Course Introduction
Sociology of Social Issues explores the complex ways in which social problems emerge, are defined, and persist within society. This course examines topics such as inequality, poverty, racism, gender discrimination, crime, and environmental challenges through a sociological lens, analyzing root causes and consequences at both individual and structural levels. Students will critically engage with theories and research to understand how social institutions, cultural norms, and power dynamics contribute to the construction and resolution of social issues, and explore strategies for social change and policy intervention in contemporary contexts.
