Course Introduction
Social Stratification explores the structured forms of social inequality found in societies, examining how resources, opportunities, and privileges are distributed across different groups and classes. The course analyzes the causes and consequences of stratification based on factors such as class, race, ethnicity, gender, and age, drawing on classical and contemporary sociological theories. Students will investigate the persistence of inequalities, the mobility within and between social strata, and how institutions like education, labor markets, and political systems contribute to or challenge existing stratification systems.
