Glycol

NOTICE

Forambienttemperaturesrequiringlowerfreezeprotection (higherthan50percentglycol),useethyleneglycol.DONOT usepropyleneglycol.

Mostcommercialenginecoolant/antifreezesareformulatedfor gasolineengineapplicationsandhavehighsilicatecontent.

NOTE:

Highsilicatesarecondusivetocylinderlinercavitationand corrosion.CaterpillarDOESNOTrecommendhighsilicant coolant/antifreezes.

NOTICE

Neveroperatewithoutthermostatsinthecoolingsystem. Thermostatsmaintaintheenginecoolantattheproper operatingtemperature.Coolingsystemproblemscanarise withoutthermostats.

NOTICE

Neveraddcoolanttoanoverheatedengine.Allowtheengineto coolfirst.Donotaddcoolanttooquickly.Fillingthecooling systematover19L(5USgal)perminutecancreateairpockets inthecoolingsystem.Enginedamagecanresult.

ExtendedLifeCoolantCoolingSystemMaintenance

NOTICE

UseonlyCaterpillarproductsorcommercialproductsthathave passedCaterpillar'sEC-1specificationforpremixedor concentratedcoolants.

UseonlyCaterpillarExtenderwithExtendedLifeCoolant.

MixingExtendedLifeCoolantwithotherproductsreducesthe ExtendedLifeCoolantservicelife.Failuretofollowthe recommendationsincludedinthissectioncanreducecooling systemcomponentlife.

NOTICE

Donotuseconventionalcoolanttotopoffacoolingsystem usingExtendedLifeCoolant.

Donotusesupplementalcoolantadditivesotherthanextender incoolingsystemsfilledwithExtendedLifeCoolant.

AcceptableAntifreeze/Coolant

SupplementalCoolantAdditive

Supplementalcoolingsystemadditivecontainsalkali.To preventpersonalinjury,donotdrink,avoidcontactwiththeskin andeyes.

NOTICE

ThecoolingsystemMUSTcontainsupplementalcoolant additiveforproperengineprotection,regardlessofantifreeze concentration.

NOTICE

DONOTmixCaterpillar'ssupplementalcoolantadditiveor coolantadditiveelementswithanothermanufacturer's products.Selectacoolingsystemtreatmentanduseit exclusively.

NOTICE

Donotexceedtherecommendedsixpercentsupplemental coolantadditiveconcentration.Excessivesupplemental coolantadditiveconcentrationcanformdepositsonthehigher temperaturesurfacesofthecoolingsystem,reducingthe engine'sheattransfercharacteristics.Reducedheattransfer couldcausecrackingofthecylinderheadandotherhigh temperaturecomponents.Excessivesupplementalcoolant additiveconcentrationcouldalsoresultinradiatortube blockage,overheating,and/oracceleratedwaterpumpseal wear.Neverusebothliquidsupplementalcoolantadditiveand thespin-onelement(ifequipped)atthesametime.Theuseof thoseadditivestogethercouldresultinsupplementalcoolant additiveconcentrationexceedingtherecommendedsixpercent maximum.

NOTE:

NOTICE

Neverusewateralonewithoutsupplementalcoolantadditiveor inhibitedcoolant.Wateraloneiscorrosiveatengineoperating temperatures.

NOTICE

Amixtureofwaterandsupplementalcoolantadditivedoesnot protectagainstfreezingorboiling.

NOTICE

Acoolantmixtureofwaterandsupplementalcoolantadditive willcoolandprovidesomeprotectiontoenginecomponents, butitwillNOTprovidenormalengineservicelife.

NOTICE

Caterpillar'srecommendationforpropercoolantisaminimum concentrationof30percentglycoland70percentacceptable waterandsupplementalcoolantadditive(threepercentofthe totalmixture).Thisrecommendationwillmaintaincooling systemcorrosionprotection.

ConventionalCoolingSystemMaintenance

NOTICE

Topreventover-inhibitingtheengine'scoolingsystem,donot usebothsupplementalcoolantadditiveliquidanda supplementalcoolantadditiveelement(ifequipped)atthe sametime.Useonemethodexclusively.
