The Future of the Lucerne Valley Rangers
by Rochelle DuBoise, Crystal Castle
The Lucerne Valley Middle/High School’s new ROTC program has had a successful start this school year. Having two NCOs, SGT Evan Herriman and SGT Rochelle DuBoise, already in the program is allowing it to prosper and become strong for the future. The new commandant, Staff Sergeant Jacob Klinger, has made it his duty to teach the students about military history as well as military customs and services. Recently, students involved in the program worked together to put a student-led color guard together for the homecoming football game. The color guard was led by the two NCOs; the team consisted of Sergeant Rochelle DuBoise, Sergeant Evan Herriman, Private First Class Deigo Juarez, Private First Class Crystal Castle, and Private Ashlyn McTiernan. For the national anthem the color guard marched onto the field and presented the colors with the California and American flags. Their S-5, Ashlyn McTiernan, was able to capture many photos of the event as well as the color guard. The future of the program looks bright as students continue to learn to work together and engage in team-building activities.
