Maintenance

Themaintenancesectionisaguidetoequipmentcare.TheMaintenanceIntervalSchedule(MIS) liststheitemstobemaintainedataspecificserviceinterval.Itemswithoutspecificintervalsare listedunderthe"WhenRequired"serviceinterval.TheMaintenanceIntervalScheduleliststhe pagenumberforthestep-by-stepinstructionsrequiredtoaccomplishthescheduledmaintenance. UsetheMaintenanceIntervalScheduleasanindexor"onesafesource"forallmaintenance procedures.

MaintenanceIntervals

Usetheservicehourmetertodetermineservicingintervals.Calendarintervalsshown(daily, weekly,monthly,etc.)canbeusedinsteadofservicehourmeterintervalsiftheyprovidemore convenientservicingschedulesandapproximatetheindicatedservicehourmeterreading. Recommendedserviceshouldalwaysbeperformedattheintervalthatoccursfirst.

Underextremelysevere,dustyorwetoperatingconditions,morefrequentlubricationthanis specifiedinthemaintenanceintervalschartmightbenecessary.

Performserviceonitemsatmultiplesoftheoriginalrequirement.Forexample,atevery500 servicehoursor3months,alsoservicethoseitemslistedunderevery250servicehoursor monthlyandevery10servicehoursordaily.

CaliforniaProposition65Warning

DieselengineexhaustandsomeofitsconstituentsareknowntotheStateofCaliforniatocause cancer,birthdefects,andotherreproductiveharm.

CertifiedEngineMaintenance

Propermaintenanceandrepairisessentialtokeeptheengineandmachinesystemsoperating correctly.Astheheavydutyoff-roaddieselengineowner,youareresponsiblefortheperformance oftherequiredmaintenancelistedintheOwnerManual,OperationandMaintenanceManual,and ServiceManual.

Itisprohibitedforanypersonengagedinthebusinessofrepairing,servicing,selling,leasing,or tradingenginesormachinestoremove,alter,orrenderinoperativeanyemissionrelateddeviceor elementofdesigninstalledonorinanengineormachinethatisincompliancewiththe regulations(40CFRPart89).Certainelementsofthemachineandenginesuchastheexhaust system,fuelsystem,electricalsystem,intakeairsystemandcoolingsystemmaybeemission relatedandshouldnotbealteredunlessapprovedbyCaterpillar.

MachineCapacity

Additionalattachmentsormodificationsmayexceedmachinedesigncapacitywhichcan adverselyaffectperformancecharacteristics.Includedwouldbestabilityandsystemcertifications suchasbrakes,steering,androlloverprotectivestructures(ROPS).ContactyourCatdealerfor furtherinformation.

CatProductIdentificationNumber

EffectiveFirstQuarter2001theCatProductIdentificationNumber(PIN)haschangedfrom8to 17characters.Inanefforttoprovideuniformequipmentidentification,Caterpillarandother constructionequipmentmanufacturersaremovingtocomplywiththelatestversionoftheproduct identificationnumberingstandard.Non-roadmachinePINsaredefinedbyISO10261.Thenew PINformatwillapplytoallCatmachinesandgeneratorsets.ThePINplatesandframemarking willdisplaythe17characterPIN.Thenewformatwilllooklikethefollowing:

3.CheckCharacter(character9)

4.MachineIndicatorSection(MIS)orProductSequenceNumber(characters10-17).Thesewere previouslyreferredtoastheSerialNumber.

MachinesandgeneratorsetsproducedbeforeFirstQuarter2001willmaintaintheir8character PINformat.

Componentssuchasengines,transmissions,axles,etc.andworktoolswillcontinuetousean8 characterSerialNumber(S/N).

Theuseofselfpropelledcleaningagentsareprohibitedandshouldnotbeusedtocleanthe windowsbasedonthehighlyreactivechemicalcompositionthatwilldamagethewindows. However,theuseofAmmoniaFreeWindexisanapprovedproduct. Thefrontwindowcanbecleanedbystandingonthetrack.Machineswithhydraulictiltmustbe tiltedforwardtosafelycleanthewholefrontwindow.

GeneralCleaning

NOTICE

Washpolycarbonatewindowswithmildsoapandwater.Neverusea cleaningsolventonpolycarbonatewindows.Neverwipedustinadry state,aspolycarbonatewindowscanbeeasilyscratched.

1.Thoroughlypre-rinsewithwarmwatertoloosenandwashawaysurfacematerial,grit,and grime.

2.Usingasoftmicrofiberclothormoistnon-abrasivesponge,gentlywashwithamilddiluted soapordetergent.

3.Rinsethoroughlywithlukewarmcleanwater.Topreventwaterspots,thoroughlydrythe glazingwithadrysoftcloth.

RemovingHeavyOilsandTars

1.Thoroughlypre-rinsewithwarmwatertoloosenandwashawaysurfacematerial,grit,and grime.

2.Witha50/50isopropylalcohol-watermixture,gentlyrubtheareawithasoftnon-abrasive cloth.

3.Immediatelyrinsethoroughlywithlukewarmcleanwater.Topreventwaterspots, thoroughlydrytheglazingwithadrysoftcloth.

PointstoRemember

1.Donotuseabrasivecleaners.

2.Donotusehighalkalinecleaners(highpHorammoniatedcleaners).

3.Donotleavecleanerssittingonpolycarbonateforperiodsoftime.Washoffimmediately withwarmcleanwater.

4.Donotapplycleanersunderdirectsunlightoratelevatedtemperatures.

5.Donotcleanyourpolycarbonatewithanyunapprovedcleaners.Whenindoubt,seek guidance.Usingscrapers,squeegees,razorsorothersharpinstrumentsmaypermanently scratchyourpolycarbonate.

6.DoNotBuffthesurface.Alwaysavoiddryrubbing/cleaningyourpolycarbonate,assand anddustparticlesclingingtotheexterioroftheglazingmayscratchthesurface.AnAntiStaticCanned-AirIonizercanreduceelectrostaticchargebuilduponpolycarbonate, thereforereducingdirtanddustbuildupthatwouldhindercleaning.

Note:Theedgesofyourpolycarbonatewindowsarenotprotectedbyaspecializedhardcoating. Donotallowcleaningsolutions,solvents,orchemicalstocomeincontact,orpool,alongthe edgesofthewindows.Rinsetheedgesthoroughlywithgenerousamountsoflukewarmclean water.

MeasuringTrackTension

1.Placeastraightedgeonthetracks.Thestraightedgeshouldbelongenoughtoreachfrom theidlertothecarrierroller.

2.Measurethemaximumamountofsaginthetrack.Thesagismeasuredfromthehighest pointofthetrackgrousertothebottomoftheedge.Atrackthatisproperlyadjustedwill haveaslackof40to55mm(15/8to21/8inch).

TighteningtheTrack

Cleanthefittingbeforeyouaddlubricant.

1.Addlubricantthroughthefittinguntilthecorrecttracktensionisreached.

2.Operatethemachinebackandforthinordertoequalizethepressure.

3.Checktheamountofsag.Adjustthetrack,asneeded.

LooseningtheTrack

1.Loosenthereliefvalvecarefullyuntilthetrackbeginstoloosen.Oneturnshouldbethe maximum.

2.Tightenthereliefvalveto34±5N·m(25±4lbft)whenthedesiredtracktensionis reached.
