Inordertopreventpersonalinjuryduringinstallationandremovalof theGPSreceiver,useanapprovedaccesssysteminordertoreachthe mountinglocationoftheGPSreceiverontopofthecab.

CrushingPreventionandCuttingPrevention

Supporttheequipmentproperlywhenyouworkbeneaththeequipment.Donotdependonthe hydrauliccylinderstoholduptheequipment.Anattachmentcanfallifacontrolismoved,orif hydrauliclinesbreak.

Unlessyouareinstructedotherwise,neverattemptadjustmentswhilethemachineismoving. Also,neverattemptadjustmentswhiletheengineisrunning.

Wheneverthereareattachmentcontrollinkages,theclearanceinthelinkageareawillincreaseor theclearanceinthelinkageareawilldecreasewithmovementoftheattachment.Stayclearofall rotatingandmovingparts.

Keepobjectsawayfrommovingfanblades.Thefanbladewillthrowobjectsorcutobjects.Do notuseakinkedwirecableorafrayedwirecable.

Weargloveswhenyouhandlewirecable.Whenyoustrikearetainerpinwithforce,theretainer pincanflyout.Thelooseretainerpincaninjurepersonnel.Makesurethattheareaisclearof peoplewhenyoustrikearetainerpin.

Inordertoavoidinjurytoyoureyes,Wearprotectiveglasseswhenyoustrikearetainerpin.

Chipsorotherdebriscanflyoffobjectswhenyoustriketheobjects.Makesurethatnoonecanbe injuredbyflyingdebrisbeforestrikinganyobject.

Operation

Clearallpersonnelfromthemachineandfromthearea.

Clearallobstaclesfromthepathofthemachine.Bewareofhazards(wires,ditches,andsoon).

Besurethatallwindowsareclean.

Securethedoorsandthewindowsintheopenpositionorintheshutposition.

Adjusttherearmirrors(ifequipped)forthebestvisibilityclosetothemachine.

Makesurethatthehorn,thetravelalarm(ifequipped),andallotherwarningdevicesareworking properly.

Fastentheseatbeltsecurely.

Warmuptheengineandthehydraulicoilbeforeoperatingthemachine.

Onlyoperatethemachinewhileyouareinaseat.Theseatbeltmustbefastenedwhileyouoperate themachine.Onlyoperatethecontrolswhiletheengineisrunning.

Whileyouoperatethemachineslowlyinanopenarea,checkforproperoperationofallcontrols andallprotectivedevices.Beforeyoumovethemachine,makesurethatnoonewillbe endangered.

Donotallowridersonthemachineunlessthemachinehasthefollowingequipment:

•Additionalseat

•Additionalseatbelt

•RolloverProtectiveStructure(ROPS)

Noteanyneededrepairsduringmachineoperation.Reportanyneededrepairs.

Avoidanyconditionsthatcanleadtotippingthemachine.Themachinecantipwhenyouworkon hills,onbanksandonslopes.Also,themachinecantipwhenyoucrossditches,ridges,orother unexpectedobstructions.

Avoidoperatingthemachineacrosstheslope.Whenpossible,operatethemachineuptheslopes anddowntheslopes.

Maintaincontrolofthemachine.

Donotoverloadthemachinebeyondthemachinecapacity. Besurethatthehitchesandthetowingdevicesareadequate.

Neverstraddleawirecable.Neverallowotherpersonneltostraddleawirecable.

Beforeyoumaneuverthemachine,makesurethatnopersonnelarebetweenthemachineandthe trailingequipment.

AlwayskeeptheRolloverProtectiveStructure(ROPS)installedduringmachineoperation. Monitorthelocationofcomponentsthataremountedtothedrum.Ensurethatthecomponentsdo notcomeintocontactwithotherpartsofthemachineduringoperation.

ThedisplayisacomputerthatrunsthefirmwarefortheCat®CompactionControl.Thissection describestheoperationofthedisplay.

WorkingwiththeDisplay

ThedisplayisusedtooperatetheCatCompactionControl.TheCB460andCB450hasacolor LCDscreentodisplayguidanceandpush-buttoncontrolstooperatethesystem.Thedisplay containsinternallightbarsandaUSBflashdriveport.TheUSBflashdriveisforloadingand savingmachineanddisplayconfigurationdata,andforloadingandsavingprofilesandmodels. Thesoftkeys(3)arethesixphysicalkeysthatarelocatedimmediatelybesidetheLCD.Softkeys (3)areusedinordertooperatethefunctionshownonthesoftkeylabellocatedtotheleftofthe softkey.

SoftKeyLabels

Thesoftkeylabels(2)aregraphicalkeysthatappearattherightsideofthescreen.Inorderto activatethedisplayedfunction,pressthesoftkeythatisdirectlybesidethesoftkeylabel.For example,inordertochangethedrumfocus,pressthesoftkeythatislocateddirectlybesidethe softkeylabelthatcontainsthe"Drum:Left",and"Drum:Right"icons.

Softkeyfunctionsrelatetotheparticularscreensordialogs.Thesefunctionsareonlyavailable whenthesescreensordialogsareaccessed.Forexample,"NewLevel"onlyappearsonthe "DesignSelection"screen,asthatfunctionrelatesonlytothatscreen.

Ifasoftkeyhasnofunctioninascreenoradialog,thelabelforthesoftkeyisblank.

Theicononasoftkeylabelcanshowoneofthefollowingicondetails:

•Adescriptionoftheoperationthatisperformedisshownwhenthesoftkeyispressedonce.

•Thesettingthatisselected.Theicononthesoftkeylabelchangeswhenyoupressthesoft keytoswitchbetweenoptions.Forexample,thesoftkeyicons"Drum:Left"and "Drum:Right"showthesideofthedrumselectedforhorizontalguidanceonthreedimensionalsystems.Thecurrentend(LeftorRight)showsontheicon.

Somesoftkeylabels(2)willappearinmorethanonedialog.Thefunctionofthesoftkeyisthe samefunctionastheotherdialogs.

GuidanceSoftKeyIconDescriptions

GPS-Thissoftkeyallowstheoperator tochangethe"GPSAccuracyMode"of "Fine","Medium",or"Course".

Direction:Forward-Directionof motioniscalculatedtobeforwards. Presstoopenthedirectiondialog.

Direction:Reverse-Directionof motioniscalculatedtobeinreverse. Presstoopenthedirectiondialog.

RecordPoint-Recordapoint,when pointrecordingactive.

MapRecordingSoftKeyDescriptions

ResetMap-Presstheresetmapiconto openthe"ResetMap"dialog.Bydefault, thissoftkeyisonlydisplayedinmanager modeforallmachinetypesexcept compactors.

Note:Compactorsrequireyoutoresetthemapmanually.Enter"Mapping/Recording"inthe setupmenutoresetthemap.

Mapping:Auto-Mapdataisrecorded whenthemachineisconsideredtobe working,forexamplewhenacompactors drumisvibrating.Presstochangemap recordingtotheOnmode.

Mapping:Off-Mapdataisnot recording.Presstochangemaprecording totheAutomode.

Mapping:On-Mapdataisrecording continuously.Presstostoprecording mapdata.

SoilCompactorSoftKeyIcons

Drum:Left-Focusisontheleftsideof thedrum.Presstochangefocustothe rightsideofthedrum.

Drum:Right-Focusisontherightside ofthedrum.Presstochangefocustothe leftsideofthedrum.

HorizontalOffset-Presstoopen "HorizontalOffset"dialog.

VerticalOffset-Presstoopen"Verticle Offset"dialog.

Proofing:Off-Proofingrundataisnot recording.Presstostartrecordingproofing rundata.

Proofing:On-Proofingrundatais recording.Presstostoprecordingproofing rundata,andtoopenthe"ProofingRun Summary"dialog.

PowerKey

Thepowerkey(12)hasthefollowingfunctions:

•Turnonthedisplay.

•Turnoffthedisplay.

Inordertoturnonthecontrolbox,pressthepowerkey.Afterabriefpause,anopeningscreen appears.

Note:Ifthesystemdetectsupgradefiles,othersystemfiles,orthattheoperatingsystemisoutof date,contactyoursupervisorimmediately.

Inordertoturnoffthedisplay,pressandholdthepowerkey(12)forseveralseconds,untilthe displayshutsdown.Thisdelayreducestheriskofinadvertentlyshuttingoffthepower.Youcan turnofftheCat®CompactionControlsystemfromanyscreenorfromanydialog.

MenuKey

Pressingmenukey(11)willdisplaythe"SetupMenu"onthedisplay.

EscapeKey

TheEscapekey(7)allowstheoperatortoexitfromadialogwithoutsavingchanges,orallowsthe operatortoexitfromamenu.

"OK"Key

"OK"key(9)allowstheoperatortosavechangesthataremadeinadialog,andallowsthe operatortoexitthedialog.

NextKey

Nextkey(4)displaysthenextguidancescreen.Additionally,thenextkeyselectsthenextfieldin adialog.

ArrowKeys

Usearrowkeys(8)toperformthefollowingactions:

•Movewithinmenusandlists.

•Entertextornumbersintodataentryfieldsindialogs.

•Panthe"Planview",panthe"Crosssectionview",orpanthe"Profileview".

Navigatingwithinmenusandlists

Inordertochooseanitemfromamenuoralist,completethefollowingsteps:

1.Pressthearrowkeysinordertohighlightthedesiredoption.

2.Press"OK"key(9).

Enteringdata

Intextandnumberfieldsinanyofthedialogs,completethefollowingactions:

•Presstheuparroworthedownarrowinordertoscrollthroughtheavailablecharacters.

•Presstheleftarrowortherightarrowinordertomovebetweencharacters.

ZoomInKey

Zoominkey(5)isusedtozoominthecurrentview.Whenyouzoomin,youseemoredetailon thescreen.Asyouzoomin,lessofthedesignandlineworkareshown.Youcanzoominuntilthe drumfillsthescreen.

Holdingdownonzoominkey(5)allowstheoperatortozoomtothemachine.Zoomingtothe machinewillresizethecurrentviewaroundthemachinesymbol.Thisfeatureisonlyavailablein the"PlanView"and"Cross-SectionView"whenadesignisloaded.In"PlanView",zoomingthe machinewilldisplayfivedrum-widthsaroundthemachine.In"Cross-SectionView",zoomingto themachinewilldisplaytwodrum-widthsoneithersideofthemachine.

ZoomOutKey

Zoomoutkey(6)isusedtozoomoutthecurrentview.Whenyouzoomout,youseelessdetailon thescreen.Asyouzoomout,moreofthedesignandlineworkareshown.Youcan`zoomoutsofar thatthemachineisbarelyvisibleonthescreen.Whenyouzoomouttothisdegree,themachine symbolisnolongerdrawntoscale.Keepingthemachinesymbollargemakessurethatyoucan alwaysseethemachinesymbolinthecurrentview.

Holdingdownonthezoomoutkeyallowstheoperatortozoomtothewholedesign.Thisfeature isonlyavailableintheplanviewandcross-sectionViewwhenadesignisloaded.

DisplayBrightness

Thedisplaybrightnesscanbeadjustedbyholdingthemenukeyandpressingthezoominkeyor thezoomoutkey.

USBPort

Note:TheUSBportisonlyintendedforuploadinganddownloadingdatafilesfromaflashdrive.

USBPortandDataStorage

Filesanddataarestoredonthecontrolboxinanareaknownassystemmemory.Thefilesand datainsystemmemoryareusedbythesystemandthereisonlylimitedsitesupervisoraccessvia thecontrolbox.

Toaccessthefilesanddatainsystemmemory,transferthefilesfromthecontrolboxontoaUSB flashdrive.ThefilesanddataontheUSBflashdrivecanbedirectlyaccessedfromalaptoporan officecomputer.

Note:WhenyouinsertaUSBflashdriveintothecontrolbox,systemoperationistemporarily disabled.SystemoperationresumeswhentheUSBflashdriveisremoved.

TheUSBflashdrivefolderstructureis:

•Attherootdirectorylevelisa"MachineControlData"folder.

•Withinthe"MachineControlData"folderaremachine-specificfoldersbasedonmachines names,whichcontainmachine-specificdata.Forexample,a"SC"folderforsoilcompactor.

Note:ThesystemwillcreatefoldersiffoldersdonotexistwhenfilesaretransferredtotheUSB flashdrive.

ToinsertaUSBflashdrive,completethefollowingsteps:

1.LifttheUSBportdoorwiththeendoftheUSBdrive.

1.Press"AddfromUSB"or"OverwritefromUSB"softkey.Datainthe"MachineControl Data/MachineName"folderandsubfolders,andthe"MachineControlData/All"folderof theUSBflashdrivetransferstothecontrolbox.

2.Aprogressbarappears,showingtheprogressofthedatatransferasshowninIllustration5. Toexittothepreviousmenu,press"OK"orremovetheUSBflashdrivefromtheUSBport onthecontrolbox.

Ifmorespaceisneededonthedisplay,contactyoursitesupervisortodeletesomeunneededfiles.

WorkingwithDialogs

The"systemsetup","alignmentselection","horizontaloffset"selection,"verticaloffset"selection, "designselection",andthe"SetupMenu-Configuration"optionscreensarecalleddialogs.Use dialogsinordertoenterdata.UsethedialogsinorderfortheCat®CompactionControlsystemto besetupaccordingtoyourrequirements.Theselectedfieldinadialogisidentifiedbytheblue backgroundcolor.

Pressthenextkey(4)onthedisplayinordertomovetodifferentfieldswithinthedialogs.

Pressthearrowkeys(8)onthedisplayinordertoenterdata:

Theuparrowstepsthroughtheuppercaseletters"AthroughZ",thenumbers"0through9",the decimalpoint".",thenegativesign"–",thepositivesign"+",aspace,andbackto"A".

Note:Availablevalueswilldependonthetypeoffieldthatisselected.Forexample,theonly valuesthatareavailablefornumberfieldsare0through9,thedecimalpoint".","–",and"+".

Thedownarrowstepsthroughthesamecharacterset,butinreverse.

Whenyouchangeacharacterinafield,theuparrowandthedownarrowstartsteppingfromthe existingcharacter.

Therightarrowstepstothenextcharactertotheright.Infieldsthatallowspaces,presstheright arrowtwiceinordertoinsertaspace.

Theleftarrowisusedinordertomovebackonecharactertotheleft.Thismovedeletesthe characterinthespacetotheleft.

Dialogsmaycontainanyofthefollowingitems:

Textfields-Usethetextfieldsinordertoenteryourowninformation.Forexample,whenyouset upthenameofyourlevelsurfacedesignorslopingsurfacedesign,usearrowkeys(8)toenterthis data.

Numberfields-Usethenumberfieldsinordertoenterrequiredvalues.Forexample,whenyou setuptheverticalandhorizontaloffset,usearrowkeys(8)inordertoentervaluesintothese fields.

Listboxes-Listsoptionsorpossibleselections.Usearrowkeys(8)inordertoselectthelisted item.

"NoGPSReceiverData"

Anerrorsuchas"NoGPSReceiverData"willcauseinaccurateguidance.Whenanerroroccurs,a messageflashesonthescreen.Guidanceisnotprovidedundertheseconditions.Formore information,RefertoOperationandMaintenanceManual,"FlashingMessages".Illustration6is anexampleofawarningmessage.

NoGPSreceiverdatamessage.

The"NoGPSReceiverData"warningappearswhenthereceiverhasstoppedoutputtingdatafor atleast1.5seconds.

Hourglass

Whenthesystemperformsanoperationthattakesmorethanafewseconds,anhourglassappears onthecurrentscreen.Forexample,thehourglassappearsinthefollowingsituations:

•Thehourglassappearsinthe"PlanView",the"CrossSectionView",orthe"ProfileView", whilethesoftwareupdatesthedisplayafterapanorzoom.

•Thehourglasswillappearinthe"SelectDesignFile"dialogwhileadesignisbeingloaded fromtheinternalmemory.

3DVerticalGuidance-3Dvertical guidanceinformationisbeingprovidedby aGPSreceiver.Theverticaloffsetwillbe displayed.

3DHorizontalGuidance-3Dhorizontal guidanceinformationisbeingprovidedby aGPSreceiver.Thehorizontaloffsetwill bedisplayed.

NoAvoidanceZoneGuidance-No avoidancezoneguidanceisavailable.

LightBars

Thedisplayinsidethecabistheprimarymethodforprovidingguidanceinformationtothe operator.Asecondarymethodofprovidingguidanceisthelightbar.Thelightbarisintegrated intotheCB460display.ThelightbarcontainsamberandgreenLEDsthatprovideavisual indicationtotheoperator.

InaCompactionapplication,ifthedrummovesabovedesign,LEDsonthetophalfofthelight barturnon.Ifthedrummovesbelowdesign,LEDsonthebottomhalfofthelightbarturnon.

Thelightbarprovidesguidancebymeasuringthedistancebetweenthedesignandapointof referenceonthecenterofthedrum.

ReadingtheLightBar

ThenumberofLEDsthatisturnedonprovidesavisualindicationofthedistancebetweenthe pointofreferenceandthedesign.Tousethelightbartoprovideanideaofongradetolerance,set the"Range"toapproximatelyseventimestheongradetolerancevalue.

Forexample,iftheongradetoleranceofthedesignis3inches,settheRangeat20inches.The LEDsfromthecenterofthelightbartothetopofthelightbarwillnowrepresent20inchesonthe design.

Ifyouareoutofthedesigntolerance,byasmallamount,onlyoneamberLEDwillbelit.The LEDthatwillbelitwillbetheoneclosesttothegreenLED.Asyougetfurtherawayfromthe designtolerance,moreamberLEDswillilluminate.Thefurthestawayindicationiswhenonlythe oneamberLED,furthestawayfromthegreen"ongrade"LED,isilluminated.

TheCat®CompactionControlisdesignedforearthmovingequipmentintheconstructionindustry. TheCat®CompactionControlusestheGlobalPositioningSystem(GPS)toprovideoperatorswith accuratethree-dimensionalguidance.

TheideabehindtheCat®CompactionControlissimple.Computersanddesignsoftwareproduce accurate3Dmodelsofprojectdesigns.Inthepast,thesemodelsstayedintheofficewiththe engineer.Theengineergaveinformationtothesurveyor.Thesurveyorthenputstakesintheground toguidethemachineoperators.

WiththeCat®CompactionControl,the3Dmodelcomesintothefieldasadesignsurface.Satellites canaccuratelydeterminethepositionofthedrumonyourmachineinbothhorizontaldirectionand theverticaldirectiononthedesignsurface.Thecompactionamountthatistobeappliedtothedesign surfacecanthenbedirectlycomputedonthemachinetoprovideyouwithguidance.

TheGlobalPositioningSystem(GPS)

GPSisasystemofsatellitesthatorbittheearth2timeseachdayathighaltitudes.Theradiusofthe orbitisapproximately26600km(16528mi).GPSprovidesprecisetimingandpositioninganywhere onearth,24hoursperday,withnochargetousers.

NewersatellitereceiversarealsoabletoreceivedatafromtheGlobalNavigationSatelliteSystem (GLONASS).GLONASSconsistsof21satellitesthatarepositionedin3orbitalplanes,with3spares inorbit.Thethreeorbitalplanesareseparatedby120degrees,andthesatelliteswithinthesameorbit planeby45degrees.Eachsatellitecompletesanorbitinapproximately11hoursand15minutes, whichallowsmoresatellitestobeusedforthesolution.

Ingeneralterms,asatellitereceivercomputesapositionthatisbasedonradiosignalsthatare receivedfromseveraldifferentsatellites.Thesatelliteshavehighlyreliableclocks,sothetimingof thesesatellitesignalsareaccurate.Thesatellitereceivercalculatestherelativedistancetoeachofthe satellites.Thiscalculationisbasedonthetraveltimeofthesignalandthespeedoflight(speedofthe signal).Thereceiverthenusesthesedistancestocalculatethelocationofthereceiveronearth.

Asabroadcastonlyradiosystem,satellitesupportsanunlimitednumberofusers.Thefrequencies thatarebroadcastpenetrateclouds,rain,andsnow.Satellitecanalsoaccuratelyguideoperationsin fogordust,aswellasatnight.Therearedifferentlevelsofprecisionandaccuracythatareavailable fromGPS.

LowaccuracycorrectedGPS(SBAS)

Iflowaccuracysatellitepositionsareadequatefortherequiredsitework,youcanuseSatellite-Based AugmentationSystem(SBAS)errorcorrections.SBAScorrectedsystemsdonotrequireadditional siteinfrastructure.

Satellite-BasedAugmentationSystems(SBAS)arefree-to-airsatellitecorrectionservices.SBAS networksconsistofgroundstationsthataresetatknownpositionsaroundtheworld,and geostationarysatellitesthatmaintainafixedpositionabovetheearth.Thegroundstationsreceive satellitesignalsfromallsatellitesinview.Thesatellitedataisthensenttoamastercontrolsite, whichthentransmitssatellitecorrectionstothegeostationarysatellites.Thesesatellitesbroadcastthe informationtoallSBASenabledsatellitereceivers.

ThefollowingSBASnetworksarecurrentlyavailable:

WAAS-WideAreaAugmentationSystem(UnitedStates)

EGNOS-EuropeanGeostationaryNavigationOverlayService(Europe)

MSAS-Multi-FunctionalSatelliteAugmentationSystem(Japan)

Satelliteusesreceiverconfigurationfile(".cfg")toconvertfromWGS84coordinatestothesite coordinatesystem.Highaccuracy(RTK)satellitesystemsuseaconfigurationfilegeneratedfromthe sitecalibration.Inaccuraciesintheenteredpositionofthebasestationforthesitecalibrationwill resultinashiftofthesitecoordinatesystemawayfromthelocalcircuitcoordinatesystem.Whenthis configurationfileisusedbyasatellitereceiverusingRTK,theshiftisnotexposed.Astherelative positionsofpointsonthesitearestillaccuratelyknown,andtheaccuracyofRTKpositioningis

unaffected.However,ifthesameconfigurationfileisusedbyasatellitereceiverusingSBAS corrections,theshiftinthesitecoordinatesystemawayfromthelocalcircuitisexposed,andresults inadditionalpositioningerrors.

Toavoidadditionalerrors,dooneofthefollowing:

•MakesurethebasestationantennapositionusedfortheRTKsitecalibrationisaccurateto withinabout1m(3.3ft).Thisaccuracycanbeachievedviatraditionalsurveyingmethodsor longautonomoussatelliteoccupations.Speaktoyoursitesurveyorformoreinformation.

•UseaconfigurationfilegeneratedbytheCat®CompactionControlsoftwareusingthelocal circuitcoordinatesystem,insteadoftheconfigurationfileproducedbythesitecalibration.

GPSSiteCalibration

Note:AGPSsitecalibrationthatispoorinqualitywillresultinlowqualityguidanceinformation fromtheCat®CompactionControl.

Satellitesitecalibrationisamathematicalrelationshipbetweenagridcoordinatesystem(northing, easting,andelevation)ofaprojectandthesatellitecoordinatesystem(latitude,longitude,and ellipsoidalheight,alsoknownasWGS84coordinates).

Thisrelationshipisdeterminedbyusingsatellitetomeasurepointswithknowngridcoordinates,and thencalculatingthecalibrationparameters.

Asurveyingorcivilengineeringcompanyshouldbeusedtoestablishthecontrolpointsaroundasite. Makesurethatyoulocatethecontrolpointstopreventdestroyingthepointsduringconstruction. Fiveormorecontrolpointslocatedat,ornear,thecornersandcenteroftheprojectwillnormally givegoodresults.

Note:Ifyouemployasatellitesurveyortocreatethesatellitesitecalibration,makesurethatyou clearlyspecifytherequirements.Caterpillarrecommendsthatyougiveacopyofthissectionofthe manualtothesurveyor.

Somesurveysoftwarecandobothafullsitecalibrationandasinglepointcalibration.

Asinglepointcalibrationcannotprovideanyguaranteeofaccuracyastheparametersthatdefinea sitecalibrationwillbedefaultvaluesthatmayhavenoresemblancetotherealvaluesobtained throughafullcalibration.Asinglepointcalibrationshouldonlybeemployedonsmallsiteswithno existingcontrol.Caterpillarrecommendsthatyoucarryoutafullsitecalibrationtoguaranteethe requiredaccuracyalloverthesite.

Whendoingasitecalibration,payattentiontothefollowingpoints:

•Aminimumoffive3Dlocalgridcoordinates(north,east,elevation)andfiveobservedsatellite coordinates(latitude,longitude,height)toprovideenoughredundancy.

•Independentlyobtainasetofsatellitecoordinatesfromthesetofgridcoordinates.

•Theselectedcalibrationpointsshouldbearoundtheperimeterofthesite.Donotworkoutside oftheareaenclosedbythecalibrationpoints,asthecalibrationisnotvalidbeyondthis perimeter.

•Whendefiningtheacceptableaccuracylimits,thecalibrationtolerancesshouldnotbelarger thantheaccuracytoleranceforthesite.

•Whenmeasuringpoints,useabipodonastafforatripodtomaintainstability.

•Checktheaccuracyofthecalibrationbyvisitingothercontrolpointsthatwerenotusedinthe calibration.

ConvertingTheSiteCalibrationToAsatelliteConfigurationFile

Whenthesitecalibrationiscomplete,thesitesurveyorusesasurveyingsoftwarepackagetoconvert thesitecalibrationdatatoacalibrationfile,forexampleSite.dc.

Oncethesitecalibrationfileisgenerated,useCat®CompactionControlsoftwaretoconvertthe calibrationtoasatelliteconfigurationfilewhichcanthenbecopiedtotheUSBflashdrive.For informationonhowtoconvertthefiles,refertotheCat®CompactionControlhelpfile.

Thesitecalibrationfilesarestoredinthedisplayratherthanthesatellitereceiver.Forthisreason, eachtimeyouchangesite,makesurethatyouupdatethesitecalibrationfiles.

Toensurethatthecorrectfilesforeachdesignareinuse,dooneofthefollowing:

•Makesurethatthereisavalidconfiguration(".cfg")fileforthedesignineachdesignfolder. Whenyouloadthedesign,theassociatedconfigurationfileissenttothereceiver.

•Usethe"satellitereceiverconfiguration"iteminthesetupmenu.Thisreceiversendsthesite calibrationtothesatellitereceiverandupdatestheparametersthatareheldinthedisplay.

Whenasatellitereceiverconfiguration(".cfg")fileissenttoasatellitereceiver,thesystemresetsthe receivertofactorydefaultsbeforeapplyingnewsettings.

ControlLevelsandGuidanceInformation

TheCat®CompactionControlcanprovidethefollowinglevelsofguidance:

3DGuidance-3Dguidanceusesthe3Dlocationofthemachinetoprovidecuttingedgeguidance relativetoaninternal3Ddigitaldesign.3Dguidanceisusefulforconstructingcomplexdesigns,such ashighwaysandcurvedbanks.

Inaddition,eachlevelofguidancecanprovidedifferenttypesofguidanceinformation.TheCat® CompactionControlcanprovidethefollowingtypesofcuttingedgeguidanceinformation:

Lift-Maintainsaconstantelevation.

One-Point3D-One-point3Dguidancereportstheheightofthecuttingedgerelativetotheelevation ofadesignsurfacedirectlybelowasinglepointonthedrum,andthehorizontaloffsetofonetipof thedrumrelativetoadesignfeature.Theheightiscalculatedbyassumingthatthecuttingedgeisat rightanglestothedirectionoftravelofthemachine.
