From ASA to Carbon we did it all, and with thousands of hours spent on water testing, our R&D program includes all aspects from the very first design idea - all the way to the recommended lay up. A new computer program has been integrated to our R&D department, allowing our in- house designers to respond to the most complex tasks.

Our aim is to use the best quality material suitable to every specific design. We have introduced several new technologies combining different qualities, for example our Custom Made Wood Sandwich technology offer the advantage of being light and at the same time adding sufficient flex to the boards, well adaptable to all kind of long boards down to the smallest Speed board. Our fin boxes are recognized as the most durable and reliable on the market. The combination of several different materials like PVC, fiberglass and Carbon ensure the highest level of structural integrity and the most secure long term fit.
Again Exocet emphasize that it is not only enough to produce excellent designs; - the end product has to stand up to the extreme stress the elements and the user is throwing at it.

Feeling light and responsive, the UW78 provides unequalled control in the jumps. We could use it in winds up to 40 knots without much trouble... On the water the performance of this board featuring a rather parallel outline are truly spectacular: planing and acceleration are almost instantaneous, which makes this Exo Wave 75 a bomb in onshore conditions, one always rides at maximum speed. The gybes are very precise and stable, altough harder to complete in side shore conditions for the lighter sailors only...
By implementing the DDSA and our new Jibe Suspension System (JSS), we have succeeded in creating boards with the smoothest ride ever. Based on continuous testing and feedback over the past 4 years, all aspects from deck, bottom and outline, to rail shape have been re-designed. Still, these features originate from the famous Original Wave line, - long acknowledged as the leading shapes for European wave style conditions, with their characteristic smooth and easy Exocet feel. The Original Wave’s were the first Exocet Production boards equipped with the shock absorbers. The new Exo Wave concept is an “all condition package” as a natural consequence of sailing everything from messy short waves to big clean rollers. The Original Wave 105 was the first wave board on the market exceeding 100 liter, and the new Exo Wave 105 is the successor catering for that specific demand. It is slightly more compact, with improved maneuverability and it is also quicker on the plane than its predecessor. Definitely a new reference in the big wave board category. We are using identical scoop throughout the whole line, and by doing so you may jump from the 105 to the 75 without noticing any change in style, - nor in the way it drives. Thin rails right at the tail for very sharp cut backs, but at the same time enough volume under the back foot for pointing ability in messy conditions. This in combination with a wider tail for instant planning, simply makes wave riding incredible. Jibes and tricks are getting super easy due to the Jibe Suspension System (JSS), and you will be able to drive the board at full blast into the most amazing turns you have ever experienced.

Cross 90 Windsurfing USA, September 05 (Joshua Sampiero) A big plus for the Cross 90 was maintaining early planing power without sacrificing top-end control. I hopped on, fully expecting to schlog, and was pleasantly surprised when I planed off effortlessly. Once on a plane, the board is able to handle anything you throw at it smack-the-lip swell slashing, short, snappy jibes, long coasting jibes and big air. But the biggest plus was never needing to get off it when the wind picked up, I was just as happy with the 4.2 as I was with the 6.2.

Cross 90 Windsurf UK, September 05; Despite being one of the smallest boards in the group, the Exocet is one of the quickest out of the blocks, possessing a low planing threshold and accelerating progressively to an impressive speed. Driven at full tilt, the Cross actually feels composed and somewhat sedate underfoot, making the rider believe they’re not going that fast; it’s only when they compare their speed relative to other people on the water that they realize they’re flying! The reason for this deceptive speed is largely down to the incredible soft, almost spongy, deck-pads that effectively iron-out all the harsh impact from chop, allowing the pilot to confidently drive every last ounce of the sail’s power into the board. Retaining its manners throughout an impressive wind range, the Cross is every bit the coastal blasting machine, feeling compact and responsive enough to handle the most severe sea states.

The Concept of the Warp Speed is that control equals high speed. We were not looking for a pure super high speed potential, but for a pure in control concept with top performance. However, the words are now out; the Warp speed is fast - actually very fast. Being able to sheet in in 40 knots and more without feeling any stress whatsoever is not a common attribute for most board shapes. The built in DDSA just give an instant easy ride. Just try and you will reveal the difference. Without absorbers it will be synonymous to using a motorbike without suspension on a dirt track !! We believed that the Warp Speed should not only be a 100% speed oriented board, but it had to be fun and it had to turn, if possible at full speed without any compromise. The rails provide excellent grip,- simply lean down into the jibe and go for it. The Warp Speed is an extension of the Turbo Boost line with identical stance. The tail width has been increased by 7 cm, which is the biggest alteration we have ever done on a formula board!! As pointed out earlier, such performance boards require different tuning from windy and choppy open sea areas to light and flat- water lake conditions.

Consequently we have emphasized a lot on the rails and footpad shape and positioning. The refined rails produce a lot more power compared to the previous board, and we have integrated the footpad into the rail to prevent contact with water spray,and thus friction going upwind..

One solution was to move the fin box as far aft as possible, and this vital alteration allowed us to move the mast foot back accordingly, - to approximately 129cm from the tail. The boards are very well equipped with multi position mast track, 80 cm long dagger board and 65 cm fin and 8 super light race foot straps. The deep V shape in the nose produce a smooth ride upwind as well as assisting the planning ability of a board only 80 cm wide. The V runs all the way to the tail, providing a super easy ride upwind – with excellent stability.

The PACER 300 and PACER 300 PRO are registered in the Race Board class (www.raceboard.org), a class which is no doubt going to be of major size and importance in the very near future. The PACER 300 has also been selected by the French Sailing Federation as an official board for 2006 Junior competitions. Why such a concept? Simply because we believe that we had to go back to the very roots of
windsurfing, - a sport that historically took off, and was built around its core,- namely easy accessible course racing. We have been analyzing the past and the present, and are proud to finally present the raceboard of the future. The PACER line is reflecting the philosophy behind the original Windsurfer, but designed and built according to modern standards and demands. The result is instant pleasure in a few knots of wind as well as amazing top end performance despite the considerable volume of 255 liters. The tail is a lot wider than traditional Raceboards,almost twice as wide as the early generation, and with its thickest area right below the rear straps. The outline is a blend of the best worlds from our vast experience of building Formula and Raceboard shapes. Those technical aspects allowed us to incorporate a deep V shape in the tail, increasing light wind performance significantly due to excellent railing abilities. The substantial amount of V also permit a very narrow “fin style” dagger board,- thus less drag and superior upwind performance. We quickly realized that an ACS (Adjustable Cutout System) did increase performance even further and integrated our ACS system from our latest Formula design. It allows you to efficiently adjust the tail lift and consequently boost max power out of the board in all conditions. A true racing machine that will be difficult to match in both light and strong conditions, as well as a very exciting board for recreational and progressive sailors.

Walking 200 meters with the board at low tide turns into a child’s play. Adapted to a total beginner weighing up to 75 kg, it’s retractable daggerboard increases its overall stability as well as permitting upwind and downwind sailing at force 2/3. Exocet then almost disappeared, but thanks to Michel Quistinic (Neil Pryde brand manager), Olivier’s father Jeanlou Chretien (Astronaut), Patrice Belbeoch (world cup racer) and Jean-Marie Guiriec (ex laminator) the company was officially established in 1993. Jean-Marie became our shaper, as his previous experience on America cup boats was very useful. He spent a few years with the “Defi France” team in San Diego, and was specialised on all the technical composite parts. The first board he ever shaped was the master for the famous AHD 267 convertible that he completed in little less than 7 hours !!!

The Exocet label then became what it is now. However, the boards were only dedicated world cup racers and specific customers for the first three years, but then tragedy struck with the death of Olivier on 9th of September 1993. He drowned on the beach of Goulien during a violent storm. Olivier was an outstanding worldclass wave sailor back then.

Exocet as a brand actually materialized in several stages. It all started out of a small workshop in the late 80’s with Patrice Belbeoch and Thierry Pen producing a few custom boards named Magic’s. The boards were then shaped by Alain Riouallec and laminated by Olivier Chretien, Olivier also had excellent shaping skills, and replaced Alain shortly after. Olivier suggested the name Exocet for the boards as he had done a few in his garage under that name.
