1.TurntheenginestartswitchtotheONposition.Donotstarttheengine.
2.MovethetransmissiondirectioncontrolswitchtotheREVERSEposition.
3.Thebackupalarmshouldimmediatelysound.Thebackupalarmwillcontinuetosounduntil thetransmissioncontrolismovedtotheNEUTRALpositionortotheFORWARDposition.
Thebackupalarm(1)ismountedontherearofthemachine. Accesstothebackupalarmrequiresremovalofupperrearaccesspanel.
Athree-positionswitchattherearofthebackupalarmregulatesthesoundofthealarm(HIGH, LOW,andMEDIUM).
Thealarmissetatthemaximumsoundlevelwhenthemachineisshippedfromthefactory.The settingshouldremainonHIGHunlessthejobsiterequiresalowersoundlevel.

Removethebatteryholddownplate(2).
Cleanthebatteryterminalsandthesurfacesofthebatterieswithacleancloth.Coatthebattery terminalswithpetroleumjelly.Makesurethatthebatterycablesareinstalledsecurely.
Reinstallthebatteryholddownplate,thebatteryholddownknobandtheenginecompartment accesspanel.

5.Disconnectthepositivebatterycableatthebattery.
6.Inspectthebatteryterminalsforcorrosion.Inspectthebatterycablesforwearordamage.
7.Makeanynecessaryrepairs.Ifnecessary,replacethebatterycablesorthebattery.
8.Connectthepositivebatterycableatthebattery.
9.Connectthenegativebatterycableatthebattery.
10.Connectthebatterycableatthebatterydisconnectswitch.
11.InstallthekeyandturnthebatterydisconnectswitchON.
RecycletheBattery

Tomaximizetheengineperformance,inspectthebelt(1)forwearandforcracking.Replacethe beltifthebeltiswornordamaged.
•Inspectthebeltforcracks,splits,glazing,grease,displacementofthecordandevidenceof fluidcontamination.
Thebeltmustbereplacedifthefollowingconditionsarepresent.
•Thebelthasacrackinmorethanonerib.
•Morethanonesectionofthebeltisdisplacedinoneribofamaximumlengthof50.8mm(2 inch).
Toreplacethebelt,refertoDisassemblyandAssembly,"AlternatorBelt-RemoveandInstall".If necessary,replacethebelttensioner.RefertoDisassemblyandAssembly,"AlternatorBeltRemoveandInstall"forthecorrectprocedure.

Ensurethatthebelttensionerissecurelyinstalled.Visuallyinspectthebelttensioner(1)for damage.Checkthatthepulleyonthetensionerrotatesfreelyandthatthebearingisnotloose. Someengineshaveanidlerpulley(2).Ensurethattheidlerpulleyissecurelyinstalled.Visually inspecttheidlerpulleyfordamage.Ensurethattheidlerpulleycanrotatefreelyandthatthe bearingisnotloose.Ifnecessary,replacedamagedcomponents.
Installthebelt.RefertoDisassemblyandAssembly,"AlternatorBelt-RemoveandInstall".
