Architecture and cities are indispensable places for people to live comfortably, study, and develop culture. The Department of Architecture at Waseda University offers courses on architectural design methods in a broad sense, based on the traditions and cultures specific to each of the world’s diverse regions. The department offers a six-year curriculum that combines both undergraduate and graduate schools. The fourth year of undergraduate school and the two graduate school years, students select either an art or engineering course, and study more specialized fields of architecture. The Yaguchi laboratory studies on our surrounding urban built environment. Through understanding physical, social, ecological and technological underlying system of the cities as a whole, we conduct theoretical research and urban design exercises that focus on sustaining and enhancing built environment.
