From the Clubhouse Another busy day at the club today with the 3rd annual Jeff Wall Classic, a great event to be able to showcase our beautiful course and friendly hospitality. Friday (23rd February) also sees an exciting event taking place at the club, a Wedding. All Members are advised that the clubhouse will be closed for set up from 4pm. The course will still be open for play - if you need to access the storeroom please do so before 4pm as the balcony will also be occupied by the wedding guests. Entry forms for the Queenscilff Golf Club Annual Fundraiser Golf Day, being held on Friday 8th March, have been distributed via email and available at the clubhouse. If you would like another sent to you please email nicci@queenscliffgolfclub.com.au. This year we are proud to be supporting two very worthwhile and sometimes overlooked local organisations ‘the Queenscliffe & District Men’s Shed’ & ‘The Queenscliff Lion’s Club’. We would love to see you there!
Last call for volunteers to join in the QGC Members working bee on Tuesday 20th February. Please let Nicci or Peter McSween know by Monday if you would like to be involved. We start work at 8am. Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Lastly thank you to those Members who have paid their annual Subs so promptly. The Course Report..... This week we started to tackle the mound of the left of the 1st fairway. Re-sodding out the area where it had been seeded with tall fescue, but it had died off. This will now be buffalo grass like most of our rough areas around the course. This will be more drought tolerant as we don’t have fairway irrigation. The recent hot weather and dry winds caused damage across the course. Drying out areas on fairways, tees and rough. The dangerous winds had spread tree debris all across the course. Many greens needed to be cleaned up before rolling, and a few fallen trees required clean up for golf playability Wednesday morning. My staff and I have been watering dry areas across the course vigorously. While dealing with leaks on the course and having to have some of the mainlines shut off for repairs. These fairway areas are taking a lot of water to show even any sign of results. We are praying for rain! Hope everyone has a great weekend out on the course. Jake
Men’s Pennant The second and final pennant practice will be held at Queenscliff on Sunday 25 Feb with first tee off at 0824. Could all those playing be at Queenscliff GC by 0800 so that we can arrange groups for the day. This may be against the Lonsdale Links pennant squad but this is still to be confirmed.
