Project Introduction

This landscape project is located in Redwood, California, on a sloped site of approximately 15,000 sqft. Responding to the client’s aesthetic and functional needs, the design uses retaining walls to create terraced spaces, forming a sequence of small themed courtyards with clear circulation. The entry landscape features a California desert-style planting palette to define the boundary and enhance arrival experience.

The first level includes two added structures—one private and detached, the other connected to the main courtyard. The second level offers a meditative water garden, a playful wild-style retreat, and a central viewing garden. The third level, adjacent to the main house, features a Bocce court. Gravel paving, wood furnishings, layered planting beds, and pocket gardens at corners enrich the spatial experience. Drought-tolerant, low-maintenance plants are selected to suit the California 10a climate zone and ensure long-term sustainability.

Project Introduction

This project located in San Jose, this 2,300 sqft residential landscape project was developed in close coordination with the client to balance aesthetic preferences and functional needs. The front yard was designed as a drought-tolerant garden eligible for California’s rebate program, while the backyard emphasizes a clean, serene, and Zen-inspired atmosphere. One side of the yard features a rose garden and synthetic lawn, with step stones providing a transitional path throughout the space.

The design also includes two wooden decks—one extending from the living room for social use, and a more private one adjacent to the master bedroom for quiet retreat. To address drainage challenges caused by elevation differences with the neighboring property, a central French drain was integrated into the layout to ensure proper water management.
