QUALITREE THROUGH THE YEARS

Qualitree is founded by Gary Neels and Tony Van Oort on a small piece of rented land (10800 McGrath Road) with the construction of a 30’x100’ hoop greenhouse (purchased for $2,000 out of the classified ads of the Chilliwack Progress)

The business is Incorporated (July 16, 1996)

The first gutter-connect greenhouse is built (on rented land)

1994

Bill Neels (Gary’s father) joins the partnership

Bought the first 5 acres at 51546 Ferry Road and built 4, 30’ x100’ greenhouses

Started growing cut flowers at the new site — primarily Snapdragons

Thuja production continues at 10800 McGrath Road

Sold the first lavender plants: 361 plants sold in a 2 gallon pot size

Henk Rozendaal joins the partnership, adding his mechanical engineering background to the team

1999

We sell over 1 million plants in a calendar year for the very first time: 1,133,141 plants; over 11 genera

Sales of lavender climb to 272,980

Sell a total of 2,489,597 plants in 39 different genera

Gerrit Rozendaal joins the partnership, after working alongside the team for a year

Produce a total of 3,235,367 plants in 43 different genera

A re-brand project creates the black and white brand to signify trust and reliability. During the process, the partners are challenged to figure out “Who is Qualitree?” and what Qualitree should be known for; “Who should our customers be and which plants should we grow?” This deep examination leads to the European-style production, focused on fewer crops, but larger numbers, and an aim to target growers and wholesalers

Phase 1 of construction begins with the building of a warehouse, greenhouse, and water reservoir

Toby De Rover joins the partnership, after working at Qualitree for over 8 years

2017

Sold 2,066,308 lavender plants

As a result of the 2014 decision to focus on what we are best at, by 2019 we produce 7,944,089 plants in 12 select genera (31 less than grown just 5 years prior)

Stephanie Saccomano is named Young Grower of the Year by American Hort at Cultivate’20

Phase 3 of outdoor growing space construction is completed

In 1996, Qualitree incorporated as a small greenhouse project with a big dream: to grow exceptional plants and lasting partnerships. Thirty years later, those early days of planting, learning, and perseverance have grown into a thriving, innovative company serving growers and retailers across North America.

For our 30th anniversary, we’ve reunited the tree from our original logo with the modern Q wordmark. The tree reminds us of those early mornings, dirt under our nails, and the satisfaction of a job done right. The Q represents who we are today: a company built on experience, teamwork, and purpose. We’re bringing color back into our mark, just as we’ve brought vibrant, distinctive crops to life in our greenhouses. These visuals represent our story: past and present intertwined, growing stronger with time.
