Air Cleaner - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Remove the left side engine panel.

Installation Procedure
1. Install air cleaner (4) in the reverse order of removal.

Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Remove the right side engine panel.

1. Turn battery disconnect switch (1) to the OFF position.

2. Release the tension on belt tensioner (3). Remove belt (2). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Belts, Inspect/Adjust/Replace " to remove and install belt (2).

3. Disconnect cable assembly (4). Disconnect harness assembly (5).

4. Remove bolts (6) and alternator (7).
Installation Procedure
1. Install alternator (7) in the reverse order of removal.

Battery - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.
First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.
A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.

1. Open hood assembly (1). Remove lower panel (2).

2. Turn disconnect (3) to OFF position.

3. Remove wing nuts (4). Relocate cover (5).

4. Remove hold down brackets (8). Remove all negative ground cables (6) first, then remove positive cables (7). Remove batteries (9).
Installation Procedure

Diesel Exhaust Fluid Filter - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

1. Drain the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

2. Disconnect harness assemblies (1) .

3. Disconnect hose assemblies (3).
Note: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8231, "Removal Procedures for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Connectors" for the correct removal procedure of hose assemblies (3) .
4. Install clamps on hoses (2). Remove hoses (2).

5. Remove screws (4) and the plate. Remove diesel exhaust fluid filter (5).
Installation Procedure
1. Install Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) filter (5) in the reverse order of removal.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
2. Disconnect harness assemblies (2).

Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 halfface respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
The muffler, catalytic converter/muffler, and diesel particulate filter will become extremely hot during engine operation. A hot muffler,
catalytic converter/muffler and diesel particulate filter can cause serious burns. Allow adequate cooling time before working on or near the muffler, catalytic converter/muffler and diesel particulate filter.
Note: Do not strike any part of the assembly of the diesel particulate filter . Do not allow any object to contact the internal element of the diesel particulate filter. If the internal element of the diesel particulate filter becomes damaged, the assembly must be replaced.
1. Drain Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

2. Remove covers (1) .

3. Remove bolts (2) and remove exhaust extension (3) .

9. Remove bolts (12) and deck assembly (13) .

10. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to enclosure assembly (14) . The weight of enclosure assembly (14) is approximately 91 kg (200 lb). Remove bolts (15) and lower enclosure assembly (14) straight downward in order to clear the back side of the diesel particulate filter.

11. Remove sensors (16) from the exhaust pipe. Disconnect bracket (17) and relocate sensors (16) .

12. Disconnect all soot sensors (18) and sensors (19) . Remove band clamp (20) .

1. Attach a suitable lifting device to diesel particulate filter (21) . The weight of diesel particulate filter (21) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). Remove bolts (22) . Remove diesel particulate filter (21) .
Installation Procedure
1. Install diesel particulate filter (21) in the reverse order of the removal.
a. Lubricate the threads of soot sensor (14) . Tighten to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33. ± 4 lb ft).

1. Raise loader arms and lock into place. Remove the left-hand side panel.
