ON THE DOCKET KICKOFF DINNER FEATURING TYRANN MATHIEU RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 29! The annual Kickoff Dinner featuring LSU legend and Super Bowl champion Tyrann Mathieu has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 29 at the Shreveport Convention Center. All tickets from the previously scheduled dinner will be valid for the event on September 29. For fans who did not have tickets to the originally scheduled dinner, individual tickets to the event are on sale for $75 apiece, and a table of eight is $600 and can be purchased by clicking the button below. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for a cocktail hour, and dinner buffets will be available starting at 6:15 p.m. The program will feature a Q&A and will begin at 7 p.m. The Q&A session will conclude with fan-submitted questions. Fans can submit their questions by emailing info@independencebowl.org. The Kickoff Dinner is presented by Hargrove Roofing, Morehead Pools, Shreveport Rubber & Gasket, Wieland and Willis Knighton Health.

RED RIVER REVEL / INDEPENDENCE BOWL DRONE & FIREWORKS SHOW! To celebrate the 50th anniversaries of both the Red River Revel and the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, the two organizations are teaming up for a Drone & Fireworks Show on the opening night of the Red River Revel on Thursday, October 8! The unique show, which is part of the year-long calendar of events in the City of Shreveport's America 250 celebration, will hit the skies right after the final music act of the night, Cowboy Mouth, finishes their performance around 9:30 pm. Come out to Festival Plaza all night to celebrate the opening of the 50th Red River Revel and stay a little later to watch the Red River Revel, Independence Bowl, Sky Elements and Pyromania light up the skies with a themed drone show and booming fireworks! You don't want to miss out on this night!

IN THE COMMUNITY INDEPENDENCE BOWL TO DONATE $26,000 TO LOCAL TEACHERS IN 2026 The Extra Yard for Teachers Big Day was Tuesday, September 15, and the Independence Bowl went BIG for local teachers once again in 2026, announcing a plan to donate $26,000 to local teachers this year through its partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers. The Independence Bowl Foundation donated a total of $1,000 to two teachers' projects on DonorsChoose. org on the Big Day – Mrs. Redmon from Stockwell Place Elementary School in Bossier Parish and Mrs. Graham from Caddo Parish Magnet High School in Caddo Parish. The Independence Bowl will also donate $1,000 DonorsChoose gift cards to 25 local educators at public schools in Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto, Red River and Webster Parishes. Fans can nominate deserving educators from Monday, September 21 through Friday, October 30 by clicking the button below:

The bowl's partnership with Flying Heart Brewing & Pub made a portion of the $25,000 possible through five Pizza & Pints for a Purpose nights at Flying Heart between May and September. Flying Heart donated a portion of its proceeds from each night to the Independence Bowl’s Extra Yard for Teachers initiative, and teachers who presented their teacher ID received 10 percent off pizzas. Through these fundraising nights, Flying Heart contributed $1,278.51 to the Independence Bowl’s Extra Yard for Teachers initiative. "Flying Heart Brewing & Pub has been an outstanding community partner for the Independence Bowl and our local educators," said Burton. "Through the Pizza & Pints for a Purpose nights, they've shown true dedication to supporting our area educators and giving back to Northwest Louisiana classrooms. We are grateful for their generosity and continued commitment to our Extra Yard for Teachers initiative." The teachers receiving the donations will be announced in November and recognized at the 50th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl on Tuesday, December 22 at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the $1,000 donations, each educator selected will receive tickets to the 2026 Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. Partnering with the College Football Playoff Foundation, the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl has donated over $142,000 to local teachers and schools since 2021. In 2025, the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl donated $40,000 to local educators in Northwest Louisiana. After this year, the Independence Bowl will have donated $168,000 to local teachers and education since 2021.

HALF A CENTURY OF INDY BOWL ROY WILLIAMS MAKES BACK-TO-BACK SOONERS ON ALL-TIME TEAM – awarded to the top defensive player in the country – and the Jim Thorpe Award as the best defensive back in the nation. He was also named a unanimous AllAmerican and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Williams was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2022 – alongside fellow Independence Bowl alum Kevin Faulk (LSU – 1995 and 1997) and Gary Pinkel (Missouri – 2003, 2005 and 2011). After forgoing his senior season at Oklahoma, Williams was selected eighth overall in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, and he quickly became known as one of the league's hardest-hitting safeties. Williams brought back two pick-sixes in his rookie season in 2002, tying the Cowboys' single-season record for interceptions returned for touchdowns. He finished as the runnerup for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team. This week’s Independence Bowl 50th Anniversary All-Time Team player release marks back-to-back players from the 1999 Oklahoma Sooners, as College Football Hall of Fame and former Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams enters the list at number 12. Williams, who was a redshirt freshman in 1999, started for the Sooners in the 1999 Independence Bowl. He collected six solo tackles, one tackle-for-loss (TFL) and one pass breakup. Like the Oklahoma program as a whole, Williams built off the 1999 season and Independence Bowl appearance and propelled his game to the next level. He was yet again a starter in 2000 and helped lead the Sooners to a BCS National Championship and an undefeated season. He set the Oklahoma defensive back record for TFL in a season with 12, and he was named first-team All-Big 12. Personally, for Williams, the 2001 season, his junior year, was his finest in Norman. Among the long list of awards he won that season are the Bronko Nagurski Trophy
The 2003 season was the best of Williams’ pro career, as he made his lone appearance on the All-Pro team – a first-team nod – and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first of five consecutive times. His stellar season helped lead Dallas to the NFL's number-one defense and to their first playoff appearance since 1999. Williams played nine seasons in the NFL – seven seasons for the Cowboys and two for the Cincinnati Bengals. Over his NFL career, he compiled 471 solo tackles, 601 total tackles, 20 interceptions, 58 pass deflections, nine forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, 24 TFL, 7.5 sacks, and three touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl every year between 2003 and 2007. The next player on the Independence Bowl's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, No. 11, will be released on Monday, September 28. Players will be unveiled individually every week, with No. 1 being announced on Monday, December 7.

HALF A CENTURY OF INDY BOWL WALK THROUGH 50 YEARS OF THREE SHREVEPORT INSTITUTIONS! As the nation celebrates America 250, three organizations in Shreveport – the Independence Bowl, Red River Revel and Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC) – celebrate 50 years, and the three legacy organizations have partnered to honor their history with 50-Year Reflection: A Historic Exhibit beginning on Saturday, August 22 at artspace. The milestone exhibit, curated by Bruce Allen, will take visitors through the storied history of all three organizations – celebrating the important people, pivotal moments and unforgettable memories of the past 50 years. Taking place at artspace at 708 Texas Street, the 50-Year Reflection will offer insight into how the Independence Bowl, Red River Revel and SRAC have been intertwined into Shreveport’s culture and helped shape the community. The exhibit will run from August 22 through October 9 and feature rare photographs and memorabilia from the last half century. 50-Year Reflection: A Historic Exhibit is free and open to the public during normal artspace gallery operating hours.
