Ramaz PE Curriculum Timeline 2024-2025

1st Grade

Introduction/Throwing and Catching

Rules of the Gymnasium

Throwing and Catching Practice:

Catching/Tossing to one self to try to catch. Using scarves and yarn balls.

Throwing at Target on a wall and an object placed on a cone from a 5-10 ft distance.

Progression: Catching and throwing with teammates using yarn balls from 5-10 ft away.

Games: Throw and Catch tag (throw from spots 5-10ft away), Power Tower, Kingpin dodgeball (Hitting larger target on cone), and Catch and Collect (Catching and throwing to teammates, bounce and roll catches allowed).

Soccer

Dribbling/Ball Control

Controlling the ball in one spot using toe taps, side to sides and traps.

Progression: Traveling with a dodgeball (does not roll too much) using feet ONLY.

Passing Review: Using passing form to pass the ball into a target about 5 ft away.

Progression:

Passing to a partner, trapping the ball and then passing back about 5-10ft away.

Shooting/ Goalkeeping Review:

Shooting/kicking from a spot about 7ft away from the goal without the Goalkeeper and then practicing with the Goalkeeper.

Games: Flip Soccer.

Sport Break: Cooperative games

Awareness of teammates during games Teammates having different jobs and responsibilities.

Games: 4 team tag

Sink That Ship Doctor Dodgeball

Basketball

Dribbling/Ball Control (with bouncy playground balls):

Dribbling with one hand

Dribbling continuously without stopping.

Dribbling from one side of the gym to the other without stopping.

Passing (with bouncy playground balls):

Bounce pass and chest pass at a target on a wall from 5-10 ft away.

Progression: Partner bounce/chest passing from 5-10 ft away.

Shooting (with bouncy playground balls): Hoops lowered to 8ft height and students practice shooting from 2-8 ft away from the hoop.

Game: Spot shooting challenge from scattered spots around 2-8 ft away from hoop.

Dance/ Football

Directional Music/Songs that require basic movements.

Macarena, Follow the Leader, Cha-cha slide, Mexican Hat Dance, YMCA

Football

How to hold a football when throwing, when catching and when running.

Throwing and Catching Practice:

Catching/Tossing to one self to try to catch footballs Throwing at Target on a wall from a 5-10 ft distance.

Progression: Catching and throwing with teammates using footballs from 5-10 ft away.

Games: Skill Stations, Catch and Collect, Basket Throwing, Consecutive Catches.

Fitness/Gymnastics

Learning how to fall.

Basic Rolls: Egg Roll, Pencil Roll, Log Roll, Shoulder Roll.

Basic Poses: Candle Stick

Assessment: Individual Performance of Rolls and Poses.

Fitness Warm Ups:

Jumping hula hoops

Fitness tag with basic exercises (Jumping Jacks, Squats, Planks and Arm-Circles).

Hockey

How to hold a hockey stick correctly.

Ball Control: with scarves and bubble cones

Passing: bubble cones 5-10 ft away.

Progression: using yarn balls to pass back and forth.

Shooting: Yarn balls from 5-10 ft away, first with no goalkeeper and then introduce goalkeeping.

Games: Flip Hockey

Baseball

Throwing and catching practice 5-10 ft away.

Fielding Practice (Yarn Balls):

Ground Balls: Rolling to a partner 5-10ft away. Pop-Flies: Self tossing in the air while standing on a spot.

Hitting: How to hold a bat and then hitting a yarn ball off a Tee to the wall.

Running: How to run the bases in the correct direction.

Games: Baseball Tag (running bases), HR Derby (off of tee in a station). Lag B’Omer Games Review all games being played at Lag BOmer.

2nd Grade

Introduction/Throwing and Catching Rules of the Gym

Throwing and Catching Practice.

Throwing at target on a wall and an object placed on a cone from a 10-15 ft distance.

Progression: Catching and throwing with teammates from progressive distance away. Start from a short distance and slowly move further and further (closest 2 ft, furthest 15 ft). Using a variety of yarn balls, squish balls, dodgeballs.

Games: Throw and Catch Tag (throw from spots 10-15 ft away), Kingpin Dodgeball (hitting medium target on cone), and Catch and Collect (catching and throwing to teammates, bounce catches allowed)

Soccer

Dribbling/Ball Control

Controlling a dodgeball (does not roll too much) while traveling around the gym, using feet

ONLY. Trapping when music stops or starts to lose control of the ball.

Passing Review: Using passing form to pass the ball into a target about 5-10 ft away

Progression: Passing to a partner with more accuracy, trapping the ball and then passing back about 5-10ft away between two small cones that are 2 ft apart from one another.

Shooting/ Goalkeeping Review:

Shooting/kicking from a spot about 7 ft away from the goal with the goalkeeper.

Games: Flip Soccer.

Sport Break: Cooperative games

Awareness of teammates during games. Teammates having different jobs and responsibilities to achieve a common goal.

Games: 4 team tag, Structure building, Sink that Ship, Doctor Dodgeball

Basketball

Dribbling/Ball Control:

Dribble crossing over to use both hands, 1 hand at a time.

Dribbling continuously, without stopping, while moving around cones from one side of the gym to the other.

Passing:

Bounce pass and chest pass at a target on a wall from 10 ft away.

Progression: Partner chest passing from 10 ft away. Partner bounce passing from 10 ft away but hitting a spot 5 ft away to show aim for the 1 bounce between them and partner.

Shooting: 1 Hoop lowered to 8 ft, the other is at 9 ft height and students practice shooting from 2-12 ft away from the hoop.

Game: Spot Shooting challenge from scattered spots around 2-12 ft away from the hoop height of choice (8 ft or 9 ft).

Dance/ Football

Directional music/songs that require basic movements mixed with fitness exercises.

Throwing and Catching Practice:

Throwing at a small object on a cone from a 10-15 ft distance.

Progression: Catching and throwing with teammates using footballs from 10-15 ft away.

Learning downs on offense and how to tag a person with the ball on defense.

Games: Stations, Throw and Catch Tag (throw from spots 10-15 ft away), Catch and Collect, Basket Throwing, Kick Returns, Games with Teacher QB (optional)

Fitness/Gymnastics

Learning how to fall.

Basic Rolls: Egg Roll, Pencil Roll, Log Roll, Shoulder Roll and Forward Roll

Basic Poses: Candle Stick

Assessment: Individual Performance of Rolls and Poses OR Create Group

Fitness Warm Ups:

Jumping rope OR Hula hoops.

Fitness tag with beginner exercises (Jumping Jacks, Squats, Leg Lifts and ABC Push Ups/Regular Push-ups)

Hockey

Review on how to hold a hockey stick correctly.

Ball Control: with scarves, bubble cones and then yarn balls.

Passing: bubble cones 10-15 ft away.

Progression: passing yarn balls between two small cones that are 2 ft apart from one another.

Shooting: Yarn balls from 5-15 ft away, first with no goalkeeper and then introduce goalkeeping.

Games: Hockey Pass Tag (with Bubble Cones) and Flip Hockey,

Baseball

Fielding Practice (Yarn Balls):

Ground Balls: Rolling to a partner 10-15 ft away. Catching ball by using the letter ā€œMā€ made by pinkies.

Pop-Flies: Self-tossing in the air while standing on a spot

Catching the ball by using the letter ā€œWā€ made by thumbs.

Hitting: How to hold a bat and then hitting a yarn ball off a Tee to the wall

Running: How to run the bases in the correct direction with stopping at each base.

Games: Baseball Tag (running bases), HR Derby (off of tee in a station).

Lag B’Omer Games Review all games being played at Lag BOmer.

3rd Grade

Introduction/Throwing and Catching Rules of the gymnasium

Throwing and catching practice.

Throwing at target on a wall and an object placed on a cone from a 15-20 ft distance.

Progression: catching and throwing with teammates from progressive distances away. Start from a short distance and slowly move further and further (closest 5 ft, furthest 20ft).

Using a wide variety of different sized yarn balls, squish balls, dodgeballs, footballs.

Games: Throw and Catch

Tag (throwing from a distance they feel comfortable, no spots), Kingpin Dodgeball (hitting small target on cone), and Catch and Collect (catching and throwing to teammates, two hand catches worth 1 point, 1 hand catches worth 2 points)

Soccer

Dribbling/Ball Control

Controlling a soccer ball while traveling around cones throughout the gym, using feet ONLY.

Trapping when music stops or starts to lose control of the ball

Passing Review: Using passing form to pass the ball into a target about 10-15 ft away.

Progression:

Passing to a partner with accuracy, trapping the ball and then passing back about 10-15 ft away between two small cones that are 2 ft apart from one another.

Shooting/ Goalkeeping Review:

Shooting/kicking from a spot about 7ft away from the goal with the goalkeeper.

Games: Flip Soccer. Regular Soccer games.

Games: Stations, Throw and Catch Tag (throw from spots 20ft away), Catch and Collect, Lifesaver Football, Kick Returns, Games with Teacher QB (optional).

Fitness/Gymnastics

Basic Rolls: Egg Roll, Pencil Roll, Log Roll, Shoulder Roll, Forward Roll and Cart-wheel

Basic Poses: Candlestick and Tripod/Frog Stand.

Handstand

Assessment: Individual

Performance of Rolls and Poses OR Create Group Routines.

Fitness Warm Ups:

Jumping Rope.

Fitness tag with dynamic exercises (Mountain Climbers, Ninja Squats, Leg Lifts and ABC Push Ups/Regular Pushups).

Hockey

Ball Control: with bubble cones and then hockey balls.

Passing: bubble cones 15-20 ft away.

Progression: Passing hockey balls between two small cones that are 2 ft apart from one another.

Shooting: Introduce slap shots and wrist shots with yarn balls from 5-15 ft away against the goalkeeper. Introduce face-offs for regular games.

Games: Hockey Pass Tag (with bubble cones), Flip Hockey, Hockey Games.

Baseball

Throwing and Catching Practice 15-20 ft away.

Fielding Practice (Bouncy Baseballs):

Ground Balls: Rolling to a partner 10-15 ft away. Catching ball by using the letter ā€œM' made by pinkies.

Pop-Flies: Tossing to a partner in the air about 10 ft away, trying to catch the ball by using the letter ā€œWā€ made by thumbs.

Hitting: Hitting a bouncy baseball off a Tee to a team of fielders. Hitting from teacher pitching during HR Derby.

Running: How to run the bases when the ball is hit during game play.

Games: HR Derby (teacher pitcher). Baseball Game.

Lag B’Omer Games Review all games being played at Lag BOmer.

4th Grade

Introduction/Throwing and Catching Rules of the Gym

Throwing and Catching Practice.

Throwing at a heavier target from about 20-30 ft distance. Throwing with more velocity and power to knock down the heavier object.

Progression: Catching and throwing with teammates from progressive distance away. Start from a short distance and slowly move further and further (closest 5 ft, furthest 30ft). Using a wide variety of different sized yarn balls, squish balls, dodgeballs, footballs.

Games: Throw and Catch Tag (throwing from a distance they feel comfortable, no spots), Kingpin Dodgeball (hitting small target on cone), and Catch and Collect (catching and throwing to teammates, two hand catches worth 1 point, 1 hand catches worth 2 points)

Soccer

Dribbling/Ball Control

Controlling a soccer ball while traveling around obstacles throughout the gym, using feet ONLY. Controlling the ball, while also navigating around defenders.

Passing Review: Using passing form to pass the ball with more velocity and power into a heavier target about 10-15 ft away.

Progression:

Passing to a partner with accuracy, trapping the ball and then passing back about 10-15 ft away between two small cones that are 1 ft apart from one another. One touch (back and forth passing without trapping) is encouraged.

Shooting/ Goalkeeping Review:

Shooting/kicking from a comfortable distance away from the goal with the goalkeeper.

Games: Flip Soccer. Regular Soccer games.

Sport Break: Cooperative games

Awareness of teammates during games. Teammates having different jobs and responsibilities to achieve a common goal. Students will have to move as one to travel as a team. Students will use verbal AND non-verbal communication.

Games: 4 team tag, Structure building, Sink that ship, Doctor Dodgeball, Christopher Columbus, Island Hop

Basketball

Dribbling/Ball Control:

Dribble crossing over to use both hands, 1 hand at a time Dribbling continuously, without stopping, while moving around defenders throughout the entire gym. Use creative dribbling to keep the ball under control.

Passing:

Bounce pass and chest pass to teammates on 4 corners while trying to keep the ball away from a defender.

Shooting: 1 Hoop lowered to 9ft, the other is at 10 ft height and students practice shooting from 2-20 ft away from the hoop.

Game: Spot Shooting challenge from scattered spots around 2-20 ft away from the hoop height of choice (9 ft or 10 ft).

Dance/ Football

Directional Music/Songs that require basic movements mixed with fitness exercises. Students make their own group routines.

Shooting: slap shots and wrist shots with hockey balls from 5-15 ft away against the Goalkeeper. Practice Face-Offs for Regular Games.

Games: Hockey Pass Tag (with yarn balls), Flip Hockey, Hockey Tournament.

Baseball

Throwing and Catching Practice 20-30 ft away.

Fielding Practice (Bouncy Baseballs):

Ground Balls: Bouncing a ball to a partner 15-20 ft away. Catching ball by using the letter ā€œM' made by pinkies and then transfer to throw.

Pop-Flies: Tossing to a partner in the air about 10 ft away, trying to catch the ball by using the letter ā€œWā€ made by thumbs and then transfer to throw.

Hitting: Hitting from a partner toss in station and a teacher pitching during HR Derby. Running: When to run when the ball is hit.

Games: HR Derby (teacher pitcher). Baseball Game.
