I am an interior design student at Kansas State University with a unique journey that began as a nursing major before discovering my true passion for design. Thisprojectreimaginesa16,000SFcreative Advertisingworkplacefor“NEXT’sChicago office”,designedtosupporthybrid collaboration,creativity,andemployee wellbeingacrosstwoconnectedfloors.Inspired byChicago’sdeep-rootedbaseballculture,the workplacedrawsfromAmerica’spastimeas bothaculturalandspatialframework,using familiarpatternstofostercomfort,connection, andcreativity.
Thelayoutisorganizedusingthegeometryofa baseballdiamond,providingcleardirectional flow,intuitivecirculation,andabalanceof symmetryandflexibility.Thisstructurepromotes movementandsocialinteractionwhilehelping usersnavigatethespace.Arangeofopen, shielded,andenclosedworksettingssupports neurodiverseemployees,byofferingsensory choice,predictablepathways,controlled acoustics,andadjustablelighting.Groundedin inclusivedesignprinciplesandNEXT’s“Being MoreHuman”ethos,theworkplacecreatesan environmentthatisengaging,humancentered,andsupportiveofbothfocusedwork andmeaningfulcollaboration.

Baseballstandsasapivotalpastime, offeringanEscapefromthemonotonyof dailylife.Infusingthisspiritintothe workplacewillcultivateanenvironment whereindividualsenjoytheirtime,Sparking CreativityandCollaboration.Byembracing America'scherishedpastimeintheoffice, bothemployeesandclientscan"BeMore Human",presentingideaswithwarmthand forgingDeeperConnectionswithone another.

Thisgroupprojectreimaginesaformermid-century JCPenneybuildingindowntownSalina,Kansas,asa mixed-usecommunitydestinationrootedinthe conceptofUnityThroughDiversity.Drawing inspirationfromtheancientGreekagora,thedesign positionsthebuildingasamoderncivicheart,one thatsupportscommerce,gathering,andcultural exchangewhilestrengtheningcommunityidentity.The projectembracesdualitybyintentionallyblending contrastingelements:publicandprivate,oldand new,energeticandcalm,creatingspacesthatinvitea widerangeofusersandactivitiestocoexist.Working collaboratively,ourteamdevelopedacohesive strategythatunifiesretail,incubatorspaces,afood hall,outdoorgatheringareas,andapermanent restaurantacrosstwolevels.Myindividual contributionsfocusedonconceptdevelopment, materialselection,façadedesign,andrestaurant development,ensuringthearchitectureandinteriors workedtogethertoreinforceopenness,connection, andstreetengagement.Theredesignedfaçade increasestransparencyalongSantaFeAvenue, activatingtheurbanedge,whilematerialchoices balancedurabilitywithwarmthtosupportboth everydayuseandsocialexperience.Therestaurant servesasacentralgatheringspacewithintheproject, anchoringthemodernagoraandreinforcingthe building’sroleasaplaceofsharedexperienceand connection.
