nspector Mackay decided to go on holiday after his last case. Before lea ing his oﬃce, he ga e his assistant, Lieutenant arding, the instructions for the coming week’s work.

“So, arding, is e erything clear ” Mackay asked, looking at him in the eyes.

“Yes, Sir.” arding answered, nodding his head.

“Oh quite forgot This is the dossier of the latest crime case. an you ﬁle it away, please ’m quite in a hurry. ’m lea ing in an hour, and ha en’t packed my things yet.”

“ ertainly, Sir. Where are you going on holiday ” arding asked, curiously.

“To e on. ’ e booked a cara an at a campsite by the sea. Fresh air, the sound of the wa es crashing on the shore... an you imagine how wonderful it will be, arding ”

“Of course, nspector” arding answered with a sigh. “Will you take your dog Ollie with you ” he added.

“Of course will. e’s a police dog now and has worked hard, hasn’t he See you next week, arding” Mackay wa ed goodbye and left.

At home, he packed all his things, put the suitcase and his dog’s food in the trunk of the car. e made Ollie sit in the back, got behind the wheel and sped o .

Ollie umped around and started barking. Mackay looked in the rear iew mirror and said:

“You’re right buddy, we’re on holiday so we don’t ha e to chase anyone”, and he slowed down and dro e towards e on.

The ourney was quite long and after four hours, he arri ed at his destination.

The next day, he got up early and went for a long walk along the coast.

There was nobody on the beach, and the sea was the kind of blue you see at sunrise, when the sky is clear.
