Gerontology is the multidisciplinary study of the biological, psychological, and social processes associated with aging and the implications of an aging population. This course explores theories and research on aging, examines the complex changes individuals experience over the life course, and addresses societal responses to the needs and contributions of older adults. Topics include age-related health changes, cognitive and emotional developments, the impact of culture and policy on aging, and the challenges and opportunities presented by increasing longevity. Students will gain an understanding of the factors affecting quality of life in later years and the roles of professionals and caregivers in supporting aging individuals.
