ThisequipmentisequippedwithaCat®ProductLinkcommunication device.Whenelectricdetonatorsarebeingusedforblastingoperations, radiofrequencydevicescancauseinterferencewithelectricdetonators forblastingoperationswhichcanresultinseriousinjuryordeath.The ProductLinkcommunicationdeviceshouldbedeactivatedwithinthe distancemandatedunderallapplicablenationalorlocalregulatory requirements.Intheabsenceofanyregulatoryrequirements Caterpillarrecommendstheenduserperformtheirownriskassessment todeterminesafeoperatingdistance.

•WhiletheblastsiteswitchisintheOFFposition,thePL121orthePL522/PL523systemwill nolongertrackServiceMeterUnit(SMU)hoursorVIMSdata.AServiceMeterHours(SMH) adjustmentwillberequiredafterpowerisrestoredtotheProductLinksystem.Consultyour Caterpillardealerifthereareanyquestions.

•DisconnectthePL121orthePL522/PL523systemmodulefromthemainpowersource.This actionisperformedbydisconnectingthewiringharnessattheProductLinkmodule.

MaintenanceIntervals

Recommendedserviceshouldalwaysbeperformedattheintervalthatoccursfirst.

Underextremelysevere,dusty,orwetoperatingconditions,morefrequentlubricationthanis specifiedintheMaintenanceIntervalschartmightbenecessary.

Performserviceonitemsatmultiplesoftheoriginalrequirement.Forexample,atEvery500 ServiceHoursor3Months,alsoservicethoseitemslistedunderEvery250ServiceHoursor MonthlyandEvery10ServiceHoursorDaily.

Knowthewidthofyourattachmentssoproperclearancecanbemaintainedwhenoperatingnear fences,boundaryobstacles,etc.

Wearahardhat,protectiveglasses,andotherprotectiveequipmentasrequiredbyjobconditions.

Donotwearlooseclothingorjewelrythatcancatchoncontrolsorotherpartsofthemachine.

Makecertainallprotectiveguardsandcoversaresecuredinplaceonthemachine.

Keepthemachine,especiallythedeck,walkwaysandsteps,freeofforeignmaterial,suchas debris,oil,toolsandotheritemswhicharenotpartofthemachine.

Securealllooseitemssuchaslunchboxes,tools,andotherobjectswhicharenotpartofthe machine.

Knowtheappropriatework-sitehandsignalsandwhogivesthem.Acceptsignalsfromoneperson only.

Inhalingairconditionerrefrigerantgasthroughalitcigaretteorothersmokingmethodorinhaling fumesreleasedfromaflamecontactingairconditionerrefrigerantgas,cancausebodilyharmor death.Donotsmokewhenservicingairconditionersorwhereverrefrigerantgasmaybepresent.

Neverputmaintenancefluidsintoglasscontainers.

PressureAir

Pressureaircancausepersonalinjury.Whenusingpressureairforcleaning,wearaprotective faceshield,protectiveclothing,andprotectiveshoes.

Themaximumairpressuremustbebelow205kPa(30psi)forcleaningpurposes.

FluidPenetration

Personalinjuryordeathcanresultfromimproperlycheckingforaleak.Alwaysuseaboardor cardboardwhencheckingforaleak.Escapingfluidunderpressure,evenapin-holesizeleak,can penetratebodytissue,causingseriousinjury,andpossibledeath.Iffluidisinjectedintoyourskin, itmustbetreatedbyadoctorfamiliarwiththistypeofinjuryimmediately.

AsbestosInformation

CaterpillarproductsandreplacementpartsareshippedfromCaterpillarasbestosfree.Caterpillar recommendstheuseofonlygenuineCaterpillarreplacementparts.Ifanyreplacementparts containingasbestosareused,thefollowingguidelinesshouldbeusedinhandlingthesepartsand asbestosdebris.

Cautionshouldbeusedtoavoidbreathingdustthatmightbegeneratedwhenhandling componentscontainingasbestosfibers.Ifthisdustisinhaled,itcanbehazardoustoyourhealth. ComponentsinCaterpillarproductsthatmightcontainasbestosfibersarebrakepads,brakeband andliningassemblies,clutchplatesandsomegaskets.Theasbestosusedinthesecomponentsis usuallyboundinaresinorsealedinsomeway.Normalhandlingisnothazardousaslongas airbornedustwhichcontainsasbestosisnotgenerated.

Ifdustwhichcancontainasbestosispresent,thereareseveralcommonsenseguidelinesthat shouldbefollowed.

*Neverusecompressedairforcleaning.

*Avoidbrushingorgrindingofmaterialscontainingasbestos.

*Forcleanup,usewetmethodsoravacuumequippedwithahighefficiencyparticulateair (HEPA)filter.

*Useexhaustventilationonpermanentmachiningjobs.

*Wearanapprovedrespirator,ifthereisnootherwaytocontrolthedust.

*Complywithapplicablerulesandregulationsfortheworkplace(forexampleinthe U.S.A.,OSHArequirementsassetforthin29CFR1910.1001).

*Followenvironmentalrulesandregulationsfordisposalofasbestos.

*Avoidareaswhereasbestosparticlesmightbeintheair.

CrushingorCuttingPrevention

Supportequipmentandattachmentsproperlywhenworkingbeneaththem.Donotdependon hydrauliccylinderstoholdthemup.Anattachmentcanfallifacontrolleverismoved,orifa hydrauliclinebreaks.

Neverattemptadjustmentswhilethemachineismovingortheengineisrunningunlessotherwise specified.

Wherethereareattachmentlinkages,theclearanceinthelinkageareaincreasesordecreaseswith movementoftheattachment.

Stayclearofallrotatingandmovingparts.

Keepobjectsawayfrommovingfanblades.Theythroworcutanyobjectortoolthatfallsoris pushedintothem.

Donotuseakinkedorfrayedwireropecable.Weargloveswhenhandlingwireropecable.

Retainerpins,whenstruckwithforce,canflyoutandinjurenearbypersons.Makesuretheareais clearofpeoplewhendrivingretainerpins.

Wearprotectiveglasseswhenstrikingaretainerpintoavoidinjurytoyoureyes.

Chipsorotherdebriscanflyoffobjectswhenstruck.Makesurenoonecanbeinjuredbyflying debrisbeforestrikinganyobject.

RolloverProtectiveStructure(ROPS)orFallingObjectsProtectiveStructure(FOPS)

ROPSorFOPSisaguardlocatedabovetheoperator'scompartmentandsecuredtothemachine.

ToavoidpossibleweakeningoftheROPSorFOPS,contactaCaterpillardealerbeforealtering, byaddingweightto,weldingon,orcuttingordrillingholesintothestructure.

AnyalterationnotspecificallyauthorizedbyCaterpillarinvalidatesCaterpillar'sROPSandFOPS certification.TheprotectionofferedbythisROPS/FOPSisimpairedifithasbeensubjectedto structuraldamage.Structuraldamagecanbecausedbyanoverturnaccident,byfallingobjects, etc.

Donotmountanyitemsuchasfireextinguishers,firstaidkits,orlightsbyweldingbracketstoor drillingholesinanyROPS/FOPSstructure.ContactyourCaterpillardealerformounting guidelines.

BurnPrevention

Coolant

Atoperatingtemperature,theenginecoolantishotandunderpressure.Theradiatorandalllines toheatersortheenginecontainhotwaterorsteam.Anycontactcancausesevereburns.

Steamcancausepersonalinjury.

Checkthecoolantlevelonlyaftertheenginehasbeenstoppedandthefillcapiscoolenoughto removewithyourbarehand.

Removethecoolingsystemfillcapslowlytorelievepressure.

Cleanandtightenallelectricalconnections.Checkdailyforlooseorfrayedelectricalwires.Have alllooseorfrayedelectricalwirestightened,repaired,orreplacedbeforeoperatingthemachine.

Keepallfuelsandlubricantsstoredinproperlymarkedcontainersandawayfromallunauthorized persons.

Storealloilyragsorotherflammablematerialinaprotectivecontainer.Storecontainerinasafe place.

Donotweldorflamecutonpipesortubesthatcontainflammablefluids.Cleanpipesortubes thoroughlywithnonflammablesolventbeforeweldingorflamecuttingonthem.

Removeallflammablematerialssuchasfuel,oil,andotherdebrisbeforetheyaccumulateonthe machine.

Ifatallpossibledonotexposethemachinetoflames,burningbrush,etc.

Shields,whichprotecthotexhaustcomponentsfromoilorfuelsprayintheeventofaline,tube, orsealfailure,mustbeinstalledcorrectly.

Donotbendorstrikehighpressurelines.Donotinstallbentordamagedlines,tubes,orhoses. Repairanylooseordamagedfuelandoillines,tubes,andhoses.Leakscancausefires.Contact yourCaterpillardealerforrepairorreplacement.

Checklines,tubes,andhosescarefully.Donotuseyourbarehandtocheckforleaks.Useaboard orcardboardtocheckforleaks.SeethetopicFluidPenetrationintheSafetySectionfordetailed information.Tightenallconnectionstotherecommendedtorque.Replaceifanyofthefollowing conditionsarefound.

*Endfittingsdamagedorleaking.

*Outercoveringchafedorcutandwirereinforcingexposed.

*Outercoveringballooninglocally.

*Evidenceofkinkingorcrushingoftheflexiblepartofhose.

*Armoringembeddedintheoutercover.

*Endfittingsdisplaced.

Makesurethatallclamps,guards,andheatshieldsareinstalledcorrectlytopreventvibration, rubbingagainstotherparts,andexcessiveheatduringoperation.

MountingandDismounting

*Mountanddismountthemachineonlywherestepsand/orhandholdsareprovided.

*Inspect,andwhennecessary,cleanandhaverepairsmadetostepsandhandholdsbefore mountinganddismounting.

*Facethemachinewhenmountinganddismounting.

*Maintainathree-pointcontact(twofeetandonehandoronefootandtwohands)withthe stepsandhandholds.

*Nevergetonoroffamovingmachine.

*Neverjumpoffthemachine.

*Donottrytoclimbonoroffthemachinewhencarryingtoolsorsupplies.Useahandline topullequipmentupontotheplatform.

AlternateExit

Machineswithcabsareequippedwithalternateexits.Therearwindowcanbeusedasanalternate exit.Slidethewindowopenorusethehammertobreaktheglass.

BeforeStartingEngine

Starttheengineonlyfromtheoperator'scompartment.Nevershortacrossthestarterterminalsor acrossthebatteries,asthiscouldbypasstheengineneutral-startsystemaswellasdamagethe electricalsystem.

Inspecttheconditionoftheseatbeltandmountinghardware.Replaceanydamagedorwornparts. Replacetheseatbeltregardlessofappearance,afterthreeyearsofuse.

Adjusttheseattoallowfulltravelofthepedalswhentheoperatorisseatedagainsttheseatback.

Makesurethemachineisequippedwithalightingsystemasrequiredbyconditions.

Makesurealllightsareworkingproperly.

Makesurenooneisworkingon,underneath,orclosetothemachinebeforestartingtheengineor beginningtomovethemachine.Makesuretheareaisfreeofpersonnel.

Operatethemachinewiththeappropriatecounterweightsorrearattachmentsinplace.

EngineStarting

DonotstarttheengineormoveanyofthecontrolsifthereisaDONOTOPERATEorsimilar warningtagattachedtothekeystartswitchorcontrols.

MoveallhydrauliccontrolstotheHOLDpositionbeforestartingtheengine.

MovethetransmissioncontrollevertoNEUTRAL.

Engagetheparkingbrakecontrol.

Dieselengineexhaustcontainsproductsofcombustionwhichcanbeharmfultoyourhealth. Alwaysstartandoperatetheengineinawell-ventilatedarea.Ifinanenclosedarea,ventthe exhausttotheoutside.

BeforeOperatingMachine

Clearallpersonnelfromthemachineandthearea.

Clearallobstaclesfromthepathofthemachine.Bewareofhazardssuchaswires,ditches,etc.

Besureallwindowsareclean.Securethedoorsandwindowsineithertheopenorshutposition.

Adjusttherearviewmirror(s)(ifequipped)forbestvision,especiallyclosetothemachine.

Makesurethemachinehorn,theback-upalarm(ifequipped)andallotherwarningdevicesare workingproperly.

Fastentheseatbeltsecurely.

MachineOperation

Operatethemachineonlywhileseatedandwiththeseatbeltfastened.

Operatethecontrolsonlywiththeenginerunning.

Alwaysoperatethemachinewitheitherappropriatecounterweightsorrearattachmentsinplace.

Checkforproperoperationofallcontrolsandprotectivedeviceswhilemovingslowlyinanopen area.

Theoperatormustbesatisfiedthatnooneisendangeredbeforemovingthemachine.

Donotallowridersonthemachineunlessadditionalseat,seatbelt,andRolloverProtective Structure(ROPS)orFallingObjectProtectiveStructureareprovided.

Reportanyneededrepairsnotedduringoperation.

Carryattachmentsclosetotheground,approximately40cm(15in)abovegroundlevel.

Stayasafedistancefromtheedgeofcliffs,overhangs,andslideareas.

Ifthemachinebeginstosidesliponagrade,immediatelydisposeoftheloadandturnthemachine downhill.

Becarefultoavoidtheconditionwhichcouldleadtotippingwhenworkingonhills,banks,or slopes,andwhencrossingditches,ridges,orotherobstructions.

Workupanddownslopes,ratherthansideways,wheneverpossible.

Keepthemachineundercontrolanddonotworkitoveritscapacity.

Besurehitchpointsandthetowingdeviceareadequate.

Connecttrailingequipmenttoadrawbarorhitchonly.

Neverstraddleawireropecableorsimilardevice,norallowotherstodoso.

Nopersonnelshouldbebetweenthemachineandtrailingequipmentwhenmaneuveringto connectthem.Blockthetongueorhitchoftrailingequipmenttoalignitwiththedrawbarorhitch.

Knowthemaximumheightandreachofyourmachine.

AlwayskeeptheRolloverProtectiveStructure(ROPS)orFallingObjectProtectiveStructure (FOPS)(ifequipped)installedwhenoperatingthemachine.

MachineParking

Parkonalevelsurface.Ifitisnecessarytoparkonagrade,blockthetrackssecurely.

Applytheservicebrakestostopthemachine.

MovethetransmissioncontrollevertoNEUTRALandthespeedcontroltoLOWIDLE.

Engagethetransmissionleverlock.

Engagetheparkingbrakecontrol.

Lowerallattachmentstotheground.

Moveallimplementcontrolstotheneutralposition.

Stoptheengine.

TurnthekeystartswitchtoOFFandremove.

TurnthebatterydisconnectswitchtoOFFandremovethekeywhenleavingthemachineforan extendedperiodofamonthorlonger.Thispreventsbatterydrainbyshortcircuitsorcurrentdraw madebysomeofthecomponents,orbyvandalism.

LoaderBucket/RipperLoweringwithEngineStopped

Theoperatormustbesatisfiedthatnooneisendangeredbeforeloweringtheattachments.

Thebucketcanbeloweredbypushingtheimplementcontrolleverforward.Releasethecontrol leveranditreturnstotheHOLDposition.

Therippercanbeloweredbymovingtherippercontrollevertotheright.Releasethecontrollever anditreturnstotheHOLDposition.
