Course Introduction
Medical Microbiology explores the role of microorganisms in human health and disease, focusing on bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites that cause infections. The course covers microbial structure, physiology, genetics, and the mechanisms by which pathogens interact with hosts and evade immune defenses. Students learn about the diagnostic methods used to identify infectious agents, principles of epidemiology, antimicrobial therapies, and strategies for prevention and control of infectious diseases. Emphasis is placed on clinically significant pathogens and the impact of emerging infectious diseases on global public health.
