This course explores the roles, functions, and structures of social services within contemporary society, focusing on how these services address various social problems and support individuals, families, and communities. Students will examine the historical development of social services, current models of service delivery, and the ethical, legal, and socio-political factors influencing practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding the needs of diverse populations, policy frameworks, and the impact of globalization and technological change on social service systems. Through case studies and discussions, students will gain insights into the challenges facing social service professionals and develop skills to critically assess and contribute to the field.
