This course explores the development of American society and culture from colonial times to the present, examining the lived experiences, values, and identities of diverse groups in the United States. Topics include shifting social structures, immigration and migration patterns, race and ethnicity, gender roles, popular culture, and the evolution of American ideals such as freedom and equality. Through analysis of primary sources, scholarly readings, and cultural artifacts, students will gain insight into the social movements and daily lives that have shaped the nation's character, as well as the ongoing processes of change and continuity within American society.
