THE PRESENT OF THE FUTURIST Metamorphosis has always been the greatest symbol of life and transformation for scientists, artists and poets. The moment when inelegance turns to beauty, death to life, pain to gain and from a caterpillar to a butterfly is called metamorphosis or the greatest miracle in nature. This phenomenon is just a replication of our lives. We are hemmed in by circumstances but coupled with dreams and aspirations which ruptures the chrysalis of troubles and struggles and helps us to be a beautiful butterfly marked by the emotions, dreams and hopes that it had to achieve ultimate success. Qatar Malayalam Gavels Club also goes through this marvellous process that meddles with time and capabilities so that one day we can fly and make our dreams the reality of the future. We have always had a vision; our members have had a dream which makes us look at the sky to one day expand our horizons as far as possible. The present is just the beginning of this great future which can only be achieved by hope and the finesse to be strong.

Dear Readers, It’s a great pleasure that our dream of launching our club newsletter is getting realized. Newsletter for our club was in my bucket list for quite some time, though the teething took a pretty long time, it has emerged out to be sturdy, stupendous and stunning. I owe a big thanks to our Club President Gavelier Jeslyn who took initiative in designing this wonderful newsletter for our club. The lamp is lit, and now it’s in the teams hand to spread the light. I am sure that our strong executive committee can take it ahead and release one more newsletter before the end of the term.
Aparna Ranish Gavel Counselor

“The
art of communication is the language of leadership” James Humes
Everyone wishes to be a leader. But where most of them fail is in the area of ‘COMMUNICATION’. Leadership is not communicating what we need but communicating what we can contribute. We all know the dictator Hitler and his dreadful holocaust. Apart from being a dictator, he was a powerful leader. What made this 5’9” man a great leader or what helped him to rise to power? The answer is simple – his communication skills. As a great orator he could easily reach the minds of people and was able to persuade them. This was the same in the case of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther king Jr, Abraham Lincoln and all leaders. The best time to start developing your communication skills is your youth. Gavel clubs provide you a platform to develop your communication and leadership skills. All Gaveliers who are a part of the gavels club all around the globe, has got a wonderful opportunity to develop their communication skills, which will surely help you in your life ahead. Taking a role in the meetings or a position in the ExCom helps us to understand the organization of the meetings and the club. Moreover it helps to enhance our leadership qualities. Dear Gaveliers, take advantage of this platform and actively participate in the meetings. By participating, you create a delightful experience for you as well as your fellow Gaveliers. So, sprightly take up the leadership roles which will help in your personal growth. Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them. So withoutmissing your opportunity, utilize the gavel platform.
As a Gavelier who joined shortly after the formation of the QMGC, I feel very proud to be part of our first newsletter as the immediate past president. I wish Qatar Malayalam Gavels Club (QMGC) and the new ExCom all the success. Parvathy Satheesan Immediate Past President

Have you ever felt before an exam or a test that you can`t remember any formula, equations, theorem, names or dates that you had studied? Your mind becomes blank, you can`t gather your thoughts, your legs are shaking, and all you want to do is run away? Or maybe you felt so terrified before an exam that you couldn't study properly or revise the concepts?
Krithika Kannan
This phobia is quite common and curable by the following ways:
If you answered ‘Yes’ to one or more of the above questions you might be suffering from exam phobia.
Develop good study habits. Chart out a time table including all the portions to be covered and time taken to cover each portion. Keep in mind to include buffer days in your timetable in case you cannot complete the portions.
Now, what is the meaning of phobia? Can you cure exam phobia?
Start studying ahead rather than studying in the last moment.
Make sure you practice as much as you can especially for subjects like Math and Physics. Working out on previous years papers will help you build the confidence as well as to get an insight on the pattern of the paper. Remember practise makes everyone perfect.
Exam phobia is a state of unnecessary worrying about upcoming tests/ exams. Exam phobia is difficult to be understood by a lot of parents, students and teachers.
Take adequate breaks while studying. You can indulge in your favorite hobbies, like sports, dancing, drawing, swimming or even watching movies.
In the examination hall, Read all the questions properly & then write. It is perfectly ok if you don’t know the answer for a few questions. Write whatever you know with full confidence and presence of mind.
Sleeping on time is necessary especially during exams. Take complete 6-8hours to sleep to avoid anxiety and tension. However, we must always keep in mind that marks are never a yardstick of our intelligence or identity. They are just irrelevant numbers. The most important thing is that we must understand the concepts well. Exam phobia is a self-damaging factor which negatively affects the students and their performances. Sincerity, regularity, concentration and time management will help overcoming Exam phobia.

I genuinely love books. In my life I’ve read so many books and I’ve learned something from each and every one of them. Sometimes, it’s the realization that I used to have god awful taste in books. It doesn’t matter though. There’s something about books that make me warm inside. This may sound a little weird but I love almost everything about books. I love the fact that there are new books every day and I’m so glad that imagination is endless because I never want to run out of books to read. I love the feel of the flipping the pages and the oddly calming smell of old books. They make me feel a spectrum of emotions and live through some experiences I would never be able to do in real life. Vellichor is the word that defines the strange wistfulness of a used bookshop; there is this unexplainable sort of peace in a library that I would never be able to feel anywhere else. Books have life in them and I truly love how each sentence, each word builds a universe where I become a different person as I live through the characters. I truly feel and experience the book because in each character living within the pages, I see a little bit of myself.

By now, you either think that I am a lonely weeb with only books as friends or that I “feel” the algebra equations in my math text book too (spoiler alert, I don’t. Call me biased but there is only a certain kind of books I enjoy). But this is just how I feel. Books tell stories and help us live through the life of an evil witch, a lonely teenager, a rich business man etc. It makes you understand people more with an open heart. They make you interested in things you didn’t know you liked. This one time, I had sworn off physics and education and planned out my life as tribal goddess but the next day I found myself surrounded by encyclopedias about Black holes, Nebulas, The unimaginably big universe felt small then, it was just wrapped up in the book I was holding in my hands. I feel like books get a bad reputation. For given reason, reading them seems like work because the entire reason our life was ruined (Math and science) was also tucked away in a book. For some of us, the last time we picked up a book, we were forced to read stories about things we didn’t care about at a time. The screens give a truckload of entertainment too.
9
I’m not saying that books are better than movies (well maybe I am) but movies never let you feel the thoughts, the emotions, and the mindset of the character like you were experiencing it yourself. You can’t feel the life, anticipation and adventure the same way. Read, read and read, it builds your character and gives you better insight on other people. It’s even likely that your own literary skills may improve. The more you read, the more you grow and the more treasures you uncover within the letters. Maybe it’ll help you to write these beauties yourself. I know that sometimes it just seems boring and reading just feels like a chore, don’t let that happen. Let yourself be surrounded by words, by stories, be sucked into a portal full of magical creatures, become a warrior, a widow, a father, a murderer, a toddler
Never stop reading. Anndria Jino

My journey with Qatar Malayalam Gavels Club (QMGC) begins from the day I had to quit from a speech competition. That was where I, fortunately, met our passionate gavel councilor, TM Aparna. And she was the one who introduced me to a new world of public speaking platform – Qatar Malayalam Gavels Club. Public speaking is an area where I am always very fascinated and try my best not to spare any opportunity I get. And so QMGC had provided me a lot of opportunities to enhance my speaking skills as well as my leadership skills . Prepared speeches were comparatively easier for me than table topic speeches. It was my sister who gave me the inspiration and courage for table topics. Her eagerly approaching techniques to the table topic sessions made in me a competition mind. QMGC has helped me a lot to pave the path for my speaking on feet skills, my gestures and voice modulation.
Parvathy Satheesan Immediate Past Presiden
QMGC has also given me numerous opportunities to represent our club in the inter gavels and division contests both as a participant and as an office bearer. Few of the proud moments of my journey where I could represent QMGC are
International speech contest of Inter Gavels contest 2016 at Olive International School.
International and table topics speech contest of the Inter Gavels speech contest 2017 at Birla Public School.
In the evaluation contest of the division H gavels contest 2018 at Shalimar Palace.
QMGC offered me a platform to develop my leadership qualities as well. From the time I joined QMGC I have been able to work on the growth of the club. I thank the gavel councilors, who gave me the opportunity to be the sergeant at Arms of the 2016-17 ExCom, who had full confidence on a new gavels. I also got the chance to become the vice president education for the next ExCom and I am nominated as current president of QMGC. That is one of the proud moment in my journey with QMGC. As the president and a gavelier who had joined shortly after the club had formed, I feel very proud and happy to see the growth of QMGC. We participated in many contests and have also grabbed prizes. We have now successfully completed more than 50 meetings. As gaveliers it is our duty to actively participate, productively use the platform and raise our club. I have full confidence that our club will reach greater heights with all the talented gaveliers.

When I joined Toastmasters, I had no clue that it would help me grow as much as I have. And to think I would enjoy so much when I did. It has been an amazing experience and has helped me in so many ways. I vividly remember my first speech. Standing there, by the stage was one of the most terrifying things I had done. I was really flustered and terror kept me from saying the simple speech I had learned so well I could recite it while sleeping. I would have done anything to never go back again but my dad was adamant and I ended up being a member. To me, speaking out loud was simply impossible. A superpower possessed by a few dauntless heroes that I thought I could never be a part of. But after a couple of meetings, things slowly began appearing in a different light. I gradually began to understand that every single person present there had been scared at one point too, that they too were like me. All those strangers that I was so afraid were going to mock me were people who were trying to bring a change into their lives.
It was wonderful to see people who had been petrified transform into ones brimming with confidence. That transformation took time but the results were still drastic. I too began to realize that I was changing too.

We all took down our fears one by one and I started looking forward to these meetings. I could learn something every Tuesday, experiences, fears, thoughts, ideas and valuable information. It morphed into a meeting with friends. I was so immersed in all the new knowledge I had been receiving, I forgot what I had been so afraid of in the first place. Taking different roles gave me satisfaction because while I helped others grow, I was growing myself. I still get flustered when I enter the stage but now I go there with the confidence that I am addressing a topic I am passionate about and with the realization the others listening would never ever judge me because gavels club was a place for development. A place where learning became fun. A place full of my friends Gavels club has done nothing but good for me and I have changed a lot for the better. It has taught me so many things and I will continue to learn, to grow and to overcome. Although I realize that public speaking is not a superpower and anyone can do it, I’m proud to say that I too am a hero along with every single one of my fellow gaveliers.

“This is going to be my last day to this club” grumbled me to my mom who was busy with her household chores. She was oblivious of what I was going through… for she snapped back, “I really wish you had a choice”. That was the evening scenario at my house on my very first day to Gavels. I fumed, felt lost and helpless…for I never wanted to go to a place for improving my speaking skills… I detested that….How I wish I had the ability to foresee what an exemplary change I am going to perceive. As I reached the venue, I could feel my throat tightening and my mouth getting dried up. The meeting started very formally but in a very positive and hospitable atmosphere. I was asked to introduce myself to which I somehow mumbled my name, school and grade in the lowest tone possible. As I sat through the meeting, I could feel myself getting comfortable as each and every minute thing was handled by the children there…be it speeches, evaluation, table topics, initiating, conducting and closing the meeting. I loved the way the evaluation was being done. I was impressed by how the evaluators motivated the speakers by giving a thunderous applause and tactfully used the sandwich technique to make each speech, a great one. Even today, I look forward for the evaluation session at Gavels whether I am being evaluated or not. The feeling that the evaluators give the speakers are priceless. I have learnt to use this sandwich technique not only at Gavels but also in my dealings with my friends and parents. I can now sense a positive approach in myself even towards things I once disliked. The prepared speech sessions at Gavels has sharpened my writing skills along with reducing my stage fear. My vocabulary has definitely improved with innumerable draft versions I make for my speeches. Finesse Futurist
I still remember that for my first speech, as I walked towards the stage, I could feel my heart in my mouth and my mind was comKRITHIKA KANNAN pletely blank. But when I completed my speech I felt a sense of satisfaction and confidence level has definitely gone up. I have completed 5 prepared speeches so far, still I suffer from the dreadful stage fear only that the intensity has reduced. I now understand that it’s completely normal to make mistakes and they pave a way for your success. The session I still dread the most is the table topics where our impromptu skills are being put to test. I feel I have a long way to go here as I always feel dumb and completely lost during this session. Well, that’s the arena of my improvement. My 10 month journey at Gavels has helped me a lot in school too. Earlier, I never enrolled myself for elocutions or Just-AMinute or debates as I was skeptical of my speaking skills. But now, I have participated in Inter house elocution and debate and the experience was priceless. I have even given my audition for Qatar Debate. My parents and teachers are very happy and they appreciate my progress. I would like to give a special mention to Aparna ma’am who is our counselor at Gavels. She is very approachable, guides and mentors us like her own children. QMGC owes a lot to her. Thank you so much Aparna ma’am. I would also like to thank my parents for the initiative and interest they take in sending me to Gavels. Krithika Kannan VPE—QMGC

“As
a kid I always used to dream standing on a stage and speaking in front of many people in a big conference room. When my mom told me that she had enrolled in Gavels Club I was very much excited. When I first entered the room I was amazed because it was the same way as I imagined. I was thrilled with the prepared speakers! I often used to wonder how could they learn all this and from where they got all this information. Then came the Table Topic segment. I wondered what is this segment and later the table topic master explained it to me. After two or three speakers Aparna Maa’m called me to speak. I was afraid if I said something wrong then what would happen? After a while I got some confidence and with support of all gaveliers and toast masters I went up to stage and picked the topic “What was my most memorable childhood memory?” I had so much stage fear I uttered something which was not at all connected to the topic: but still I said something.

Many days, weeks and meetings passed by. I gave few speeches and took up various roles. After a long time I understood why Gavels Club was important. It helped me in developing self-confidence which gave me courage to give answers and talk in class. The Gavels also helped me in developing leadership skills which made me the class monitor and student council member. It has also helped me in my English speaking, writing and grammar. It has also helped me in my listening skills and also speaking on my behalf. The most important of Gavels Club in my life is that it taught me to write a speech on my own. I thank all the gaveliers, parents, mentors and toastmasters for all their support and trust and I look forward to great experience ahead. Rochelle D’Souza

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” rightly said by Confucius, a Chinese philosopher. Qatar Malayalam Gavels Club has played a pivotal role in my life. I have been in gavels club for the past two years and it has boosted my confidence slowly. It has changed the way I look at public speaking, be it prepared speeches, impromptu or evaluation. It has immensely boosted my confidence and quality of speech, often providing me with a great platform to showcase my skills. It has also been an amazing learning experience furnishing me an opportunity to learn from the fellow Gaveliers. It has instilled in me a sense of responsibility due to which I have definitely learned how to connect with my fellow Gaveliers and accept ideas while in a group. Qatar Malayalam Gavels Club provides and creates better communicators and leaders of tomorrow. The things I am weak at, like impromptu and evaluation, I
At this point in time, I gratefully acknowledge the support and help given to me by our mentors TM Aparna Ranish and TM Hameed. This club has taught me how to: • Gain confidence to express myself as a speaker, presenter, Master of ceremony and a leader. • Learn how to use eye contact, gestures, vocal variety and visual aids effectively. • Improve listening, thinking, speaking skills to answer impromptu questions. • Knew the value of friendship and team management.

A champion is defined not by their wins, but by how they can recover when they fall. That is why I joined Qatar Malayalam Gavels Club. Since the day one of my club, the atmosphere of my club has been warm and welcoming. In our club we pursue each other to never stop trying and work hard to reach our destination. I joined gavels club not to show that I am a champion but rather to recover myself in the straight path when I fall. My gavels club has taught me to handle challenging situations, polish off my stage fear, fortify my speaking ability, build up my vocabulary and enhance my actions on the stage. I have learned that we should wear our failures as a badge of honour. I also learned that failure is the stepping stone to success. In our club, we experience a blend of all emotions. I remember a time when I tried drinking tea and water at the same time. That really made everyone laugh. Isn’t it nice to see the sense of happiness a person feels when you narrate your life experiences. In our club we show both empathy and sympathy. In other words, I feel that my club is like my second home. I think most of my fellow gaveliers knows about my life experiences as I share them in my speeches. They know that I have shaved my eyebrows when I was small, refused to drink milk and also poured it down the sink and in another incident I got injured with multiple stitches for my misbehaviour. I have failed in expressing in my speeches and that is when I learned that we have to fight through some days to earn the best of our lives. It has been 2years since I have joined this marvellous club. I would like to thank all my fellow gaveliers, friends, and parents, especially TM Aparna Ranish, TM Hameed and TM Sajna Mansoor for helping me realize my potential and strengthen my weak spots. Looking back, I have experienced many ups and downs in my club and that’s what helped me to be me in my life.

When I first came to the Qatar Malayalam gavels club I was very shy. The first speech I heard was Amina’s speech. Her speech was humorous which inspired me to write humorous speech’s so that I could catch the audience’s attention. I heard so many wonderful speeches of different gaveliers which was so wonderful.
After 1 month I did my ice breaker, that day I understood what was my problems through the evaluation. They told that I was nervous; voice modulation was needed and I should be more confident. They told my speech was humorous. After that I did my p2 but had the same problem. I realised my problem that day. After some months I had a speaking skill test in English. I wrote a speech and I noted my problems and I got full marks. In the next meeting I was doing my p3. I understood that to catch the audience’s attention I should add some humour and some suspense. So my next speeches title was ‘We can’t live without it’. It was about food and the type of food eaters. That day they told I was the best speaker which I never expected. Later for the first time I got a prize in a speech contest. Even my parents were surprised because they never expected that I would present a speech in front of people who I barely know; they didn’t expect that I would change from a shy boy to a person who is able to present speeches in front a large crowd. QMGC helped me in improving my speaking skills and before I couldn’t speak confidently to people but QMGC helped me in improving it. QMGC developed me and they will help me in getting to higher levels. Jeffin Varghese Finesse Futurist

After joining QMGC I have got a lot of changes in my speaking skills. The way in which I joined the gavels club was unplanned. My sister was a member of Qatar Malayalam gavels club used to attend the meetings. My sister used to constantly ask me to join QMGC but I was always unwilling to join. But one day I and my father had gone to witness my sister’s speech and then during the table topic session I got a chance to speak. Surprisingly at the end of the meeting I was awarded the best table topic speaker. That is when I decided that this would be the beginning of my journey with QMGC. Since then my favourite session has been table topics .it is the best session in a meeting. Especially when the topics are so funny. Sometimes when we feel tired from coming back from school, we get energized during the meeting. I could develop my grammar on coming to these meetings. And I could also reduce stammering in between my speeches which I felt as a very good betterment. While joining and coming for a meeting we get to know and mingle with many people. This is a plus point of the gavels club You will really get to know what friendship is if you are in a gavels club. My friends in the gavels club have helped me a lot in my speeches. My inspiration and my role model is my sister. She has been an inspiration for me to join the gavels club. She has helped me to correct my mistakes in everything. I love coming to the gavels club and I am sure that I will continue coming for all the meetings.

Our club is very interesting and also humorous. Every meeting has an interesting theme and a wonderful new word. The theme helps me to discover about new things and the word helps me improve my vocabulary skills. The most curious moment in the meeting is when the awards are distributed to the best speakers and evaluator.
In the future our club will be giving awards for the best role player so that each role player will develop their skills. Our club is also coming up with new roles such as joke Master, quiz Master etc to make the meetings more fun. This club helps my communication, publish speaking and leadership skills. It also helps me to overcome my nervousness while speaking before an audience, increases my self-confidence as I become a better speaker, helps me to improve my abilities such as communicating effectively, encourage me to listen analytically, provides me instructions, educational materials and the opportunities which will gain me with skills, provide me with fair and constructive evaluation and also it helps my youth to face the problems of public speaking in my future. Using agenda was a waste of paper, so our senior toastmasters thought of not using agenda, but using projector instead. This instance taught me a lesson for not wasting paper. All the meetings were very enjoyable and remarkable, all the members of this club are very active and excellent and all the sessions are interesting and outstanding. When we combine all these together, it makes this club unique. All the evaluation sessions of this club provides honest reaction in a constructive manner to the person's effort. All the members are very energetic and they are ready to take up roles for the coming meetings as it shows the confidence of the member. This club also helps me to improve my personality skills, such as vocab building, travelogues, writing diary and also regular reading. Over the course of your life many things, such as your environment and the people around you, have a role in shaping the person you become. I will forever be grateful to a close friend of mine who graciously invited me to join gavels club. Gavels club is an environment that helps develop communication and leadership skills that are not a primary focus in school. QMGC has challenged me in different ways, all of which helped me improve my speaking, listening and time management skills. Prepared speeches taught me how to write speeches on my own and organize them in such a way that the audience can follow along and understand my message with clarity, without being confused. It also helped me build my confidence for speaking in front of a crowd because slowly but surely, I was getting more comfortable being on stage, and speaking to an audience felt more natural. Table topics usually ended up being the highlight of the meeting with all the fun and creative topics that taught me to be more spontaneous on stage. The evaluation session gave me a chance to improve my listening skills and taught me how to encourage and give tips for improvement without demotivating the speaker. Receiving feedback on my own speeches were very helpful as I understood my strengths and points for improvement. This club is a very safe and supportive environment where each person strives to improve and encourage each other along the way. I have met wonderful people and made friends who have helped me grow and improve myself. The mentors there do incredible work and they help each gavelier reach their full potential. Overall it is an exhilarating experience that made me the confident person I am today. Anna George

My gavels club journey has been truly a great one. Today when I’m writing this I remember my first day at Qatar Malayalam gavels club as a guest, when I felt that I was entering into a new world filled with speeches and evaluations. Gavels club really helped to improve myself in most of the areas of life. For me it was like a torch light which I could use in my search for perfection and improvement. Frankly speaking i was a person who felt that public speaking was only with mouth. But from here I came to know that it included many thinks from legs to eyes. Another lesson gavels club taught me was perseverance. I failed three times before my first victory. This victory was not only because of my perseverance but also because of my parents and the support by the counsellor who never lost hope in me. Truly speaking, all of us were like family. We never felt any hesitation to tell anything to our counsellors. Actually we call them uncle and aunty because all of them are really close to our heart. This club really turns all of us who were coal to real diamonds. They always give us the best of things. The best training, the best friends and the best food. Amina Bint Yoonus

“
WE ONLY REALIZE THE IMPORTANT OF OUR VOICE WHEN WE ARE SILENCED” MALALA YOUSAFAZI
I felt nervous when on stage and I felt shy when speaking in front of many people. So my mom advised me to join Qatar Malayalam gavels club. There are actually several Gavels clubs in Doha, but she sends me to this gavels as she was the counsellor and could control me now and then. I didn’t know what to expect with Gavels since I didn’t know much about it. But little did I know that there would be a whole lot improvement in me. The meeting was very casual, and everyone was very gracious and welcoming me and the other new visitors. The meeting consisted of an explanation of the time limits for speeches and how to present them. Learning public speaking is important, and Gavels can help us with that. At a minimum level, it gives you practice in developing speeches and presenting them. I had to work hard and train and now I have confidence give a speech in front of millions. No wonder!! Gavels and my mom has availed me to prosper not only as a good speaker but as a good leader too. I was usually scared at the thought of being picked in class the for delivering a speech in the assembly, I tried to get away from it as possible but as soon as I joined gavels this changed and instead of a teacher calling out I volunteered. It was never my dream to be a part of a public speaking group. In fact, public speaking had always felt more like a nightmare. But with the continuous motivation and competition in gavels, I am what I am today. Abhinav Ranish Asst VPE

Its been 4 months and I have already started seeing the results. Hi there! I am Ilhan Minhas Abutty and I'm studiying in Grade-6. I have been told to write an essay about my experience at QMGC. It has been wonderful, to say the least. Let me share my experience with each category of the meeting. The prepared speech session is an excellent part of this meeting. We get to know many variety of topics. Many stories. Many ideas. It always a very wonderful session. I can group this session as an educational and funny session. To be honest, my favourite session is the Break. Afte a long day of school, madrassa or tutions, we come to the Gavel's meet completely drained. Aparna ma'm, the snacks are a real energy booster. Keep changing the menu! Brrp! The session I am afraid of the most is the table-topics segment. You get nervous to go to the stage and then mumble whatever comes in your mouth. You might be expecting for a particular topic and you get something else. But anyway, I like this session because it slowly like a snail removes our stage-fright and gifts us confidence and spontaniety. Ilhan Minhasabdutty

I am Hania Abdulla & I would like to share my experience in the Gavels Club. My mom joined a toastmasters club last year and she would tell us about the activities in her club. I found it quite interesting and asked her if I could join her club. It was after that I heard of gavels club for the young and I was so excited. I was waiting for the day to come, Tuesday.
At first, I went as a guest and introduced myself. I also listened to the speeches, the table topic speeches, the evaluations and the most interesting part, the voting. We voted for the best speaker, the best table topic speaker and the best evaluator. There was also a word for the day. My first experience was one of the best experiences I had. In the second gavels meeting, I was a time keeper. I thought being a time keeper it would be impossible for me to listen to the speeches properly. Fortunately I had no problem doing both at the same time.
In the meetings that followed, I became Gavelier of the day, the grammarian, ahcounter and also I did my P1 & P2 speeches. In my first speech I even dropped a few points I wanted to say, but you wouldn’t believe I was voted as the best speaker. It made me very happy even though there were only 3 speakers and one of them had not qualified. After my P2 speech my father told me that I had improved. I was so happy to hear that. Gaveliers club activities have also helped me develop my listening and speaking skills. Now a days I am always waiting for Tuesdays. I am so happy that I became a member of this club. Thank you to those who are part of this club and I hope everyone would want to join this club. Thank you and have a good day.

The Rose It all starts with a seed To me it looks like a tiny bead , Its due to our greed we don't plant it, We don't even care a bit...
But there comes an angel to plant it, And care for it more than a bit... Just because of the angel the world has lit... And up it goes and forms a kit of beauty
I come in all sizes and colors Ask me any color I will grow into that... But I just love to grow as red As I bloom ,the flower bed too blooms..
You put me in your hands , You take my petals and put it on beds, You take me & make rose water for your dishes, You decorate the fish tank for your little fishes
But alas! Does nobody care ? For its not very fair! I give you so much , Can't you just a seed and care a bit ?! Rochelle D’Souza

The arrival of the foes, Makes nature stand on its toes They marched here and there, Spreading chaos everywhere!
One turn left, one turn right The bushes go out of sight. Oh! For goodness sake, Please give it a break. Trees uprooted, Nature is looted. Mother Earth awakens, A mighty step it takes To make the foes dread,
To reach the doors of death. JANVI RANISH

Procrastinator? Me? No. I just wait until the last second to do my work because I will be older, therefore wiser Do you know what procrastination is? Never mind, I’m going to tell you anyway. Procrastination is the art of delaying or postponing something. But I don’t think that’s the full meaning. Delaying something can also be due to prioritization or due to the special circumstances that require you to postpone it. Procrastination on the other hand, is delaying or postponing things you must get done right now. Here’s an example to make you understand it a bit more. [Photo caption]

Remember those scenes in movies where a character is being attacked from every direction, but they keep on fighting till the end? Deep down inside you know that this is the end, but their persistence gives you a tiny shred of hope. That’s what I looked like on the day before a huge assignment was due. I had a whole week to complete this project, but lo and behold there I was on that Saturday night trying to decide what the first word of my essay should be. I’d tried to start it on Tuesday, but I wasn’t that motivated. On Thursday, I tried again, but it turned out my desk was too messy to work on, so I had to clean it…and my room…and the whole house. And for the first time, I watered the plants and did the laundry without being asked to. So basically, I was very busy in doing things I don’t need to do in order to avoid doing anything I was supposed to be doing.
Procrastination is your worst enemy. Its that little voice inside your head that screams “HAVE FUN!! WORK LATER!!” As a result, I will wait until the last possible minute to do my work. In most cases I’ll get the task done somehow, someway. Maybe it wasn’t done to the best of my ability, but I still got it done. Am I disappointed in my work? Yes. Will I stop procrastinating? Probably not. If you think procrastination is the same as laziness, surprise!! You’re wrong. Procrastination is putting off a task for later while laziness is doing nothing at all. When you are procrastinating, you intend to finish the task…just not right now. But when you’re being lazy, you have no intention of finishing the task.

Also, when I realize that a deadline is quite near, I enter panic mode and start doing things so fast that it’s unbelievable. I start doing everything in a last-minute induced panic. This is what my parents like to call “crisis management”. Procrastination has taught me to do 30 minutes of work in 8 hours and 8 hours of work in 30 minutes. But if procrastination leads to so much stress, why do we still do it? There could be 2 reasons for this. You love the rush of adrenaline when you do things last-minute. You think you only do well when you’re under pressure. This is the case with me. You’re anxious to start your work. You’re scared that even after you put in effort, you’ll still fail. So “if you havent started yet, you haven't failed yet” right? Yeah not really.
Now comes the biggest question, how do you stop procrastinating? Well, I’m the wrong person to ask this question because I put the “pro” in procrastinating. But I can share a few things I’ve learned along the way. So, let’s say that I’ve been given that same assignment as before. How do I get it done on time without pulling an all nighter? First off, I should break the project into smaller pieces so that they are easier to manage. Then I can set a deadline for myself on when to get this done. But who is going to hold me accountable? I know that I’ll do a very bad job at it. So, the next best thing to do, is to tell a friend or family member about it so that they can keep you on the right track. And at the end of each task give yourself a fitting reward as motivation to keep going further. So by following these 3 steps: 1. Break the task into smaller pieces, 2. Hold yourself accountable and 3. Reward yourself, you can easily break away from this bad habit of procrastination. Think of something you’ve been wanting to do for a long time but have never gotten around to. I want you to take a second and look deep inside yourself. Do you really want to accomplish this task? Are you willing to work your absolute hardest for it? Are you willing to acknowledge that your hardest isn't your hardest and then work even harder than that? If the answer is yes, grab a calendar and set a deadline. Anna George

Value of Books Which is the storehouse of knowledge? Yes its books. Books are the best friend for everyone to be with. What if there were no books in this world? We wouldn’t get knowledge and our wisdom wouldn’t improve.
Books have been written on various topics. These are religious books, story books and encyclopaedias. Books are appealed to various ages. Books improve our imagination and memory power. Now in this present world no one is reading and everyone is using electronic media which are no match for books. To encourage reading 23rd April is celebrated as world reading day. This day is Celebrated for authors, illustrators, poets and reading books. 23rd April is chosen as world reading day because it is the day in which famous poets and authors such as William Shakespeare and William Wordsworth died. The world would come to an end without the knowledge of books. We must encourage this new world to read books. We should give thanks to authors like J.K Rowling, Ruskin Bonds, Enid Blyton and Arthur Conon Doyle for their works. Reading helps in nurturing the mind. We should encourage people to read books as it is a form of books which gives us knowledge. Reading is the best way to spend leisure time.

My First
Day at Gavels
I was in search of a platform where I could improve my speaking skills and leadership qualities. I had done some public speaking and used to participate in speaking competitions, but I still felt that I could use some more training. I heard about Gavel’s club at first through a Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) held by Toastmaster’s in my school. Ever since then I wanted to be a part of it. My parents supported my plan and asked me to join. So in November 2018, for the first time I attended a Gavel’s meeting. Toastmasters is an organization whose goal is to make its members better public speakers. By joining a group of people who are, like you, looking to improve their communications skills, you will have the opportunity to practice speaking in front of other people in a supportive environment. It promotes enhancement in leadership potential, endorse human understanding and contribute to the improvement of mankind. Right when I sat down after I walked in to attend my first meeting I had to stand up and say my name and why I joined the group. It was a fun experience. I thought Gavel’s was going to be this very serious group of people who took everything very stern , instead I was surprised to find the meeting very relaxed, the speakers were making jokes and everyone was having a good time. Later during the meeting, I was asked to go to the stage at give an impromptu speech. I was asked to speak for 2 minutes. This was a completely new thing for me. Those 2 minutes felt like an entire hour for me. I didn’t know want to do, I was shivering inside. But somehow I managed to speak for one and a half minute. That was a great achievement for me. I didn’t deliver a great speech. But ever since then, I started practicing for such speeches at home and watched videos about tips on impromptu speaking. What seemed extremely hard is now quite easy for me. Today I have extreme privilege in representing my club (QMGC) in the inter-district competition for Table topics (Impromptu speaking). I think this is the best way to get rid of the fear of public speaking. And at the same time it also gives you an incentive to learn new words, learn how to express yourself in a better way, learn how to become fluent. And above all it is a learning experience and at the same time having fun. Today I love to go to Gavel’s meetings as all these meetings teach you something new. Toastmasters is an incredible organization. Definitely something that every person who desires growth in life should check out. Aakash Paul

The Story of a ROBOT A robot is a machine that can perform complicated series of actions automatically. I am Ken ‘chi, a Japanese robot who could do any work a human could do. I was built in Tokyo by a group of people working for Govt. of Japan, then sold to US car factory Ford. I used to work for my company very faithfully. I knew that the US, for safety reason, reset me before my day one at Ford. What prompted the reset was perhaps at the back of their mind they knew that the atom bomb on Nagasaki is not a forgotten catastrophe. I knew I was born in Japan as I stumbled upon a data in my erased memory lane. I work 24*7 without stop as I used solar technology with wireless charging. I could repair myself without needing the help of a mechanic unless my motherboard was destroyed. There’s a remote chance of it, as the motherboard was very small located in my head which was thoroughly protected. I used to assemble about 8-10 cars per day. The main reason why I was happy was that the humans were happily riding the cars I assembled. I was born to make faster than any human can. Like humans, I too should bid adieu from this world. The Japanese had put an atomic time bomb in me. This bomb was even deadlier than the atom bomb on Nagasaki. When US reset me the timing setting got changed to default. I blew up 6 years later burning and blasting the entire town of New York, Fortunately, my head separated before the blast. This bomb was so concealed that when I was alive I didn't even know it was in me. I was supposed to blast in one year, according to the research of my body which the secret service did after I blew up. I felt sad for the people who died because of me. Even though my head was very strong I was on the verge to break. That’s when I discovered about the bomb in me was a part of my body. Without the body, I knew I could only live for a few months.US decided to have a war,

which the United Nations opposed. No one supported the US as they were the trouble creators in Nagasaki bomb but they didn't support Japan as they repeated the same mistake. No one tried to stop the war as they didn't want to get involved. This tiny war between the two main powers took only days. The US again filled planes with atomic bombs. These planes were destined for Japan but a multi-pronged missile from japan devastated all the plane before they took off. The U.S. a great superpower was almost brought down to ashes. US military used their last resources to destroy Japans strongest military base. Just around 30 to 40 states were motionless. These explosions were creating damage to my health. I no longer was able to contact Google for live information. My only hope was the news which was located far away from the US and Japan. My chip was on the verge of breaking. Then I decided to write my autobiography. So that none ever trust to take anything from any country anymore without a thorough scan. Many countries merged including the US and Japan. The population was less in number around 200million people died and 50million are suffering from radiation. I have time to tell you one more secret that I can print anything data at any time retrieving from my chip. So here I am dying while my amazing chip is using it last energy to print the document that u are reading as an amazing book. I also uploaded it to my friend’s blog. Dream Come True Moment Life is full of various events and experiences, but all of these are not equally important, enjoyable and memorable. 2019 was one such year for me. An unforgettable incident of my life . That moment when i was found myself standing on stage receiving the best actor award from Superstar Dulqur Salman . It was for a competition held by media one ,a monodrama competition. When i got to know about the competition through various advertisements I was very excited about participating in this and winning this just to receive an award from my favorite actor Dulqur Salman. The Contest was held in 2 stages, semifinal and finals. My semifinals went well and i got qualified for the finals. Finals was tough because all the five students who got selected were equally good. I was overjoyed at my selection and worked harder to achieve my goal of being the best actor. And finally that day came. The most awaited day of my life. I performed by best on stage. It was an inch to inch competition as all the performers did their best. I really didn't have much hope on my dreams getting realized , still dreamt about receiving the best actor award from the star celebrity. The next day at a great event witnessed by 20,000 audience the result was announced, and i was surprised to hear my name being announced as the winner. The dream come true moment , which I will never forget in life time. I thanked the almighty for his grace and felt elated when my mom proudly declared that this award is the result of my hard work.
