Speech and Hearing Sciences is an interdisciplinary course that explores the foundations of human communication through the study of normal and disordered processes of speech, language, and hearing. Students will examine the biological, acoustic, psychological, and social aspects of speech production and perception, as well as the anatomy and physiology of the auditory and speech systems. The course provides an overview of typical development, assessment, and intervention strategies for communication disorders, and introduces students to current research and clinical practices in the field. This knowledge serves as a foundation for advanced study or careers in speech-language pathology, audiology, or related health and educational professions.
