On behalf of the board of directors and team here at Naas Racecourse, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all today for our Cheltenham Trials Raceday. This is always an exciting card, with the likes of Dinoblue, Brazil, Billaway and Its On The Line, amongst many others, who have competed on this day over the last few years.

Today’s feature is the BBA Ireland Ltd Opera Hat Chase, with a small but select field lining up for the two-mile contest. This race remembers the wonderful Opera Hat who had such a tremendous record here at Naas Racecourse and we are very appreciative of the continued support from BBA Ireland and the Cooper Family. We saw it only last week with the Irish Champion Hurdle, each year the mare’s division gets deeper and stronger and we look forward to seeing today’s field in action and wish them well.
The QuinnBet Hunters Chase is another race leading into the festival that will put the spotlight on some of the leading contenders. We are delighted to welcome back QuinnBet and they have been rewarded with a Hunters Chase that is likely to have an impact on the hunter chase division during the big spring festivals. The Irish EBF are again giving great support to us here enabling added prize money for the owners. We are delighted to welcome the team from Red Mills here as their series continues through the jumps season.
A big welcome back to Kill GAA who are having their annual fundraiser in the Panoramic Restaurant. We hope the team from Kill GAA and all their guests and supporters enjoy the day and we wish them all the best. A huge amount of work goes into organising these events and I would like to thank Kill GAA and Gillian Fox for all their hard work. It is great to see SR Ventilation, and Cavan Developments supporting their local Kill GAA club through the race sponsorship.
Hospitality restaurants are fully booked out today but there are food options available in The Post self-service, the ground floor café and coffee van in the enclosure. There are public bars available in the ground floor of the grandstand and the ground floor of The Circle. There is a Crèche available on site, turn left as you enter the enclosure and you’ll find it past the office.
Please approach a member of staff if you need anything or go to Race Day Office by the entrance where they will be happy to help you. Our next meeting is on the 22nd of February and hopefully we will see you back. Enjoy your day and have a safe journey home.
Aidan McGarry Manager

At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.

This is likely to boil down to a match between the Elliott and Mullins runners. After missing a shot at a Grade 1 at the DRF because of the ground, former high-class bumper horse JALON D’OUDAIRIES could be vulnerable. However, if allowed to take his chance, he should prove too strong for Poetisa, likely to be seen to better effect going left-handed here after an untidy round of jumping at Punchestown. Beaten only a neck in this race last year, Fairyland Opera also reverts from chasing and can prove competitive. Half A Chance is consistent and has good prospects of reaching the money.
