Caterpillarrecommendsthatthecoolantmixturecontaina minimumof30%CaterpillarAntifreeze,orequivalent.Liquid supplementalcoolantadditivemustbeadded,whennotusing CaterpillarAntifreeze,whichcontainstheproperadditive.
Neveraddcoolanttoanoverheatedengine,enginedamagecan result.Allowtheenginetocoolfirst.
Allwateriscorrosiveatengineoperatingtemperature.The coolingsystemshouldbeprotectedwitha3%to6% concentrationofliquidsupplementalcoolantadditiveatall times,regardlessoftheconcentrationofantifreeze.
Excessivesupplementalcoolantadditivegreaterthanthe recommended6%,togetherwithconcentrationsofantifreeze greaterthan65%cancausedepositstoformandcanresultin radiatortubeblockage,overheating,and/orwaterpumpseal damage.
Donotuseliquidsupplementalcoolantadditiveorelementsor antifreezewithDowtherm209Full-Fillcoolant.Dowtherm209 Full-Fillcoolantisnotcompatiblewithotherantifreezeand coolantmixtures.
Dowtherm209full-fillcoolantwilllowerthewaterpump cavitationtemperatureandcoolantboilingpoint.Theselowered temperatureswillcauseoverheatingatalowerambient temperaturethananethyleneglycolandwatermix.IfDowtherm isused,followtheinstructionsprovidedanduseonlythe inhibitorpackagerecommendedbythesupplier.
NOTICE
Ifthemachineistobestoredin,orshippedto,anareawith freezingtemperatures,thecoolingsystemmustbeprotectedto thelowestexpectedoutside(ambient)temperature.
Theenginecoolingsystemisnormallyprotectedto-28°C(-20° F)withCaterpillarAntifreeze,whenshippedfromthefactory unlessspecialrequirementsaredefined.
NOTICE
Caterpillarrecommendsthatthecoolantmixcontaina minimumof30%CaterpillarAntifreeze,orequivalentand acceptablewatertomaintainanadequatewaterpump cavitationtemperatureforefficientwaterpumpperformance.
Premixcoolantsolutiontoprovideprotectiontothelowest expectedoutside(ambient)temperature.Pureundiluted antifreezewillfreezeat-23°C(-10°F).
Onlyuseagreaterconcentration(above30%)ofCaterpillar Antifreezeasneededforanticipatedoutside(ambient) temperatures.Donotexceedacoolantmixtureof60% antifreezetowatersinceaconcentrationabove60%antifreeze willreducetheengine'sfreezeprotectionandincreasethe possibilityofdepositformationinthecoolingsystem.

NOTICE
Alwaysaddsupplementalcoolantadditiveorequivalenttothe coolant,orinstallaCaterpillarsupplementalcoolantadditive element(ifequipped).Neverusecoolantonly,exceptif CaterpillarAntifreezeisbeingusedwhichcontainstheadditive. Inthiscase,nosupplementalcoolantadditiveisneededon initialfill,butisnecessaryonamaintenancebasis.
Usesupplementalcoolantadditiveorasupplementalcoolant additiveelement(ifequipped).Thiswillprovidea3%to6% concentrationinthecoolingsystemtohelppreventcorrosion.
Topreventoverinhibitingtheengine'scoolingsystem,never useboththeliquidsupplementalcoolantadditiveandthe supplementalcoolantadditiveelement(ifequipped)atthe sametime.Theuseoftheseadditivestogethercouldresultin excessiveconcentrationthatwouldexceedtheCaterpillar recommendedmaximumof6%.
NOTICE
Excessiveconcentrationofanadditivecanformdepositson thehighertemperaturesurfacesofthecoolingsystemand createabarrierthatreducestheengine'sheattransfer characteristics.Reducedheattransfercouldcausecrackingof thecylinderheadandotherhightemperaturecomponents. Excessiveconcentrationsofadditivecouldalsoaccelerate waterpumpsealwear.
Supplementalcoolantadditiveisneededwhennotusing CaterpillarAntifreezeforpremixedcoolantsolution.
NOTICE
DONOTaddsupplementalcoolantadditiveatinitialfillwhen usingCaterpillarAntifreeze.CaterpillarAntifreezecontainsthe necessarysupplementalcoolantadditiveprecharge.Addition
ofsupplementalcoolantadditivecouldresultinan overconcentration.
