MaintenanceIntervals

Calendarintervalsshown(daily,weekly,monthly,etc)canbeusedinsteadofservicehourmeterintervalsif theyprovidemoreconvenientservicingschedulesandapproximatetheindicatedservicehourmeterreading. Recommendedserviceshouldalwaysbeperformedattheintervalthatoccursfirst.

Underextremelysevere,dustyorwetoperatingconditions,morefrequentlubricationthanisspecifiedinthe maintenanceintervalsschedulemightbenecessary.

Performserviceonitemsatmultiplesoftheoriginalrequirement.Forexample,atevery500servicehoursor 3months,alsoservicethoseitemslistedunderevery250servicehoursormonthlyandevery10service hoursordaily.

Checktheforktinesdailyforanytwistingorbendingoftheforktines.Ifanytwistingorbendingis observed,theforktinesshouldbechangedpriortoanyliftingoperation.Iftheforktinesaredamaged, consultyourCatdealer.

Checktheforktinesforwearorfordamage.Inspectthewelds,thelocks,theshafts,andtheforktinesfor damage.Ifthecomponentsaredamaged,consultyourCatdealer.Referto,"DailyInspection"foradditional information.

BladeThickness

1.Measurethethicknessoftheshank.Ensurethatthemeasuringdeviceisheldsquareacrosstheshankin ordertoacquireanaccuratemeasurement.

2.Measurethebladeoftheforktineneartheheel.Ensurethatthemeasuringdeviceisheldsquareacross thebladeinordertoacquireanaccuratemeasurement.

3.Comparethemeasurementofthebladeandthemeasurementoftheshank.

4.Ifthedifferenceinmeasurementsislessthan10%,theforktinecanremaininservice.

5.Ifthedifferenceinmeasurementsisgreaterthan10%,theforktinemustbetakenoutofservice.Fork tinewearthatisgreaterthan10%,representsa20%reductioninthecapacityoftheforktine.

2.Movetheupperarmofthemeasuringdevicetowardthefaceoftheshank.Ensurethatthemeasuring deviceisheldflatagainstthefaceoftheshankinordertoacquireanaccuratemeasurement.

3.Checktheanglethatwasmeasuredwiththedevicefortheangleoftheheel.

4.Iftheangleisbetween87degreesand93degrees,theforktinecanremaininservice.

5.Iftheangleislessthan87degreesorgreaterthan93degrees,theforktinemustbetakenoutof service.Theforktinesmustbeinspectedforthefollowingconditions: permanentdeformation stresscracks otherdefects

WeldingonMachinesandEngineswithElectronicControls

Properweldingproceduresarenecessaryinordertoavoiddamagetotheelectroniccontrolsandtothe bearings.Thefollowingstepsshouldbefollowedinordertoweldonamachineoranenginewithelectronic controls.

Note:Ifyouareweldingonaworktool,removetheworktoolfromthehostmachinebeforewelding.

1.Turnofftheengine.

2.TurnthebatterydisconnectswitchtotheOFFposition.Ifthereisnobatterydisconnectswitch,remove thenegativebatterycableatthebattery.

3.Clampthegroundcablefromtheweldertothecomponentthatwillbewelded.Placetheclampas closeaspossibletotheweld.Makesurethattheelectricalpathfromthegroundcabletothe componentdoesnotgothroughanybearing.Usethisprocedureinordertoreducethepossibilityof damagetothefollowingcomponents:

Bearingsofthedrivetrain

Hydrauliccomponents

Electricalcomponents

Othercomponentsofthemachine

DoNOTuseelectricalcomponents(ECMorECMsensors)or electroniccomponentgroundingpointsforgroundingthewelder.

4.Protectanywiringharnessesfromthedebriswhichiscreatedfromwelding.Protectanywiring harnessesfromthesplatterwhichiscreatedfromwelding.

DailyInspection

SMCS-6700

Personalinjuryordeathcanresultfromimproperlycheckingfora leak.

Alwaysuseaboardorcardboardwhencheckingforaleak.Escaping airorfluidunderpressure,evenapin-holesizeleak,canpenetrate bodytissuecausingseriousinjury,andpossibledeath.

Iffluidisinjectedintoyourskin,itmustbetreatedimmediatelybya doctorfamiliarwiththistypeofinjury.

NOTICE

Accumulatedgreaseandoilonaworktoolisafirehazard.

Removedebriswithsteamcleaningorhighpressurewateratanytime asignificantquantityofoilisspilledontheworktool.

Note:Theworktoolshouldberemovedfromthequickcouplerduringthedailyinspectionofthework tool.Uncouplingtheworktooldailyhelpstopreventthecouplerwedgesfromsticking.

Forthemaximumservicelifeoftheworktool,makeathoroughwalk-aroundinspectionbeforeyoumount themachineandbeforeyoustarttheengine.

Positiontheworktoolonalevelsurface.Uncoupletheworktoolfromthequickcoupler.RefertoOperation andMaintenanceManual,"Operation-UncouplingtheWorkTool".

Lowerthequickcouplertothegroundinfrontofthemachine.Stoptheengineonthehostmachine.Remove theenginestartswitchkeybeforeexitingthemachine.RefertotheOperationandMaintenanceManualof thehostmachineforadditionalinformation.

Cleananydebrisfromtheforks.

Cleananydebrisfromthecarriageassembly.

Inspecttheworktoolforthefollowingconditions:loosebolts,brokenparts,missingpartsandwornparts.

Checkthecarriageassemblyandtheforktinesforwearorfordamage.Inspectthewelds,thelocks,the shafts,andtheforktinesfordamage.Ifthecomponentsaredamaged,consultyourCaterpillardealer.

Checktheforktinesdailyforanytwistingorbendingoftheforktines.Ifanytwistingorbendingis observed,theforktinesshouldbechangedpriortoanyliftingoperation.Iftheforktinesaredamaged, consultyourCaterpillardealer.

Ifthepalletforksarenotoperatedforlongperiods,thepalletforksmustbelubricated.RefertoOperation andMaintenanceManual,"PalletFork-Lubricate"forinformationonlubricatingthepalletforks.

Performallrepairsbeforetheworktoolisputintoservice.

Checkthesafetymessages.Replacethesafetymessageswhenthesafetymessagesaredamaged.Replacethe safetymessageswhenyoucannotreadthesafetymessages.Replacethesafetymessageswhenthesafety messagesaremissing.

Coupletheworktooltothequickcoupler.RefertoOperationandMaintenanceManual,"OperationCouplingtheWorkTool".Aftertheworktooliscoupled,ensurethatthecouplerwedgesarefullyengaged intotheworktool.

LoadingtheFork

1.Positiontheforkinthecenteroftheload.

2.Movethehostmachineforwardintopositionandengagetheload.Thehostmachineshouldbesquare withtheload.Spacetheforktinesevenlyundertheload.

3.Movethehostmachineforwarduntiltheloadtouchesthecarriage.

4.Tilttheforktinesupwardinordertoholdtheloadagainstthefork.

5.Carefullylifttheload.

6.Operatethehostmachineinreverseuntiltheloadisclear.

TravelwithaLoad

1.Lowertheloadintothetravelposition.Forthebestoperatorvision,carrytheloadclosetotheground.

2.Travelwiththeloaduphillonupgrades.Travelwiththeloaduphillondowngrades.Forbettervision, travelinreversewithbulkyloads.

UnloadingtheFork

1.Positiontheloadovertheareainordertounloadtheload.

2.Lowertheloadtotheground.

1.Positiontheforkonalevelsurface.Useanappropriatelevelinordertoensurethattheforktinesare level.

2.MovethequickcouplerswitchtotheUnlockorDisengageposition.

Ifthecoupleriscontrolledbythe3rdAuxiliaryHydraulicControlLever,movethecontrolbacktothe UnlockorDisengageposition.RefertotheOperationandMaintenanceManualofthehostmachinefor additionalinformationoncontrols.

8.Visuallyinspectthequickcouplerinordertoensurethatthecouplerwedges(5)arefullyextended throughthecorrespondingholes(5A)inthepalletfork.Refertoillustration4.

9.Alsousethefollowingproceduretoverifyengagementofthecouplerwedges.

a.Enterthemachine.

b.Fastentheseatbeltandlowerthearmrests.

c.Starttheengine.

d.Disengagetheparkingbrake.

e.Raisetheforkandfullydumpthefork.

f.Shaketheforkupanddownwiththetiltcylindersinordertoverifyengagementofthecoupler wedges.

Donotapplydownwardpressureontheforktines.Donotprywiththe forktines.Donotsideloadtheforktines.Prematurefailureofthefork tinesmayoccurandcauseacrushhazard.Personalinjuryordeath mayoccur.

UncouplingtheWorkTool

Placetheforkinasafepositionbeforeengagingordisengagingthe quickcoupler.Ensurethattheforkisnotcarryingaload.

Seriousinjuryordeathmayresultfromengagingordisengagingthe forkwhenitisinanunstablepositionorcarryingaload.

Palletforkmayswingawayfromthecouplerasthewedgesarereleased andthecoupleristiltedorlowered.Couldcauseseriousinjuryor death.Keepallpersonnelawayfromthepalletforkwhenuncoupling thepalletfork.

1.Positiontheforkonalevelsurface.Useanappropriatelevelinordertoensurethattheforktinesare level.

2.MovethequickcouplerswitchtotheUnlockorDisengageposition.

Ifthecoupleriscontrolledbythe3rdAuxiliaryHydraulicControlLever,movethecontrolbacktothe UnlockorDisengageposition.
