AbnormalConditions LoweringtheBoomWiththeEngineStopped.

Whenloweringtheboomwiththeenginestopped,keepallpersonnel awayfromtheboomarea.

Theboomventvalvemustbeclosedbeforethemachineisoperated. Theboomcanberaisednormallywiththevalveopen,butiftheboom controlisputinthelowerposition,theboomcandropsuddenlyoutof control.

1.Movethehydraulicandantitravellockcontroltothelower(inoperable)position.

2.Unlatchandopentheleftsidefrontaccessdoor.

3.Opentheboomventvalvecompletely.

5.Cautiouslymovetheboomcontroltothedownpositiontoslowlylowertheboom.

4.Movethehydraulicandantitravellockcontroltotheupper(operable)position.
6.Movethehydrauliclockcontrollevertothelower(inoperable)position

7.Closetheboomventvalve.Closeandsecuretheaccessdoor.

SwingingtheMachineWiththeEngineStopped

1.Toswingthemachine,firstapplytheswingbrake.

2.Disconnecttheswingmotorhydrauliclines.

3.Attachanexternalliftingdevicetotheboom(see"RaisingtheBoomWiththeEngine Stopped").Raisetheboomhighenoughtoclearobstacles.

4.Releasetheswingbrake.

5.Liftandswingtheboom.

6.Applytheswingbrake.

7.Beforestartingrepairs,lower,blockorinsomemannersecuretheboom.

8.Connectthehydrauliclines.

RaisingtheBoomWiththeEngineStopped

Blockorsecuretheboominpositionwhenworkingaroundorunder theraisedboom.

Besuretoreconnectalllinesbeforeattemptingtooperatethemachine.

1.Openthebleedscrewfortherodendoftherighthandboomcylindertorelievepressureinthe hydrauliclines.

2.Disconnectthehosethatgoestotherodendoftherighthandboomcylinder.

3.Attachanexternalliftingdevicetotheboom.

4.Ifthemachinemustbetowed,referto"Towing."

NOTICE

Donotactivatethecontrolsforanycircuitthathasbeenblockedout.

Donotuseablockingplateinalinethatconnectsapumptoacontrol valve.

Toensureareplacementlinehassufficientburstcapacity,usethe correctCaterpillarPartNumberPartasareplacement.

Ifamachineistobemovedwithabrokenlineinanycircuitotherthanthetrackcircuit,installa blockingplate.

Installitinthelinebetweenthebreakandtheoilsupply.

Thiswillstoptheleakandallowthemachinetobemovedunderitsownpower.

Keeptheblockingplatesinthemachinetoolbox.

Towing

Besurethetowlineisstrongenoughandisingoodcondition.

Attachthetowlineonlytotheeyesontheframe.Donottowfasterthan 8kph(5mph).

Shieldingmustbeprovidedonthetowingvehicletoprotectthe operatorifthetowlinebreaks.

Donothavetensiononthetowlinewheninspectingit.Donotjerkthe towline;itmaybreak.

Useatowbarifthemachineistobemovedmorethanafewfeet.Ifa towbarisnotavailable,attachamachineofequalsizetotherearofthe towedmachinetoprovidebrakingwhengoingdownhill.

Donotallowridersonamachinethatisbeingtowed.

Alwaysblockbothtracksbeforedisengagingthefinaldrives.Whenthe finaldrivesaredisengaged,thebrakesarealsodisengaged.The machinecanmove.

Useprecautionstomaintaincontrolofthemachinewhenusinganother machinetotowit.

Blockthetrackswhenparkingifthefinaldrivesaredisengaged.

NOTICE

Totowthemachine,bothfinaldrivesmustbedisengaged.

Donotoperatethetrackmotorswiththefinaldrivesdisengaged. Damagecouldresult.

1.Todisengagethefinaldrives,blockthetracks.Removetheaccessplugineachfinaldrive.

2.Backthenutoutuntilitisflushwiththeendoftherod.Installtheplugs.

3.Keepthetowlinestraight.Donotexceeda30°anglefromthestraightaheadposition.

4.Inspectthetowlinebeforetakinguptheslack.Refastenthelineifnecessary.

5.Afterattachingthetowlinesecurely,movethetowingvehicleslowlytotakeuptheslack.

6.Blockthetrackswhenthemachineisparked.

7.Toengagethefinaldrives,removetheaccessplugs.Tightenthenutsto383±18N·m(282± 17lb.ft.).

NOTICE

1.5cm(3/4inch)ofthreadshouldbevisibleontherod.Ifnot,loosen thenut.Forceaslightturnofthesprocket.Torquethenut.

8.Installtheplugs.

DisconnectingFinalDrives(OptionalLightDutyUndercarriage)

1.Adisconnectpinionislocatedatthetopofeachfinaldrivehousing,behindthesprocket.

2.Removetwoboltsandthebracketontopofthepinionretainer.

3.Todisengagethepinion,usea1/2inchsquaredrivetoturntheretainertotheleft (counterclockwise).Turntheretaineruntilthebracketcanbeturned90°andinstalledunderthe retainer,withtheslotinthebracketlockingtheretainerinthedisengagedposition.

4.Topreventtheretainerfrommovingwhiletowing,boltthebrackettothefinaldrivehousing, usingthetwobolts,throughtheslottedholesinthebracket.

Toengagethefinaldrives,reversetheprocedureusedfordisengagement.

NOTE:Iftheretainerwillnotpushthepinionintoengagement,backtheretaineroutagain.Force apartialrotationofthesprockettoalignthesplines.Engagethesplines.

AfterStartingtheEngine

Ifthewarningflasher(1)remainsonafterstarting,checktheengineoilpressuregauge(2).If pressurefailstoregisterin10seconds,stoptheengine.Haverepairsmade.

NOTICE

Keeptheengineatlowidleuntiloperatingtemperatureisreached.

Stoptheengineandchecktheoillevelatthebeginningofeachshift.

Theoillevelshouldbeintheareashownonthedipstick.

Warm-up

1.Forafasterwarm-up,opentheleftsiderearaccessdoor.

2.Blocktheairflowthroughtheradiatorandoilcooler.

NOTICE

Topreventoverheating,removetheblockingwhenoperating temperatureisreached.

3.Tohelpspeedhydraulicwarm-up,holdthesheartiporbucketcontrolinthecloseortiltback position.Dothisforshortperiods,notmorethan10seconds.

4.Thiswillallowtheoiltoreachreliefpressure,whichcausesittowarmmorerapidly.

5.Whenidlingtheengineforwarm-up:

Intemperaturesof0°C(32°F)orabove,warm-uprequiresapproximately15minutes.

Intemperaturesof0°to-18°C(32°to0°F),warm-uprequiresapproximately30minutes.

Intemperaturesbelow-18°C(0°F),orifhydraulicfunctionsaresluggish,moretimemaybe required.

BeforeStarting

Walk-AroundInspection

Foroperatingpersonnelsafety,topreventfiresandtoensuremaximumservicelifeofthe machine,makeathoroughwalk-aroundinspectionbeforemountingthemachine.Lookunderand aroundthemachineforsuchitemsaslooseormissingboltsandtrashbuildup.Lookforoil,fuelor coolantleaksandconditionoftheshearorbucketandtracks.

1.EngineCompartment Lookforoilandfuelleaksandfortrashbuildup.

2.PumpDriveCompartment Lookforleaks.

3.HydraulicSystem

Lookforleaks,wornhosesordamagedlines.

4.CoversandGuards

BeforeStartingtheEngine

Theloggermachinemustbelevelwiththearmandtipcylindersfullyextended,theshearonthe groundwiththebladesclosed,andtheenginestopped.

Thebackhoemachinemustbelevel,withthestickandbucketcylindersfullyextended,the equipmentonthegroundandtheenginestopped.

Withthehydraulicoilcold,theoillevelshouldbetothefullmarkonthesightgauge.

Atoperatingtemperature,theenginecoolantishotandunderpressure. Steamcancausepersonalinjury.

CheckthecoolantlevelONLYwhentheengineisstoppedandthe radiatorfillcapiscoolenoughtotouchwithyourhand. Removethefillcapslowlytorelievepressure.

CoolingSystemConditionercontainsalkali.Avoidcontactwithskin andeyestopreventpersonalinjury.

Checktheradiatorcoolantlevel.Thelevelshouldbewithin1cm(1/2inch)ofthebottomofthe fillpipe.

Atthebeginningofashift,thefuellevelshouldbetotheFULLmarkonthedipstickinthefill opening.

Drainthewaterseparator.Drainitintoacontainer.Closetheshutoffvalve(1).Openventvalve (2)anddrainvalve(3).Allowthewatertodrain.Closetheventanddrainvalves.Opentheshutoff valve.

Opentheaccesscover.Openthefueltankdrainvalve.Allowmoistureandsedimenttodrain. Closethevalve.Closethecover.

Opentheaircleanercover.

IfthedustlevelistotheFULLmarkontheprecleanercup,removeandemptythecup.

Openthereardoor.Checktheengineoillevelwiththeenginestopped.

Thelevelshouldbeinthisrangeonthedipstick.

TesttheWarningandIndicatorlightsasfollows:

1.Theservicedisconnectmustbeon.Turntheoperator'sstationdisconnectswitch(1)on.The MasterWarningLight(2)shouldgoon.

2.Movethesystem'stestswitchtotheright.TheAirFilterandHydraulicOilFilterServiceLights shouldgoon.

ChecktheFireSuppressionSystemasfollows:

1.Checkthegaugeattheactuatorintheoperator'scompartment.Itshouldreadinthegreenrange.

2.Checkthegaugeattheactuatorattherightfrontoftheupperstructure.Itshouldreadinthe greenrange.

3.Checkthegaugesontheagentcylinders.Theyshouldreadinthegreenrange.

4.Besuretheshipping/servicepinsattheagentcylindersareinthemanualdischargehandle position.

Cleandebrisfromtheradiatorandoilcoolercores,ifneeded,asfollows:

Controls

VehicleControls

EngineGovernorControl:

1.Todecreasetheenginespeed,movetheleverforward.

2.Toincreasetheenginespeed,movethelevertotherear.

TravelPedals:

Forwardtravelreferstotraveltowardtheidlers.Reversetravelreferstotraveltowardthe sprockets.

Thefartherthepedalsarepusheddown,thefasterthetravelspeed.

Thebrakesareappliedautomaticallywhenthepedalsarereleased.

ReverseTravelPedal(1.)-Forreversetravel,pushdownthelefthandpedal.

ForwardTravelPedal(2.)-Forforwardtravel,pushdowntherighthandpedal.

SteeringControl

Thetravelpedalsmustbeusedinconjunctionwiththelever.See"MovingtheMachine"formore details.

1.ReverseLeftTrack-Movethelevertothefarlefttoreversethetraveldirectionoftheleft track.Thispermitsaspotturn.

2.PivotLeftTrack-Movetheleverpartwaytothelefttodisengagethelefttrackandbrakeit. Thispermitsapivotleftturn.

3.StraightTravel-Centerthelevertopermitstraightforwardorstraightreversetravel.

4.PivotRightTrack-Movetheleverpartwaytotherighttodisengagetherighttrackandbrake it.Thispermitsapivotrightturn.

5.ReverseRightTrack-Movethelevertothefarrighttoreversethetraveldirectionoftheright track.Thispermitsaspotturn.

HydraulicandAntitravelLockLever

Locked-Withtheleverdown,allhydrauliccontrolsandtravelpedalsareINOPERABLE.

Operable-Withtheleverup,allhydrauliccontrolsandtravelpedalsareOPERABLE.

NOTICE

Engagethepinonlywhentheupperstructureisalignedwiththetrack. Donotattempttoengagethepinwhentheupperstructureisrotating. Thepinmustbeengagedwhentransportingthemachine.

Locked-Topreventtheupperstructurefromswinging,firstaligntheupperstructurewiththe carbody.Movethelevertotheforwardposition.

Unlocked-Toallowtheupperstructuretoswing,movethelevertotherearposition.

SwingLockpin

Apply-Topreventtheupperstructurefrombeingswungbyaload,pulltheleverupovercenter.

Release-Pushtheleverdowntoreleasethebrake.

Adjustment-Itshouldrequireafirmpulltosnapthehandleovercenter.Totightenthebrake, turntheknobclockwise.Toloosenthebrake,turntheknobcounterclockwise.

Ifthebrakecannotbeadjustedbythismethod,consultyourCaterpillardealer.

LoggerControls

ArmandSwingControl

Armout(1.)-Tomovethearmout,pushtheleverforward.

ArmIn(2.)-Tomovethearmin,pullthelevertotherear.

SwingLeft(3.)-Toswingtheupperstructuretotheleft,movethelevertotheleft.

SwingRight(4.)-Toswingtheupperstructuretotheright,movethelevertotheright.

ArmandSwingfunctionscanbeusedatthesametime.Forexample;tomovethearmoutand swingtotheright,movetheleverforwardandtotheright.

Theleverwillreturntothecentered(HOLD)positionwhenreleased.

Swingspeedisnotdecreased,whenusingotherhydrauliccontrols.

ShearTipandBoomControl

BoomLower(1.)-Tolowertheboom,pushtheleverforward.

BoomRaise(2.)-Toraisetheboom,pullthelevertotherear.

ShearTipRaise(3.)-Toraisethesheartip,movethelevertotheleft.

ShearTipLower(4.)-Tolowerthesheartip,movethelevertotheright.

BoomandShearTipfunctionscanbeusedatthesametime.Forexample;tolowertheboomand lowerthesheartip,pushtheleverforwardandtotheright.

Theleverwillreturntothecentered(HOLD)positionwhenreleased.

ShearBladeandGrappleControl

ShearBladesandGrappleClose(1.)-Toclosethegrappleandshearblades,depressthetrigger ontherighthandcontrollever.

ShearBladesandGrappleOpen(2.)-Toopenthegrappleandshearblades,depressthebutton ontopofthelever.

ShearHeadTiltControl

Depressthetriggeronthelefthandhydrauliccontrolleverforshearheadtiltcontrolfunctions. Movetheleverasindicatedbelow.

ShearHeadTiltLeft(1.)-Totilttheshearheadtotheleft,depressthetriggerandmovethe levertotheleft.

ShearHeadTiltRight(2.)-Totilttheshearheadtotheright,depressthetriggerandmovethe levertotheright.

BackhoeControls

StickandSwingControl

StickOut(1.)-Tomovethestickout,pushtheleverforward.

StickIn(2.)-Tomovethestickin,pullthelevertotherear.

SwingLeft(3.)-Toswingtheupperstructuretotheleft,movethelevertotheleft.

SwingRight(4.)-Toswingtheupperstructuretotheright,movethelevertotheright.

StickandSwingcontrolscanbeusedatthesametime.Forexample;tomovethestickoutand swingtotheright,movetheleverforwardandtotheright.

Theleverwillreturntothecentered(HOLD)positionwhenreleased.

Theuseofotherhydrauliccontrolswillnotslowswingspeed.

BoomandBucketControl

BoomLower(1.)-Tolowertheboom,pushtheleverforward.

BoomRaise(2.)-Toraisetheboom,pulltheleverback.

BucketClose(3.)-Toclosethebucket,movethelevertotheleft.

BucketDump(4.)-Todumpthebucket,movethelevertotheright.

TheBoomandBucketfunctionscanbeusedatthesametime.Forexample;tolowertheboom anddumpthebucket,pushtheleverforwardandtotheright.

Theleverwillreturntothecentered(HOLD)positionwhenreleased.
