The Course Report..... We started the week off by dusting the greens with our top dressing sand. Dusting is an important practice to do for our greens as it improves the smoothness and firmness of the surface. It helps promote the grass to creep into any imperfection spots like scaring from disease. Later on in the week we put out a trial of a product called Pylex. It is to suppress the couch and kikuyu encroachment into our greens. This has been a problem for many years with no product on the market available to be selective to couch and kikuyu in bentgrass greens. In the next week or two we should see some signs of this product working its magic in these major areas. Hopefully with no damage to our desired turf species on our greens. We have continued with more works on the 3rd bunker. Planting serrated tussock on the far end mound of the bunker. This will tie in the right hand side of the 3rd hole and the tussocks on the tee. We have been planting these tussocks over the past year or so to really incorporate the coastal island feel to the course. There will be more planting over this Autumn/Winter. A small area we planted out this week was left of the 14th Womens tee. This area was always hooped off to stop traffic from going down there. We had a beautiful very old limb of a moonah fall at the back of 15th green so we used this in this area as a bit of a feature, then surrounded with tussocks. Men’s Pennant Update Queenscliff had another successful week of pennant with both teams winning and remaining undefeated after Round Four. This leaves both teams on top of their respective ladders with two rounds to go. The Division Four team travelled to East Geelong for a danger game against Ocean Grove, which were one of last year’s finalists. It was a close fought contest but with three matches in each, Michael Havelberg won the deciding contest in the number one position to clinch the win. The Handicap East team travelled out to Lara and managed another strong win against Geelong. This was close to being another whitewash for the Handicap team with only the one match being lost on the 18th. RSL Golf Day Monday 22nd April QGC Members $60 entry fee The local RSL sub branch is a non profit organisation and supports all aspects of veterans and their families welfare All funds generated on the day will be allocated towards building maintenance funds at Queenscliff Two person Ambrose format with a shotgun start at 8am Golf Link handicaps will apply and those without a handicap will be issued with daily handicap for the event Refreshments will be available throughout the day and a light luncheon will be served at the completion of play Raffles and spinning wheel will be conducted in the clubhouse during and at the completion of lunch along with the presentation of prizes to the winners of the different categories Entry will be via entry form only Entry form available by emailing your request to qptlrslgolf@zohomail.com.au
