Diagnostic Microbiology is a course that focuses on the principles and techniques used to identify and characterize microorganisms responsible for human disease. Students will explore methods for isolating and culturing bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites from clinical specimens, as well as the use of staining, biochemical testing, serology, and molecular diagnostics in microorganism identification. The course also covers concepts of infection control, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and interpretation of laboratory results, preparing students for roles in clinical and research laboratories.
