MaintenanceIntervals

Calendarintervalsshown(daily,weekly,monthly,etc)canbeusedinsteadofservicehourmeter intervalsiftheyprovidemoreconvenientservicingschedulesandapproximatetheindicated servicehourmeterreading.Recommendedserviceshouldalwaysbeperformedattheintervalthat occursfirst.

Underextremelysevere,dustyorwetoperatingconditions,morefrequentlubricationthanis specifiedinthemaintenanceintervalsschedulemightbenecessary.

Performserviceonitemsatmultiplesoftheoriginalrequirement.Forexample,atevery500 servicehoursor3months,alsoservicethoseitemslistedunderevery250servicehoursor monthlyandevery10servicehoursordaily.

MaintenanceIntervalSchedule

Ensurethatallsafetyinformation,warnings,andinstructionsarereadandunderstoodbeforeany operationoranymaintenanceproceduresareperformed.

Theuserisresponsiblefortheperformanceofmaintenance,includingalladjustments,theuseof properlubricants,fluids,filters,andthereplacementofcomponentsduetonormalwearandaging. Failuretoadheretopropermaintenanceintervalsandproceduresmayresultindiminished performanceoftheproductand/oracceleratedwearofcomponents.

Usemileage,fuelconsumption,servicehours,orcalendartime,WHICHEVEROCCURSFIRST, inordertodeterminethemaintenanceintervals.Productsthatoperateinsevereoperating conditionsmayrequiremorefrequentmaintenance.

Note:Beforeeachconsecutiveintervalisperformed,allmaintenancefromthepreviousinterval mustbeperformed.

InspectionoftheForkTines

Checktheforktinesdailyforanytwistingorbendingoftheforktines.Ifanytwistingorbendingis observed,theforktinesshouldbechangedpriortoanyliftingoperation.Iftheforktinesare damaged,consultyourCatdealer.

Checktheforktinesforwearorfordamage.Inspectthewelds,thelocks,theshafts,andthefork tinesfordamage.Ifthecomponentsaredamaged,consultyourCatdealer.Referto,"Daily Inspection"foradditionalinformation.

BladeThickness

1.Measurethethicknessoftheshank.Ensurethatthemeasuringdeviceisheldsquareacrossthe shankinordertoacquireanaccuratemeasurement.

2.Measurethebladeoftheforktineneartheheel.Ensurethatthemeasuringdeviceisheld squareacrossthebladeinordertoacquireanaccuratemeasurement.

3.Comparethemeasurementofthebladeandthemeasurementoftheshank.

4.Ifthedifferenceinmeasurementsislessthan10%,theforktinecanremaininservice.

5.Ifthedifferenceinmeasurementsisgreaterthan10%,theforktinemustbetakenoutof service.Forktinewearthatisgreaterthan10%,representsa20%reductioninthecapacityof theforktine.

ConsultyourCatdealerforadditionalinformation.

AngleoftheHeel

1.Placeameasuringdeviceinthetopinsideareaoftheheelontopoftheblade.Ensurethatthe measuringdeviceisheldflatagainstthebladeinordertoacquireanaccuratemeasurement. Illustration7g01600076

2.Movetheupperarmofthemeasuringdevicetowardthefaceoftheshank.Ensurethatthe measuringdeviceisheldflatagainstthefaceoftheshankinordertoacquireanaccurate measurement.

3.Checktheanglethatwasmeasuredwiththedevicefortheangleoftheheel.

4.Iftheangleisbetween87degreesand93degrees,theforktinecanremaininservice.

5.Iftheangleislessthan87degreesorgreaterthan93degrees,theforktinemustbetakenoutof service.Theforktinesmustbeinspectedforthefollowingconditions: permanentdeformation stresscracks otherdefects

WeldingonMachinesandEngineswithElectronicControls

Properweldingproceduresarenecessaryinordertoavoiddamagetotheelectroniccontrolsandto thebearings.Thefollowingstepsshouldbefollowedinordertoweldonamachineoranengine withelectroniccontrols.

Note:Ifyouareweldingonaworktool,removetheworktoolfromthehostmachinebefore welding.

1.Turnofftheengine.

2.TurnthebatterydisconnectswitchtotheOFFposition.Ifthereisnobatterydisconnect switch,removethenegativebatterycableatthebattery.

3.Clampthegroundcablefromtheweldertothecomponentthatwillbewelded.Placethe clampascloseaspossibletotheweld.Makesurethattheelectricalpathfromtheground cabletothecomponentdoesnotgothroughanybearing.Usethisprocedureinorderto reducethepossibilityofdamagetothefollowingcomponents:

Bearingsofthedrivetrain

Hydrauliccomponents

Electricalcomponents

Othercomponentsofthemachine

DoNOTuseelectricalcomponents(ECMorsensors)orelectronic componentgroundingpointsforgroundingthewelder.

4.Protectanywiringharnessesfromthedebriswhichiscreatedfromwelding.Protectany wiringharnessesfromthesplatterwhichiscreatedfromwelding.

5.Usestandardweldingproceduresinordertoweldthematerialstogether.

DailyInspection

SMCS-6700

Personalinjuryordeathcanresultfromimproperlycheckingforaleak.

Alwaysuseaboardorcardboardwhencheckingforaleak.Escaping airorfluidunderpressure,evenapin-holesizeleak,canpenetratebody tissuecausingseriousinjury,andpossibledeath.

Iffluidisinjectedintoyourskin,itmustbetreatedimmediatelybya doctorfamiliarwiththistypeofinjury.

NOTICE

Accumulatedgreaseandoilonaworktoolisafirehazard.

Removedebriswithsteamcleaningorhighpressurewateratanytime asignificantquantityofoilisspilledontheworktool.

Note:Theworktoolshouldberemovedfromthequickcouplerduringthedailyinspection oftheworktool.Uncouplingtheworktooldailyhelpstopreventthecouplerwedgesfrom sticking.

Forthemaximumservicelifeoftheworktool,makeathoroughwalk-aroundinspectionbefore youmountthemachineandbeforeyoustarttheengine.

Positiontheworktoolonalevelsurface.Uncoupletheworktoolfromthequickcoupler.Referto OperationandMaintenanceManual,"Operation-UncouplingtheWorkTool".

Lowerthequickcouplertothegroundinfrontofthemachine.Stoptheengineonthehost machine.Removetheenginestartswitchkeybeforeexitingthemachine.RefertotheOperation andMaintenanceManualofthehostmachineforadditionalinformation.

Cleananydebrisfromtheforks.

Cleananydebrisfromthecarriageassembly.

Inspecttheworktoolforthefollowingconditions:loosebolts,brokenparts,missingpartsand wornparts.

Checkthecarriageassemblyandtheforktinesforwearorfordamage.Inspectthewelds,the locks,theshafts,andtheforktinesfordamage.Ifthecomponentsaredamaged,consultyour Caterpillardealer.

Checktheforktinesdailyforanytwistingorbendingoftheforktines.Ifanytwistingorbending isobserved,theforktinesshouldbechangedpriortoanyliftingoperation.Iftheforktinesare damaged,consultyourCaterpillardealer.

Ifthepalletforksarenotoperatedforlongperiods,thepalletforksmustbelubricated.Referto OperationandMaintenanceManual,"PalletFork-Lubricate"forinformationonlubricatingthe palletforks.

Performallrepairsbeforetheworktoolisputintoservice.

Checkthesafetymessages.Replacethesafetymessageswhenthesafetymessagesaredamaged. Replacethesafetymessageswhenyoucannotreadthesafetymessages.Replacethesafety messageswhenthesafetymessagesaremissing.

Coupletheworktooltothequickcoupler.RefertoOperationandMaintenanceManual, "Operation-CouplingtheWorkTool".Aftertheworktooliscoupled,ensurethatthecoupler wedgesarefullyengagedintotheworktool.

Note:Whenyouoperatethepalletforks,theforktinesmustbeproperlyseatedonthe carriage.Theforktinelocksmustbeinplaceatalltimes.Theforktinelocksmustbeinthe lockpositionatalltimes.

Note:Youmustensurethattheworktooliscompatiblewiththehostmachine.Consultany CaterpillardealerforinformationonmatchingtheWorkTooltothehostmachine.

LoadingtheFork

1.Positiontheforkinthecenteroftheload.

2.Movethehostmachineforwardintopositionandengagetheload.Thehostmachineshould besquarewiththeload.Spacetheforktinesevenlyundertheload.

3.Movethehostmachineforwarduntiltheloadtouchesthecarriage.

4.Tilttheforktinesupwardinordertoholdtheloadagainstthefork.

5.Carefullylifttheload.

6.Operatethehostmachineinreverseuntiltheloadisclear.

7.Carefullylowertheload.

1.Lowertheloadintothetravelposition.Forthebestoperatorvision,carrytheloadcloseto theground.

2.Travelwiththeloaduphillonupgrades.Travelwiththeloaduphillondowngrades.For bettervision,travelinreversewithbulkyloads.

UnloadingtheFork

1.Positiontheloadovertheareainordertounloadtheload.

2.Lowertheloadtotheground.

3.Tilttheforksdownwarduntiltheloadislevel.Lowertheloadintoposition.

Note:Youmustmakesurethattheloadisstablebeforeyoumovethehostmachine.

4.Slowlyoperatethehostmachineinreverseuntiltheforksareclearoftheload.

LiftingObjects

RefertotheloadchartsintheOperationandMaintenanceManualofthehostmachine.Usethe loadchartsandaccountforthemassoftheworktool.Calculatetheloadcapacityofyourspecific hostmachineandtheworktool.

Placetheforkinasafepositionbeforeengagingordisengagingthe quickcoupler.Ensurethattheforkisnotcarryingaload.

Inspectthequickcouplerengagementbeforeoperatingthemachine.

Seriousinjuryordeathmayresultfromimproperlyengagedcoupler.

1.Positiontheforkonalevelsurface.Useanappropriatelevelinordertoensurethatthefork tinesarelevel.

2.MovethequickcouplerswitchtotheUnlockorDisengageposition. Ifthecoupleriscontrolledbythe3rdAuxiliaryHydraulicControlLever,movethecontrol backtotheUnlockorDisengageposition.RefertotheOperationandMaintenanceManual ofthehostmachineforadditionalinformationoncontrols.

3.Tiltthecouplerforward.Ensurethatthecouplerisbelowthehooksonthefork.Referto illustration1.

4.SlowlydrivethemachineFORWARD.Centerthecouplerbetweenthehooksonthefork.

5.Raisethecoupleruntilthecouplercomesincontactwiththehooksonthefork.Continueto slowlyraisethecoupleruntiltheforkbeginstolift.Ensurethattheforkhasremainedlevel. Refertoillustration2.

7.MovethequickcouplerswitchtotheLockorEngageposition.
