Religion and Society explores the complex interplay between religious beliefs, practices, and institutions with social structures and cultural norms. This course examines how religion shapes, and is shaped by, social processes such as identity formation, power dynamics, conflict and cohesion, and globalization. Students will analyze both historical and contemporary case studies from diverse traditions, considering topics like secularization, religious pluralism, and the role of religion in public life. Through interdisciplinary approaches, the course encourages critical thinking about religions influence on issues such as gender, race, law, and social change.
