TheoperatorEquivalentSoundPressureLevel(Leq)is72dB(A)when"ANSI/SAEJ1166 FEB2008"isusedtomeasurethevalueforanenclosedcab.Thisisaworkcyclesoundexposure level.Thecabwasproperlyinstalledandmaintained.Thetestwasconductedwiththecabdoors andthecabwindowsclosed.

Thedeclaredsoundlevelslistedaboveincludebothmeasurementuncertaintyanduncertaintydue toproductionvariation.

Hearingprotectionmaybeneededwhenthemachineisoperatedwithacabthatisnotproperly maintainedorwhenthedoorsorwindowsareopenforextendedperiodsorinanoisy environment.

Theaverageexteriorsoundpressurelevelis83dB(A)whenthe"SAEJ88FEB2006-Constant SpeedMovingTest"procedureisusedtomeasurethevalueforthestandardmachine.The measurementwasconductedunderthefollowingconditions:distanceof15m(49.2ft)and“the machinemovingforwardinanintermediategearratio”.

Itisnotpossibletogetprecisevibrationlevelsforthismachine.Theexpectedvibrationlevelscan beestimatedwiththeinformationinTable1tocalculatethedailyvibrationexposure.Asimple evaluationofthemachineapplicationcanbeused.

Estimatethevibrationlevelsforthethreevibrationdirections.Fortypicaloperatingconditions, usetheaveragevibrationlevelsastheestimatedlevel.Withanexperiencedoperatorandsmooth terrain,subtracttheScenarioFactorsfromtheaveragevibrationleveltoobtaintheestimated vibrationlevel.Foraggressiveoperationsandsevereterrain,addtheScenarioFactorstothe averagevibrationleveltoobtaintheestimatedvibrationlevel.

Thewholebodyvibrationlevelofthemachinevaries.Thereisarangeofvalues.Thelowvalueis 0.5meterpersecondsquared.Themachinemeetstheshort-termlevelforthedesignoftheseatin "ISO7096".Thevalueis1.13meterpersecondsquaredforthismachine.

Machinesthatareoperatingsafelyinvariousapplicationsdependonthesecriteria:themachine model,configuration,machinemaintenance,operatingspeedofthemachine,conditionsofthe terrain,fluidlevels,andtireinflationpressures.Themostimportantcriteriaaretheskilland judgmentoftheoperator.

AwelltrainedoperatorthatfollowstheinstructionsintheOperationandMaintenanceManualhas thegreatestimpactonstability.Operatortrainingprovidesapersonwiththefollowingabilities: observationofworkingandenvironmentalconditions,feelforthemachine,identificationof potentialhazardsandoperatingthemachinesafelybymakingappropriatedecisions.

Whenyouworkonsidehillsandwhenyouworkonslopes,considerthefollowingimportant points:

Speedoftravel-Athigherspeeds,forcesofinertiatendtomakethemachinelessstable.

Roughnessofterrainorsurface-Themachinemaybelessstablewithuneventerrain.

Directionoftravel-Avoidoperatingthemachineacrosstheslope.Whenpossible,operatethe machineuptheslopesandoperatethemachinedowntheslopes.Placetheheaviestendofthe machineuphillwhenyouareworkingonanincline.

Mountedequipment-Balanceofthemachinemaybeimpededbythefollowingcomponents: equipmentthatismountedonthemachine,machineconfiguration,weights,andcounterweights.

Natureofsurface-Groundthathasbeennewlyfilledwithearthmaycollapsefromtheweightof themachine.

Surfacematerial-Rocksandmoistureofthesurfacematerialmaydrasticallyaffectthe machine'stractionandmachine'sstability.Rockysurfacesmaypromotesideslippingofthe machine.

Slippageduetoexcessiveloads-Thismaycausedownhilltracksordownhilltirestodigintothe ground,whichwillincreasetheangleofthemachine.

Widthoftracksortires-Narrowertracksornarrowertiresfurtherincreasethediggingintothe groundwhichcausesthemachinetobelessstable.

Implementsattachedtothedrawbar-Thismaydecreasetheweightontheuphilltracks.This mayalsodecreasetheweightontheuphilltires.Thedecreasedweightwillcausethemachineto belessstable.

Heightoftheworkingloadofthemachine-Whentheworkingloadsareinhigherpositions,the stabilityofthemachineisreduced.

Operatedequipment-Beawareofperformancefeaturesoftheequipmentinoperationandthe effectsonmachinestability.

Operatingtechniques-Keepallattachmentsorpulledloadslowtothegroundforoptimum stability.

Machinesystemshavelimitationsonslopes-Slopescanaffecttheproperfunctionand operationofthevariousmachinesystems.Thesemachinesystemsareneededformachinecontrol.

EngineStopping

Donotstoptheengineimmediatelyafterthemachinehasbeenoperatedunderload.Stoppingthe engineimmediatelycancauseoverheatingandacceleratedwearofenginecomponents.

Afterthemachineisparkedandtheparkingbrakeisengaged,allowtheenginetorunatlowidle for5minutesbeforeshutdown.Runningtheengineallowshotareasoftheenginetocool gradually.

Operation

Onlyoperatethemachinewhileyouaresittinginaseat.Theseatbeltmustbefastenedwhileyou operatethemachine.Onlyoperatethecontrolswhiletheengineisrunning.

Whileyouoperatethemachineslowlyinanopenarea,checkforproperoperationofallcontrols andallprotectivedevices.

Beforeyoumovethemachine,makesurethatnoonewillbeendangered.

Donotallowridersonthemachineunlessthemachinehasanadditionalseatwithaseatbelt.The ridermustbeseatedandtheseatbeltmustbefastened.

Neverusetheworktoolforaworkplatform.

Noteanyneededrepairsduringmachineoperation.Reportanyneededrepairs.

Carryworktoolsatapproximately40cm(15inches)abovegroundlevel.

Donotgoclosetotheedgeofacliff,anexcavation,oranoverhang.

Avoidoperatingthemachineacrosstheslope.Whenpossible,operatethemachineuptheslopes anddowntheslopes.Ifthemachinebeginstosidesliponadowngrade,immediatelyremovethe loadandturnthemachinedownhill.

Avoidanyconditionsthatcanleadtotippingthemachine.Themachinecantipwhenyouworkon hills,onbanks,andonslopes.Also,themachinecantipwhenyoucrossditches,ridges,orother unexpectedobstructions.

Maintaincontrolofthemachine.Donotoverloadthemachinebeyondthemachinecapacity.

Neverstraddleawirecable.Neverallowotherpersonneltostraddleawirecable.

Knowthemaximumdimensionsofyourmachine.

AlwayskeeptheRolloverProtectiveStructure(ROPS)installedduringmachineoperation.

FuelingMachine

UltraLowSulfurDiesel(ULSD)posesagreaterstaticignitionhazard thanearlierdieselformulations,withahigherSulfurcontent,which mayresultinafireorexplosion.Consultwithyourfuelorfuelsystem supplierfordetailsonpropergroundingandbondingpractices.

Toavoidpossibleinjuryordeath,donotsmokewhileinanareathat containsflammableliquids.

Allfuels,mostlubricants,andsomecoolantsareflammable.

Keepallfuelsandlubricantsstoredinproperlymarkedcontainersand awayfromunauthorizedpersons.

Fuelleakedorspilledontohotsurfacesorelectricalcomponentscan causeafire.

Storealloilyragsorotherflammablematerialsinaprotectivecontainer inasafeplace.

Removeallflammablematerialssuchasfuel,oil,andotherdebris beforetheyaccumulateonthemachine.

Donotexposethemachinetoflames,burningbrush,etc.,ifatall possible.

Locatefuelfillonmachine,andremovethefuelcap.Whenfuelingthemachineiscomplete, replacethefuelcapandlockintoplace.

Fuelcapmaybehot.Toavoidinjury,usepersonalprotectiveequipment.Allowthecaptocool beforefuelingthemachine.

LimitingConditionsandCriteria

Limitingconditionsareimmediateissueswiththismachinethatmustbeaddressedpriorto continuingoperation.

TheOperationandMaintenanceManual,SafetySectiondescribeslimitingconditioncriteriafor replacingitemssuchassafetymessages,seatbeltandmountinghardware,lines,tubes,hoses, batterycablesandrelatedparts,electricalwires,andrepairinganyfluidleak.

TheOperationandMaintenanceManual,MaintenanceIntervalScheduledescribeslimiting conditioncriteriathatrequirerepairorreplacementforitems(ifequipped)suchasalarms,horns, brakingsystem,steeringsystem,androlloverprotectivestructures.

TheOperationandMaintenanceManual,MonitoringSystem(ifequipped)providesinformation onlimitingconditioncriteria,includingaWarningCategory3thatrequiresimmediateshutdown oftheengine.

Yourmachinemaybeequippedwithvisualaids.SomeexamplesofvisualaidsareClosedCircuit Television(CCTV)andmirrors.Beforeoperatingthemachine,ensurethatthevisualaidsarein properworkingconditionandthatthevisualaidsareclean.Adjustthevisualaidsusingthe proceduresthatarelocatedinthisOperationandMaintenanceManual.Ifequipped,theWork AreaVisionSystemshallbeadjustedaccordingtoOperationandMaintenanceManual, SEBU8157,"WorkAreaVisionSystem".Ifequipped,theCatDetectObjectDetectionshallbe adjustedaccordingtotheOperationandMaintenanceManual,"CatDetectObjectDetection"for yourmachine.

Thesteeringframelockmustbeintheunlockedpositioninordertosteerthemachine.

Starttheengineonlyfromtheoperatorcompartment.Nevershortacrossthestarterterminalsor acrossthebatteries.Shortingcouldbypasstheengineneutralstartsystem.Shortingcouldalso damagetheelectricalsystem.

Inspecttheconditionoftheseatbeltandtheconditionofmountinghardware.Replaceanyparts thatarewornordamaged.Regardlessoftheappearance,replacetheseatbeltafterthreeyearsof use.Donotuseaseatbeltextensiononaretractableseatbelt.

Adjusttheseatsothatthereisfullpedaltravelwhiletheoperator'sbackisagainstthebackofthe seat.

Makesurethatthemachineisequippedwithalightingsystemthatisadequateforthejob conditions.Makesurethatalllightsareworkingproperly.

Beforeyoustarttheengineorbeforeyoumovethemachine,makesurethatnooneisonthe machine,underneaththemachine,oraroundthemachine.Makesurethattherearenopersonnelin thearea.

Explosionsofairinflatedtireshaveresultedfromheat-inducedgascombustioninsidethetires. Explosionscanbecausedbyheatthatisgeneratedbywelding,byheatingrimcomponents,by externalfire,orbyexcessiveuseofbrakes.

Atireexplosionismuchmoreviolentthanablowout.Theexplosioncanpropelthetire,therim components,andtheaxlecomponentsfromthemachine.Stayoutofthetrajectorypath.Boththe forceoftheexplosionandtheflyingdebriscancausepropertydamage,personalinjury,ordeath.

Donotapproachahotoranapparentlydamagedtire.

Caterpillarrecommendsagainstusingwaterorcalciumasaballastforthetiresexceptinmachines designedforthisadditionalmass.Forthoseapplicablemachines,themaintenancesectionwill containinstructionsonthecorrecttireinflationandfillingprocedures.Ballast,suchasfluidinthe tires,increasesoverallmachineweightandmayaffectbraking,steering,powertraincomponents, orthecertificationoftheprotectivestructuresuchastheROPS.Theuseoftire/rimrust preventativesorotherliquidadditivesisnotrequired.

Propernitrogeninflationequipment,andtraininginusingthe equipment,arenecessarytoavoidoverinflation.Atireblowoutorrim failurecanresultfromimproperormisusedequipmentandpersonal injuryordeathcanoccur.

Atireblowoutand/orrimfailurecanoccuriftheinflationequipmentis notusedcorrectly,duetothefactthatafullychargednitrogen cylinder'spressureisapproximately15000kPa(2200psi).

Drynitrogengasisrecommendedforinflationoftires.Ifthetireswereoriginallyinflatedwithair, nitrogenisstillpreferredforadjustingthepressure.Nitrogenmixesproperlywithair.

Nitrogeninflatedtiresreducethepotentialofatireexplosionbecausenitrogendoesnotaid combustion.Nitrogenhelpstopreventoxidationoftherubber,deteriorationofrubber,and corrosionofrimcomponents.

Toavoidoverinflation,propernitrogeninflationequipmentandtrainingintheusageofthe equipmentarenecessary.Atireblowoutorarimfailurecanresultfromimproperequipmentor frommisusedequipment.

Whenyouinflateatire,standbehindthetreadanduseaself-attachingchuck.

Servicingtiresandrimscanbedangerous.Onlytrainedpersonnelthatusepropertoolsandproper proceduresshouldperformthismaintenance.Ifcorrectproceduresarenotusedforservicingtires andrims,theassembliescouldburstwithexplosiveforce.Thisexplosiveforcecancauseserious personalinjuryordeath.Carefullyobeythespecificinstructionsfromyourtiredealer.
