BRITAIN HAS supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine in response to the deliberate targeting of civilians by Russian forces. The air-launched bunker buster is designed to destroy fixed or stationary targets and has been used by the RAF in the Gulf, Iraq and Libya since being brought into service in 2003. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told the House of Commons that the weapon, initially flown by Tornado bombers and now Typhoon jets, would enable the Ukrainians to repulse the invaders within their own territory. He said: “The donation of these weapon systems gives Ukraine the best chance to defend themselves against Russia’s continued brutality, especially the deliberate targeting of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. Their use of Storm Shadow will allow Ukraine to push back Russian forces based within Ukrainian sovereign territory.”
