“Mi Amante, My Lover my emotional relationship with the creative process in its entirety From the narrative and interpretation of an idea through to the pursuit of the perfect picture, this complex relationship with making and my fascination with different forms of visual culture and language is both wonderfully sustaining and, at times, infuriating. The journey from the content and inspiration of the narrative to its realisation in three-dimensional form is one of mixed emotions, always presenting new and exciting challenges.
The hypnotic process of handwriting the poem over and over again allows for deep contemplation. Small parts of the narrative become key to the visual interpretation, while the application of brightly coloured, folded three-dimensional forms creates a visual kaleidoscope Clashing colours disrupt loudly before the circles return to a harmonious expression All these elements may occur within a single composition. Some pictures feature finely printed patterns and speak quietly.
Folded paper forms are arranged above the handwritten poem in a grid, so the picture appears to rotate and change. Other works do not include a written narrative, allowing for a more spontaneous, non-objective interpretation. The circle is a continuous form, but change unfolds like the stanzas of a poem or the dawning of a new day.”
