2 others as well. A ball mark that is repaired immediately will heal within 24 hours, whereas a ball mark that goes unrepaired for only 1 hour will take 15 days to heal properly. I urge you all to Please Fix Your Ball Marks, not only for yourselves, but out of respect for your fellow golfers that will be playing as well. Below is a description from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America on the proper way to fix a ball mark. If anyone has any questions or would like a demonstration, please feel free to stop me and ask. Thank you and I hope you all enjoy the rest of the season. See you on the course!!!

It may be hot out, but it’s nice and cool in the water! Summer has arrived and we are happy to see so many members relaxing poolside with the kids. Be sure to take advantage of the many programs your lifeguards have planned this summer season including both private and group swim lessons for our littlest swimmers.

Through Monday, September 5th

Monday-Friday 11:00am-8:00pm Saturday, Sunday, Holidays 10:00am-8:00pm *pool café opens one hour after pool and closes one hour prior to pool*

Kayak Usage

Kayaks and paddle boat rentals are available for a nominal fee down at the Club beach. All participants must be at least 16 years of age and waivers must be signed prior to use. Please see a lifeguard for assistance. Kayak storage racks are available by the lake for your conveniences. While these racks are available free of charge, we must ensure all kayaks are accounted for and appropriate documentation has been received. As such, the Club will be implementing kayak tags for each member utilizing the storage space. If you have already submitted a kayak

waiver, a tag will be mailed to you within the upcoming weeks. If you have not submitted a waiver, please contact the Club as soon as possible in order to avoid kayak removal.
