Member bookings & No Shows We have been noticing and increase in the number of no shows for Members bookings, especially on Wednesday and over the Weekends. If you are unable to play please call to cancel your booking, especially as we approach the holidays.
The Moss Report..... One of the first things I noticed when I was appointed Course Super was that the moss needed some attention. I was aware of a handful of products on the The 15th hole as the ‘trial’ green as it was the most affected. One of the first things we did was to get greater air circulation around the green by lifting lower branches of surrounding trees (see before and after photos). Focusing especially on the SE side where our prominent wind blows. The greater air flow allows moisture on the green to dry out (moss thrives in moisture).

Next step was to open up the moss with dethatching heads (see picture 2). This allows the moss to further dry out and intake the product more efficiently. Next we applied the first application of product and then a second application was done 14 days later. Seeing how well the moss has responded to this practice, we will continue this process through the course. Happy Golfing! Jake

GYE charity event A little bit about GYE... the Geelong Youth Engagement... and why QGC supports this important local program THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION! Excerpt from GYE website The Geelong Kokoda Youth Program engages young people from every state secondary and many of the private secondary schools in the Geelong region, and we help them work through the challenges they are facing in their lives. The reason for the disconnection can include truancy, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, suicidal tendencies, self-harming, anti-social behavior, family violence. Up to 24 at risk young people are selected to undertake this intensive year long program which involves personal development, fitness, health, diet and most important role modelling with stable and genuine support. The young people participate in 20 weeks of physical training along with program mentors from local business and government organisations to at the end walk the 96km Kokoda Trek in Papua New Guinea. The trek also educates the students about the campaign in which the Australian soldiers partook during World War II, motivated by the Kokoda pillars – Courage, Endurance, Mateship, Sacrifice.
Queenscliff Golf Club & The Lions Club of Queenscliff The Lions Club of Queenscliff / Point Lonsdale (LCQPL) are cooperating with the Queenscliff Golf Club (QGC) to join the recently announced Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS). The aim of this partnership is to collect the empty drinking containers (bottles and cans) on Swan Island and return the financial benefits from the CDS directly to the local communities. This partnership will also significantly reduce the QGC waste to landfill. With the cooperation of members, staff and guests we ask everyone to deposit all drink containers in the bins provided. Collection bins have been placed throughout the club house and we anticipate that additional collection bins will be placed around the course within the next two weeks. Like the Queenscliff Golf Club, the Lions club of Queenscliff / Pt Lonsdale is one of the oldest institutions in the community. The club is now 62 years old being one of the earliest Lions Clubs in Australia. It is estimated that the Lions Club during this time has distributed over $5M and provided countless hours of service to the local community. In order to continue providing a service to the Queenscliff / Pt Lonsdale community for another 62 years the Lions club is always looking for new members and friends to join this worthwhile cause.
