2024-2025

From the President

Dear Friends of Ramona,

Thank you for your generous support during our 135th Anniversary Celebration. With your support, we have been able to grow and strengthen:

• Tuition assistance

• Facility improvements

• Curricular & co-curricular programs

Your gift directly addresses critical needs and makes a lasting impact.

We are proud to share that 100% of the Class of 2025 is headed to college. We are also welcoming an incoming Class of 2029 that is 18.5% larger than last year’s—a testament to the strength of our mission.

The upcoming school year, 184 students will receive $1.6 million in tuition assistance. While the need is great, we are committed to ensuring qualified young women benefit from the outstanding education Ramona offers.

We are not just a school with girls—we are a school for girls, dedicated to upholding the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) at Ramona Convent since 1889.

You can make a difference in the life of a student. Don’t miss the opportunity to help shape a brighter future. How many people does it take to make a difference?

One smile can begin a friendship…

One star can guide a ship at sea…

One candle wipes out darkness…

One step must start each journey…

One touch can show you care…

One life can make a difference… That difference starts with you!

With gratitude,

Valeria Torres Alumna, Class of 2025

As a recent graduate, Valeria has left a lasting legacy. She served as Associated Student Body President, founded the Ballet Folklórico de Ramona, was actively involved in Campus Ministry, and the lead in the spring musical. Her schedule was full, her passions are many, and her journey is one of growth, leadership, and transformation. All made possible through the support of a scholarship.

As a freshman she was afraid to ask questions and hesitant to try new things, but through opportunities like 3D printing in the Makerspace and real-world research in AP Capstone, she explored her interests, built confidence, and found her voice. But what stands out most in her story isn’t just the range of skills she’s gained, it’s the confidence she’s built and the community that’s embraced her.

“Ramona saw something in me before I saw it in myself— and that has made all the difference. With the help of a scholarship, I’ve had the opportunity to grow not only as a student, but as a leader, a performer, a thinker, and a young woman ready to take on the world.”

In the fall, Valeria will be attending University of Notre Dame on a full academic scholarship and studying Political Science.

Project Updates

The Hillside Rejuvenation project, is replacing grassy hills with drought-resistant plants to cut water use and support local ecosystems.

Thanks to a generous donation from The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, the project is more than 50% complete! We are continuing toward a beautiful and water-friendly campus. Scan the QR and join us in transforming our hillsides.

Thanks to a generous gift from the estate of Stu Brower and equipment from the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory, the former computer lab has transformed into a modern broadcasting classroom: Tiger Studios! Students have a dynamic space to produce community news and podcasts.

Carmelita Ramírez-Sánchez

Parent & Executive Director of the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory

Mrs. Carmelita Ramírez-Sánchez’s vision and dedication to amplifying young voices played a pivotal role in bringing Tiger Studios to life. She and the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory worked closely with Ramona to transform this dream into reality. The result is Tiger Studios, an industry-standard space where students can engage with media in ways few high schoolers have the chance to.

For Mrs. Ramírez-Sánchez, it was not just about donating equipment; it’s giving students the tools and confidence to tell their own stories. By stepping into Tiger Studios, students are given the opportunity to experience firsthand what it’s like to work in the media industry, a powerful advantage as they consider their career paths.

She hopes this studio inspires others to support spaces where young women can share their voices, develop their narratives, and build the confidence to impact the world.

Dedication to Justice

An SNJM Core Value

In January 2025, the wildfires that swept through Los Angeles County, including the Eaton Fire in Altadena, deeply impacted our community. Several families were displaced, and one tragically lost their home. In the face of such loss, even those who could offer only comfort did so with open hearts.

True to our charism, our community responded with compassion and urgency. Alumnae, students, staff and parents came together without hesitation, embodying the core value of dedication to justice.

In those difficult days, we lived out the words of Blessed Marie-Rose Durocher, Foundress of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary:

“Since we tread along the same path, let us lend a hand to one another."

Each year, the entire campus completes service projects partnering with several community organizations including LA Mission, South Central LAMP, and Heal the Bay.

Financial Overview

As we expand programs and offerings, maintain the 19-acre campus, and support the needs of our diverse student body, tuition only covers 80% of the total cost of a Ramona education. Through the generous support of our contributors, Ramona is able to ensure students receive a unique educational experience aligned with the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary to empower students to unlock their God-given gifts.

We would also like to acknowledge the foundations who support our mission. Thank you Bill Hannon Foundation, Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, The Green Foundation, George H. Mayr Foundation,

The Rose Hills Foundation and the Von Der Ahe Foundation.
