Course Introduction
Marine Geology explores the structure, composition, and dynamic processes of the ocean floor and coastal margins. Students will examine topics such as plate tectonics, sedimentology, paleoceanography, and the formation and evolution of ocean basins. The course covers methods of seafloor mapping, the interpretation of marine sediments and rocks, and the influence of geological processes on marine environments. Emphasis is placed on understanding how the Earth's geology affects ocean circulation, marine ecosystems, and the natural resources found beneath the sea.
