Caution
BeforereleasingtheQuickCouplerfromtheattachment,verifythatthe attachment(fork,brush,bucket,etc,)isnotcarryinganyload.The attachmentcouldmove,causingloadtobecomeunstableandfall.
1.Levelattachment,approximately6"aboveground.Retractthewedgesbyoperatingthecarrier machine'sthirdhydraulicvalveuntilthewedgeoperatingcylinderisfullyextended.
2.SimultaneouslytilttheQuickCouplerforwardtowardsthedumpposition,reversethecarrier machineuntilthecouplerisfullydisengagedfromtheattachment.

Wearinspection
Applicationdictateswhencouplerrebuildingisrequired.Anexcessiveamountofplaybetween couplerandtheattachmentisanindicationthatwearhasoccurred.Thecoupler'stoptubematerialis designedtowearbeforetheattachment'shookcasting.
Todetermineifrebuildingisrequired,uncouplefromtheattachmentandplaceastraightedgeacross thecoupler'stoptube.Iftheareaswherehookcontactismadediffermorethan3mmfromoriginal toptubediameter,repairproceduresshouldbeimplemented.
UsingweldrodE7018orequivalent,repairhookcontactareabyapplyingweldbeadsacrossthetop tubeuntiltheoriginaldiameterisachieved.Tohelpreduceaccelerationofwearafterrebuilding, grindhighspotsfromtheareawhererepairswerecompleted.
Theendresultisfortheattachment'shookassemblytomakefullwidthcontactacrosscoupler'stop tubecontactarea.
Reviewthefitofthelockingwedgeswiththepocketsoftheattachment.Ifaplayfreefitcannotbe obtainedthewedgesmayneedtobereplaced.
Afterrebuildingthecoupler,connecttoanattachmentandlockintoplace.Checkifarattlefree installationhasbeenachieved.
Whencarriermachinesareequippedwithfrontattachmentsotherthan buckets,liftingaloadthatisgreaterthanshownintheLoadingChart forthatmachinecouldcausetheattachmenttorotatedownward, allowingtheloadtoslideorpitchforwardresultinginpersonalinjury ordeath.

OperatingPrinciple
TheQuickCoupler'swedgesareactuatedbyahydrauliccylinderthatreceivespressureoilfromthe machine'sthirdhydraulicvalvecircuit.
Hydraulichosesfromthemachine'sthirdvalveconnecttoleftandrightjunctionblocks,installedon therearsideoftheQuickCoupler.
Whenthedivertervalveisinthe"Coupler"position,hydraulicoilfromthemachine'sthirdvalve circuitwilloperatethecouplerlockingwedges.
Themachine'sthirdvalvecanalsobeusedtooperateanattachment.Inthiscasetheoperatormust, afterhavinginstalledtheattachment,connecttheattachmenthosestothequickdisconnectcouplings ontheleftandrightjunctionblocksandshiftthedivertervalveoverintothe"Attachment"position.
Thedivertervalveincorporatesalockvalvewhichpreventsthehydraulicoiltodrainfromthe cylinder.Wedgesarelockedhydraulicallyandkeptfirmlyinplace.

OperatingTechniques
Forattachmentsthatdonotrequirethirdvalvehydraulics.
Iftheoperatororanypersonisinthecabandatthecontrols,clearall personnelfromthemachineandfromtheareawhileperformingall stepslistedinoperatingtechniques.
AttachingFrontAttachments
1.Placethedivertervalveinthe"Coupler"position.Movethecouplerlockingwedgesupwardby operatingthecarriermachine'sthirdhydraulicvalve.
Tiltthecouplerforwardbypushingtiltleverforward.
NOTE:Makesurethatthetopcouplertubeisbelowthelevelofthehooksontheattachmenttobe installedbyadjustingtheloaderarmheight.
2.Drivemachineforwardslowly,aligningtheattachmenthookswiththecouplertube.
Pulltheliftleverbacktoslightlyraisecoupler.Raiseloaderarmsuntilcouplertubecontactsthe attachmenthooksandattachmentisliftedslightly.
NOTE:Makesuretheattachmentislevelfromsidetoside.
Alignattachmentpocketswiththeretainingboxesofthecouplerbypullingthetiltleverbackuntil theattachmentsquarelyrestsagainstthecouplerface.
3.Engagecouplerlockingwedgesintotheattachmentretainingpocketsbyoperatingthecarrier machine'sthirdhydraulicvalve.
NOTE:Visuallycheckthatthecouplerlockingwedgesareengagedintoattachmentpockets.Make certainthatattachmentisengagedbyfollowingtheinstructionsbelow.
-Pushthetiltleverforwardtotilttheattachmentdown.
-Pushthetiltleverforwardtoputdownpressureontheattachment.
-Drivethemachinebackwardsandmakesurethatthereisnomovementbetweenthe attachmentandthecoupler.
NOTE:Thisistheonlypositiveindicationthatthecouplerlockingwedgeshavefullyengaged theattachmentretainerpockets.
-Placethedivertervalveinthe"Attachment"positiontopreventcouplerdisengagementby accidentallymovingthethirdvalvelever.
Improperinstallationofattachmentscouldresultininjuryordeath.Do notoperatethismachineuntilyouhavepositiveindicationthatthe couplerwedgesarefullyengaged.
OperatingTechniques
Forattachmentsthatrequirethecarriermachine'sthirdhydraulicvalvecircuit,these additionalstepsarerequired.
1.Stoptheengine.
2.Movealloftheattachment'shydrauliccontrolleverstorelieveanyhydraulicpressure.
3.ReturnallleverstotheNEUTRALposition.
4.Removethequickdisconnectdustplugsfromtheattachmenthoses,wipeoffallforeignmaterial.
5.Removethequickdisconnectdustplugsfromthejunctionblocksonthecoupler'srearside,wipe offallforeignmaterial.
6.Connectattachmenthosestothequickdisconnectfittingsonthejunctionblocks.
7.Movetheleverofthedivertervalveintothe"Attachment"position.
NOTE:Thesteps1through3shouldbedonewhendisconnectinganyhoses.
Improperinstallationofattachmentscouldresultininjuryordeath.Do notoperatethismachineuntilyouhavepositiveindicationthatthe couplerwedgesarefullyengaged.Checkforengagementby:
1.Pushthetiltleverforwardtotilttheattachmentdown.
2.Pushthetiltleverforwardtoputdownpressureonthe attachment.

Wearasuitablehearingprotectivedevicesuchasearmuffsorearplugstoprotectagainst objectionableoruncomfortableloudnoises.
Furthersafetyequipmentincludes:asafetyhelmet,safetyshoes,safetyglasses,well-fitting overallsandindustrialgloves.
Donotwearanecktieorscarf.Keeplonghairrestrained.
3.Careandalertness

Youcanbeinjuredbyflyingsplinterswhendrivingmetalpinsinandout. Guardagainstinjuryfromflyingpiecesofmetalordebris,weargogglesorsafetyglasses.
Useasoft-facedhammerordrifttoremoveorfitmetalpins,suchaspivotpins.
13.Safetybarriers
Unguardedequipmentinpublicplacescanbedangerous.Placebarriersaroundthemachine,to keeppeopleaway.
14.Inspections
Alwaysusetwopeoplewhenmakingcheckswiththeenginerunning.
Theoperatormustbeatthecontrols,abletoseethepersondoingthechecks.
15.Repairsandmaintenance
Besureyouunderstandaserviceprocedurebeforeworkingonthemachineorattachment.
Ifpossible,makeallrepairswiththemachineparkedonalevel,hardsurface.Blockthe machinesoitdoesnotrollwhileworkingonorunderit.

Supporttheattachmentwhenlooseningorremovingpinsorbolts.
17.Modificationsandwelding
Non-approvedmodificationstothemachinecanimpairthefunctionand/orsafetyandaffect machinelife.ContactyourCaterpillardealerforadvisebeforemodifyingtheattachment.
Beforeweldingontheattachmentwhileitisinstalledonthecarrier,disconnectthealternator andthebattery.
18.Hydraulicfluid
Finejetsofhydraulicfluidathighpressurecanpenetratetheskin.
Keephandsandbodyawayfrompinholesandnozzleswhichejectfluidunderhighpressure. Useapieceofcardboardtosearchforleaks.Donotuseyourfingerstocheckforhydraulic fluidleaks.
IfANYfluidisinjectedintotheskin,itmustbesurgicallyremovedwithinafewhoursbya doctorfamiliarwiththistypeofinjuryorgangrenemayresult.
19.Pressures
Relieveallpressuresinair,wateroroilsystemsbeforeanylines,fittingsorrelateditemsare disconnectedorremoved.Hydraulicfluidatsystempressurecaninjuryyou.
Beforedisconnectingorconnectinghydraulichoses,stopthecarrierengineandoperatethe controlstoreleasepressuretrappedinthehoses.
20.Handholdsandsteps
Whenyougetonandofthemachine,alwaysmaintainathreepointcontactwithstepsand handrailsandfacemachine.Donotusecontrolsashandholds.
Neverjumpeitheronoroffthemachine.Nevermountordismountamovingmachine.
Becarefulofslipperyconditionsonplatforms,stepsandhandrailswhenmountingor dismounting.
Neverclimbontotheattachmentunlessequippedwithproperhandholdsandsteps.
21.Tools
Alwaysusepropertoolsthatareingoodconditionandbesurethatyouunderstandhowtouse thembeforeperforminganyservicework.
