Course Introduction
This course provides an in-depth examination of the unique challenges and considerations in the acute care management of elderly patients. Students will explore the physiological changes of aging, common acute conditions in older adults, and evidence-based strategies for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary care, functional assessment, medication management, delirium prevention, and ethical/legal issues in acute settings. Through case studies and clinical scenarios, students will develop the skills necessary to deliver safe, compassionate, and effective acute care tailored to the needs of the geriatric population.
