Attachmentmountingprocedure
Ifoperatororanypersonisinthecabandatthecontrols,clearall personnelfromthemachineandtheareawhileperformingthesteps listedbelow.
1.Positiontheattachmentonalevelsurface.
2.RetractbucketcylinderandpositiontheQuickCouplerinlinebetweentheattachmenthinges.
AttachmentshouldnotbecarryinganyloadwhenconnectingQuick Couplertoattachment.Attachmentcouldmove,causingloadtobecome unstableandfall.
3.Movestickforwardandupuntilthelowerbosses(stickside)oftheCouplerengageinthe attachmenthinges.
4.Operatewedgecylinderbyturningswitchclockwiseintothe"Wedgeunlocked"position.
Beforetheswitchreachesthe"Wedgeunlocked"positionitwillpassthroughanintermediate positionwhichwillactivateawarningbuzzer.
5.RotateCouplertowardloadpositionbypushingbucketcylinderout.
Centerbosses(powerlinkside)mustengagewiththehollowintheattachmenthinge.
6.Retractthewedgecylinderbyturningtheswitchcounterclockwiseintothe"Wedgelocked" position.
ThespringsintheQuickCouplerwilldrawthelockingwedgeintothehardenedlockingareaof theattachmenthinge.
Whentheswitchisturnedfromthe"Wedgeunlocked"tothe"Wedgelocked"positionitpasses throughanintermediatepositionwhichwillde-activatethewarningbuzzer.
7.Raiseboomorstick.Theattachmentisfirmlyandsafelylockedandisreadyforuse.
8.Removethekeyfromtheswitchandstoreinasafeplace.
Improperattachmentofimplementscouldresultininjuryordeath.Do notoperatethismachineuntilyouhavepositiveindicationthatthe lockingwedgeisfullyengaged.

Attachmentreleaseprocedure
BeforereleasingtheQuickCouplerfromtheattachment,besurethe attachmentisnotcarryinganyload.Theattachmentcouldmove, causingloadtobecomeunstableandfall.
Neverdisengagethecoupler'slockingwedgewhentheattachmentisnot firmlypositionedontheground.
Ifoperatororanypersonisinthecabandatthecontrols,clearall personnelfromthemachineandtheareawhileperformingthesteps thatfollow.
1.Levelbucketwiththeground.
2.Pushoutthelockingwedgeagainstthespringforcebymovingthehydraulicpowerswitchto the"Wedgeunlocked"position. Beforetheswitchreachesthe"Wedgeunlocked"positionitwillpassthroughanintermediate positionwhichwillactivateawarningbuzzer.
3.SimultaneouslyrolltheQuickCouplertowardsyoubyretractingthebucketcylinder.
4.Turnthehydraulicpowerswitchontheconsolebackintothe"Wedgelocked"position.
Whentheswitchisturnedfromthe"Wedgeunlocked"tothe"Wedgelocked"positionitpasses throughanintermediatepositionwhichwillde-activatethewarningbuzzer.
5.Movestickdownandtowardsyoutodisengagethecouplerfromthebuckethinges.

2.Clothing
Youcanbeinjuredifyoudonotwearproperclothing.Looseclothingcangetcaughtinthe machinery.Wearfairlytightprotectiveclothingtosuitthejob.
Wearasuitablehearingprotectivedevicesuchasearmuffsorearplugstoprotectagainst objectionableoruncomfortableloudnoises.
Furthersafetyequipmentincludes:asafetyhelmet,safetyshoes,safetyglasses,well-fitting overallsandindustrialgloves.
Donotwearanecktieorscarf.Keeplonghairrestrained.
3.Careandalertness
Allthetimeyouareworkingwiththeattachmenttakecareandstayalert.Alwaysbe careful.Alwaysbealertforhazards.
4.Liftingequipment
Youcanbeinjuredifyouusefaultyliftingequipment.
Makesurethatliftingequipmentisingoodcondition.Makesurethatliftingtacklecomplies withalllocalregulationsandissuitableforthejob.Makesurethatliftingequipmentis strongenoughforthejobandyouknowhowtouseit.
Theremaybesomelocalgovernmentregulationsregardingtheuseofexcavatorstolift heavyobjects.Pleasesobservethoseregulationswheretheyapply.
5.Regulationsandlaws
Obeyalllaws,worksiteandlocalregulationswhichaffectyouandyourequipment.
6.Equipmentlimits
Operatingequipmentbeyonditsdesignlimitscancausedamage.Itcanalsobedangerous.
Donottrytoupgradetheequipment'sperformancebyunapprovedmodifications.
7.Equipmentinspection
Inspectthemachineandattachmentdailybywalkingarounditbeforeyoustartit.

8.Practice

Worksitescanbehazardous.Inspectthesitebeforeworkingonit.
Makesuretheworksitefootinghassufficientstrengthtofirmlysupportthemachine.Check forpotholes,hiddenrocksetc.
Checkforutilities(electriccables,gasandwaterpipesetc.)beforedigging. Whenoperatingonaslope,keeptheloadclosetotheground.
11.Banksandtrenches
Bankedmaterialandtrenchescancollapse.Donotworktooclosetobanksandtrenches wherethereisdangerofcollapse.
12.Metalsplinters
Youcanbeinjuredbyflyingsplinterswhendrivingmetalpinsinandout.
Guardagainstinjuryfromflyingpiecesofmetalordebris,weargogglesorsafetyglasses. Useasoft-facedhammerordrifttoremoveorfitmetalpins,suchasretainerpins.
Makesuretheareaisclearofpeoplewhendrivingretainerpins.
13.Safetybarriers
Unguardedequipmentinpublicplacescanbedangerous.Placebarriersaroundthemachine, tokeeppeopleaway.
14.Inspections
Alwaysusetwopeoplewhenmakingcheckswiththeenginerunning.
Theoperatormustbeatthecontrols,abletoseethepersondoingthechecks.
15.Repairsandmaintenance
Besureyouunderstandaserviceprocedurebeforeworkingonthemachineorattachment.
Ifpossible,makeallrepairswiththemachineparkedonalevel,hardsurface.Blockthe machinesoitdoesnotrollwhileworkingonorunderit.
Attacha"DONOTOPERATE"tagtothemachine.
Disablethevehicletopreventaccidentalstartupduringmaintenance.
16.Supportattachment
Donotworkunderaraisedattachment.Lowerattachmenttotheground,ontoblocksor stands.
Alwaysuseliftarmsupportstokeeploaderarmsraisedandattachmenttilteddownif maintenanceproceduresrequiretheattachmenttobeintheraisedposition.
Supporttheattachmentwhenlooseningorremovingpinsorbolts.
17.Modificationsandwelding
Non-approvedmodificationstothemachinecanimpairthefunctionand/orsafetyandaffect machinelife.ContactyourCaterpillardealerforadvisebeforemodifyingtheattachment.
Beforeweldingontheattachmentwhileitisinstalledonthecarrier,disconnectthe alternatorandthebattery.
18.Hydraulicfluid
Finejetsofhydraulicfluidathighpressurecanpenetratetheskin.
Keephandsandbodyawayfrompinholesandnozzleswhichejectfluidunderhigh pressure.Useapieceofcardboardtosearchforleaks.Donotuseyourfingerstocheckfor hydraulicfluidleaks.
IfANYfluidisinjectedintotheskin,itmustbesurgicallyremovedwithinafewhoursbya doctorfamiliarwiththistypeofinjuryorgangrenemayresult.
19.Lines,TubesandHoses
Donotbendorstrikehighpressurelines.Donotinstallbentordamagedhoses.
Checkhosescarefully.Replaceifanyofthefollowingconditionsarefound.
*Endfittingsdamagedorleaking.
*Outercoveringchafedorcutandwirereinforcingexposed.
*Outercoveringballooninglocally.
*Evidenceofkinksorcrushesintheflexiblepartofthehose.
*Armoringembeddedintheoutercover.
*Endfittingsdisplaced.
Makesurethatallclampsandshieldsareinstalledcorrectlytopreventvibrationand rubbingagainstotherpartsduringoperation.
20.Pressures
Relieveallpressuresinair,wateroroilsystemsbeforeanylines,fittingsorrelateditemsare disconnectedorremoved.Hydraulicfluidatsystempressurecaninjureyou.
Beforedisconnectingorconnectinghydraulichoses,stoptheengineandoperatethe controlstoreleasepressuretrappedinthehoses.
21.Handholdsandsteps
Whenyougetonandofthemachine,alwaysmaintainathreepointcontactwithstepsand handrailsandfacemachine.Donotusecontrolsashandholds.
Neverjumpeitheronoroffthemachine.Nevermountordismountamovingmachine.
Becarefulofslipperyconditionsonplatforms,stepsandhandrailswhenmountingor dismounting.
Neverclimbontotheattachmentunlessequippedwithproperhandholdsandsteps.
22.Tools
Alwaysusepropertoolsthatareingoodconditionandbesurethatyouunderstandhowto usethembeforeperforminganyservicework.
