TowingInformation

Personalinjuryordeathcouldresultwhentowingadisabledmachine incorrectly.

Blockthemachinetopreventmovementbeforereleasingthebrakes. Themachinecanrollfreeifitisnotblocked.

Followtherecommendationsbelow,toproperlyperformthetowing procedure.

Thesetowinginstructionsareformovingadisabledmachineashortdistance,onlyafewmeters(feet) atlowspeed,nofasterthan2km/h(1.2mph),toaconvenientlocationforrepair.Theseinstructions areforemergenciesonly.Alwayshaulthemachineiflongdistancemovingisrequired.

Shieldingmustbeprovidedonthetowingmachine,toprotecttheoperatorifthetowlineorbar shouldbreak.

Donotallowoperatoronthemachinebeingtowed,unlesstheoperatorcancontrolthesteeringand/or braking.

Beforetowing,makesurethetowlineorbarisingoodconditionandhasenoughstrengthforthe towingsituationinvolved.Useatowinglineorbarwithastrengthofatleast1.5timesthegross weightofthetowingmachine,foradisabledmachinestuckinmudorwhentowingonagrade.

Whentowing,attachthetowlineonlytothetoweyesontheframe,ifequipped.

Donotuseachainforpulling.Achainlinkcanbreakcausingpossiblepersonalinjury.Useawire ropecablewithlooporringends.Useanobserverinasafepositiontostopthepullingprocedureif thecablestartstobreakorunravel.Stoppullingwheneverthepullingmachinemoveswithoutmoving thetowedmachine.

Keepthetowlineangletoaminimum.Donotexceeda30°anglefromthestraightaheadposition.

Quickmachinemovementcouldoverloadthetowlineorbarandcauseittobreak.Gradualand smoothmachinemovementwillworkbetter.

Normally,thetowingmachineshouldbeaslargeasthedisabledmachine.Satisfyyourselfthatthe towingmachinehasenoughbrakecapacity,weightandpower,tocontrolbothmachinesforthegrade anddistanceinvolved.

Toprovidesufficientcontrolandbrakingwhenmovingadisabledmachinedownhill,alargertowing machineoradditionalmachinesconnectedtotherearcouldberequired.Thiswillpreventitfrom rollinguncontrolled.

Thedifferentsituationrequirementscannotbegiven,asminimaltowingmachinecapacityisrequired onsmoothlevelsurfacestomaximumoninclinesorpoorsurfaceconditions.

Anytowedmachine,whenloaded,mustbeequippedwithitsownbrakesystemoperablefromthe operator'scompartment.

ConsultyourCaterpillardealerfortowingadisabledmachine.

EngineRunning

Ifthepowertrainandthesteeringsystemareoperable,andtheengineisrunning,themachinecanbe towedaSHORTDISTANCE,pulledoutofmudortothesideoftheroad.

TheoperatoronthetowedmachineMUSTsteerinthedirectionofthetowline.

Makecertain,thatallinstructionsoutlinedinthistopic"TowingInformation"arecarefullyand exactlyfollowed.

EngineStopped

Performthefollowingstepsbeforetowingthemachinewiththeenginestopped.

1.Blockthedrumandreartiressecurelytopreventmachinemovement.

2.Releasetheparking/secondarybrake.

NOTICE

Releasetheparking/secondarybraketopreventexcessivewearand damagetotheparking/secondarybrakesystem,whentowingwithout brakeoilpressure.

Theprocedureformanualreleaseoftheparking/secondarybrakeis outlinedinthenexttopic,"ManualReleaseoftheparking/secondary Brake."

3.Attachthetowlinetothemachinetobetowed.

4.Removethedrumblocks.Towthemachineslowly.Donottowanyfasterthan2km/h(1.2mph).

Besureallnecessaryrepairsandadjustmentshavebeenmadebeforea machinethathasbeentowedtoaservicearea,isputbackinto operation.

ManualReleaseofParking/SecondaryBrake

1.Disconnectthehydraulichosesleadingtothedrumdrivemotoratthepropelpump.

2.Captheportsinthepropelpump.Connectthetwohosestogethertoformaclosedlooptothedrum drivemotor.BesurethepropelcontrolleverisintheSTOPposition.

3.Securethehosestothemainframe.

4.Repeatstepsonethroughthreefortheotherpropelmotor.

5.Disconnectthesteercylinderfromtheyokeandsecurethecylindertothemainframe.

NOTICE

Beforeoperatingthemachine,andaftertheparking/secondarybrake hasbeenserviced,dostepsonethroughsixinreverse.

NOTICE

Obeyallstateandlocallawsgoverningtheweight,widthandlengthof aload.

Observeallregulationsgoverningwideloads.

1.Blockthetrailerorrailcarwheelsbeforeloading(trailershown).

8.Blockthedrumfrontandrear.

9.Supportdrumyokeoneachsidewith100x150x350mm(4x6x14in)woodblocks.

10.Securethemachinewithtie-downswhentransportingonarailcaroratractor-trailer.

MachineRoading

Beforeroadingamachine,consultyourtiredealerforrecommendedtirepressuresandspeed limitations.

"TONkm/h"(TONMPH)limitationsmustbeobserved.Consultyourtiredealerforthespeedlimitof thetiresinvolved.

Whentravelinglongdistances,stopevery40km(25miles)or1hourfor30minutestoallowthetires andcomponentstocool.

Inflatethetirestothecorrectpressure.

Useaself-attachinginflationchuckandstandbehindthetiretreadwhileinflatingthetire.See"Tire InflationInformation."

Performa"Walk-AroundInspection"andmeasurethefluidlevelsinthevariouscompartments.

Checkwiththeproperofficialstoobtaintherequiredpermits,etc.

Travelatamoderatespeed.Observeallspeedlimitationswhenroadingthemachine.

NOTICE

Parkonalevelsurface.Ifitisnecessarytoparkonagrade,blockthe wheelssecurely.

Donotengagetheparking/secondarybrakewhilethemachineis movingunlessanemergencyexists.

1.Turnoffthevibratorysystembeforestoppingthemachine.

2.MovethepropellevertoSTOPtostopthemachine.

Ifcircumstancesrequireanunusuallyfaststoppingprocedure,movethepropellevertotheSTOP position.Pushdownontheparkingbrakeknobtoengagetheparkingbrake.

3.Engagetheparking/secondarybrake.Depressparking/secondaryknobtoengageparkingbrake.

1.Withthemachinestopped,runtheenginefortwominutesatlowidle.

4.Lowerthebladetotheground. EngineStopping

2.TurnthekeyswitchtoOFF.Removethekey. LeavingtheMachine

1.Usethestepsandhandholds,usebothhandsandfacethemachine,whendismounting.

2.Inspecttheenginecompartmentfordebris.Cleanoutanydebrisandpapertoavoidafire.

3.Removeallflammabledebrisfromfrontbottomguardthroughtheaccessdoorstoreducefire hazard.

4.Installallvandalismprotectionlocksandcovers.

OperatingLimitations

Thismachinehasbeendesignedtobeasuperiorcompactiontoolforjobconditionsnormally encounteredinawidevarietyofconstructionsites.However,themachinehasoperatinglimitations whichmustberecognizedinordertoassureoperationwithinthecapacityofthesystemsprovided.

Braking

ThismachinehasbeendesignedandtestedtomeetSAEbrakingrecommendations.Thismachinewill stopatadistanceof1.75m(5.7ft)whenrunatatopspeedof8.6km/h(5.33mph)usingthepropel leverinstoppositionforbraking.

NOTICE

Thistestrequirementismetonhard,level,drysurfaces.Operationon otherconditionssuchasonaslopeorloosematerialshouldbetaken intoaccountbyreductionofspeed.

TheCP/CS-323hasbeendesignedwithanarrowtrackforgoodtrench accessibilityandcompactionintightquarters.Thisresultsinamachine withoperatinglimitswhichmustbeobservedtopreventunexpected accidentsoraccidentalinjury.Suggestedlimitsareshownbelow.

Operatetheengineatfullrpmformaximumsteeringandpropel controlresponse.Operationbelowfullthrottlewillslowturningrateor propelsystemresponse.Personalinjuryordeathcanresult.

Whenclimbingsteepgrades,thepropellevermustbemovedSLOWLY toavoidenginestallandpossiblelossofmachinecontrol.

NOTICE

Releasesecondary/parkingbrakebeforeoperatingmachine.Failureto releasebeforeoperatingwilldamagethesecondary/parkingbrake.

Ifthelightintheparking/secondarybrakeknobdoesnotgooffwhen theknobispulledout,thebrakemaynotbereleased.Movethe steeringwheelslightlytoactivatethebrakevalveandifthelight remainsondonotoperatethemachine.

Donotoperatevibratorysystematlessthan1100vpm.

Avoidusingthelevelingbladeasaplowordiggingdevice.Machine damagemayoccur.

Startthevibrationonlyafterthemachinebeginstomove.Stopthevibrationbeforethemachinestops. Donotoperatevibratorysystemwhenthemachineisstopped.

Usevibrationcarefullyifthemachineisclosetobuildings.Itispossiblethatperiodsofvibration,in someconditions,cancausedamagetobuildings.

Whenthebestpossiblecompactionofthefillmaterialisreached,donotmakefurtherpassesusing vibration.Thefillmaterialwillbeloosened.Useacoresampleorotherapprovedmethodtomeasure thecorrectcompactiondensity.

MovethevibratoryswitchtoONtoactivatethevibratorysystem.

MovethevibratoryswitchtoOFFtoturnthevibratorysystemoff.

5.Pushthepropelleverforwardtotravelforward.Thefartherforwardthepropelleverismoved,the fasterthemachinewilltravel.

6.SlowlymovethepropellevertotheSTOPpositiontostopthemachine.

NOTICE

Toavoidpossiblemachinedamage,donotmovethepropelleverfrom onetraveldirectiontotheotherwithoutbringingthemachinetoa completestopfirst.

Shuttingofftheenginewillresultinlossofmachinesteering.Personal injuryordeathcanresult.

7.Drivethemachineforwardforbestvisibilityandcontrol.

NOTICE

Foroperatorcomfortandmaximumservicelifeofpowertrain components,decelerationand/orbrakingisrecommendedbeforeany directionalshiftsaremade.
