1.Opentheengineaccesscover.

2.Checkthehydraulicoillevelinsightgauge(1).Whentheoiliscold,theoillevelshouldbeto themiddleofsightgauge(1).Whentheoilishot,theoillevelshouldfillsightgauge(1).
NOTE:RefertotheLubricantViscositiesandRefillCapacitiessectionfortheproperamountof oiltodeterminethecorrectpositionforyourapplication.
3.Removehydraulicoiltankcap(2).
4.Addoil.
5.Cleanandinstallhydraulicoiltankcap(2).
6.Closetheaccesscover.

2.Removedrainplugandallowthewaterandsedimenttodrain.

1.ClosethewatersystemvalvebyturningtheT-handleclockwise.

3.Removethefilterbowlandusepressureairtocleanscreen.

6.Removethefillcapsandcleanthestrainers.
NOTE:Therearetwowatertankfillcaps;oneoneachsideoftheoperator'sseat.

Walk-AroundInspection
InspectMachine
NOTICE
Accumulatedgreaseandoilonamachineisafirehazard.Removethis debriswithsteamcleaningorhighpressurewater,atleastevery1000 hoursoranytimeasignificantquantityofoilisspilledonthemachine.
NOTE:Inspectcarefullyforleaks.Ifleakingisobserved,locatethesourceandcorrecttheleak. Checkfluidlevelsmorefrequentlythantherecommendedperiodsifleakingissuspectedor observed.
Inspectandreplacelights,brokenbulbsandlenses.
Inspectandremoveanytrashbuild-uparoundtheengine.
Inspectandrepairanyenginecomponentleaks.

Inspectstepsandhandholdsforconditionandcleanliness.InspecttheRolloverProtective Structure(ROPS)(ifequipped)fordamage.IfrepairisnecessarycontactyourCaterpillardealer. TightenanylooseROPSbolts.Repairorcleanifnecessary.
Inspectthehydraulicsystemforleaks.Inspectthetank,hoses,tubes,plugs,jointsandfittings. Correctanyleaks.
NOTICE
Wheneverinspectionormaintenanceworkisperformedonthe hydraulicsystem,allhydraulichosesandfittingsmustbechecked. Replacedamagedhosesimmediately.
Checkallhoses,fittingsandcomponentsforleaks.
Ifthemachineisequippedwithlights,turnonthelightswitch.Observethelightsandreplaceany thatarenotworking.
Besurecoversandguardsarefirmlyinplace.Inspectfordamage.
Inspectoperator'sstationforcleanlinessandremovealltrash.
Inspectandrepairtheinstrumentpanelgauges,controls,andswitcheswhennecessary.
Inspecttherubberisolationblocks,betweenthevibratorydrumandthemachineframefor damage,crackingorsplitting.ContactyourCaterpillardealerforthecompleteisolationblock replacementprocedure.

Startthemachineanddepressthehornbutton.Ifthehorndoesnotsoundmakeanynecessary repairsbeforeoperating.

Inspectoilfilterindicator.Servicefiltersbeforetherecommendedserviceintervaliftheindicators arenotinacceptablerange.RefertotheEvery500ServiceHoursor6MonthsinthisMaintenance Sectionformoredetailedinformation.
SeatBelt InspectForWearOrDamage

Replacetheseatbeltafterthreeyearsofusage,regardlessofappearance.
Seatbeltandmountinghardwaremustbeinspectedforwearordamagebeforeoperatingthe machine.Replacethebeltormountinghardwareifwornordamaged.

2.TurnthekeyswitchtotheONposition.
3.Allindicatorlightsshouldcomeonexceptthedirectionindicatorwhichcomesonifthe directionindicatorswitchisintheONposition.
4.Makeanyneededrepairsbeforeoperating.
Back-UpAlarm
CheckOperation
Theback-upalarmislocatedattherearofthemachine.

Whilethemachineisrunningmovethepropelcontrollevertoreverse.Iftheback-upalarmdoes notsoundmakeanyneededrepairsbeforeoperating.

Thesoundlevelcanbeadjustedbymovingtheadjustmentonbackofalarmtomeetoperating requirements.Thealarmissetatthehighestsoundlevelwhenshippedfromthefactory.The settingshouldremainonhigh,unlessthejobsiterequiresalowerlevel.
RefertoMonitoringSystemsandOperatorStationFeaturesSectionformoredetailsonadjusting theback-upalarmsoundlevel.
