Optical link requirement refects broader trend
for increased
use of fbre optic technologies in high voltage applications
OMC, a pioneer in the design & manufacture of industrial fbre-optic datalinks and optical cable assemblies, recently completed production of a major optical link requirement for a leading energy distribution company. As the pace of electrifcation accelerates, OMC has noted that demand for fbre optic technologies is rising rapidly, particularly in high voltage (HV) applications – and the company continues to optimise its production to ensure it keeps pace. This has included the introduction of cobots to assist with labour-intensive repetitive and time-consuming tasks, increasing throughput and capacity up to 10x, while crucially maintaining quality and ensuring consistency.
Dpressure on lead times and cost
irect Insight can now deliver and support development for the new QSMP-20 solder-down QFN-style SoM (system-on-module), providing a drop-in, pin-compatible upgrade for the QSMP-15 that now features an industrial-grade STM32MP2 MPU. The QSMP-20 also takes advantage of lower cost DDR3 RAM with shorter lead times to avoid the ongoing pressure on DDR4 and DDR5 memory supply, driven by demand from AI infrastructure.

MIL-HD2 connector series from Amphenol now available through Powell Electronics
Now available through Powell Electronics is the MIL-HD2 connector series from Amphenol, a next-generation, SOSAaligned solution engineered to meet the most demanding requirements of modern military embedded systems, e.g. embedded computing, radar, electronic warfare, and high-speed communications systems.
Designed in alignment with The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) technical standard and supporting VITA 91 requirements, the MIL-HD2 series delivers industry-leading density and performance for 3U applications. Supporting data rates up to 56Gb/s PAM4, the connector family enables system architects to address increasing bandwidth demands while maintaining compatibility with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) architectures and avoiding costly redesign cycles.
The MIL-HD2 series has been developed to support next-generation switch and payload card designs, where tighter card pitches and reduced chassis footprints are critical.

Panasonic Industry Europe is introducing the new FX-250 digital fbre sensor designed to support users in their daily working routines as effectively as possible.
The FX-250 offers a large, high-contrast OLED display providing excellent readability and shows not only numerical values, but also fully written text. This makes menu navigation intuitive and signifcantly reduces the risk of operating errors, especially for less experienced users or teams working in shifts. As a result, settings can be checked and adjusted quickly even from a distance, helping reduce set-up time and machine downtime.
A particularly practical feature is the new two-step limit teaching, which no longer requires manual adjustment of the emitted light. By simply pressing a button twice, the sensor reliably learns the switching threshold—even under challenging lighting conditions such as refections or incident light saturation.
“The rapid boom of AI technology is sending shockwaves through the semiconductor memory market,” observes David Pashley, co-founder & Managing Director at Direct Insight. “Skyrocketing demand is ramping up pressure on high performance DDR5 and even DDR4, with prices and lead times spiralling as inventory is bought up and production is shifted to higher-margin high-bandwidth memory. But the QSMP-20 utilises cost-effective, higher availability DDR3L RAM, helping sidestep ongoing AI-driven lead time and supply issues.”

Pickering launches Test System Architect
Pickering Interfaces, the leading supplier of modular signal switching and simulation solutions for use in electronic test and verifcation, has announced Test System Architect, a free online graphical toolset designed to simplify signal path design for electronic test systems, allowing engineers to design, confgure, and visualise complete test architectures before deployment.
“Pickering is already recognized as the value leader in PXI. But hardware typically represents less than half of the total cost of an automated test system,” explains Kyle Voosen, Product Marketing Manager at Pickering. “The greater challenge for our customers lies in the engineering, integration, and assembly effort required to deliver those systems into production. Test System Architect directly addresses this challenge by making the signal path explicit and architecturally visible earlier in the design process, resulting in faster system development, fewer integration errors, and a more predictable deployment schedule.” www.pickeringtest.com
Pickering guide highlights the benefts of reed relays in mining power and signal switching
Pickering Electronics has released a new application guide for engineers designing power and sensing systems for harsh mining environments. The guide, titled: ‘Reed Relays: The Logical Choice for Power & Signal Switching in Mining Applications’, explains why reed relays are well suited to high- and low-voltage switching and sensing applications where reliability, accuracy and low power consumption are critical. As mining operations become increasingly electrifed, switching, monitoring and control circuits are being asked to do more than ever before. Power must be distributed safely and effciently across systems such as conveyor belts, pumps, ventilation equipment and electricallypowered drills, while sensing and monitoring systems must continue to deliver accurate, repeatable measurements in challenging operating conditions. At the same time, higher voltages are increasingly being used to reduce power losses and improve effciency.
