Introduction to Gerontology explores the multidisciplinary study of aging and the aging process in human beings. The course examines the biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging, considering both individual and societal perspectives. Students will investigate the demographic shifts associated with aging populations, the common theories of aging, and the physical and cognitive changes that occur throughout late adulthood. Additional topics include age-related diseases, health services, mental health, policy issues, and the impact of culture and family on the experiences of older adults. This course provides a foundational understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with an aging society.
