Todd was the national announcer for years, but his roots with BMX Canada ran much deeper. Todd is a former President of the BC Canadian National Group and spent many years volunteering with Squamish BMX.

FULL HOUSE FOR FRIER?: With two amateur and two Superclass titles in hand, Zach Frier is gunning for a full house of National trophies, and went wire-to-wire for the Day One win. Lucas Zhou rode shotgun and then took Day Two in Men’s Superclass action.

NEXT GEN IS NOW: LoganLee leads Keira Murphy on Superclass Women’s action. Logan rode shotgun to Tiffany Brosius on Friday and then took the win Saturday and with that, the early season points lead.

The Fraser Valley Nationals successfully kicked off the 2026 BMX Canada National Series at Chilliwack Heritage Park (affectionately known as the “Red Barn”) in Chilliwack, BC. An early dry spell across the province allowed riders to get up to speed sooner and that pushed the moto count to 129, the largest turnout since the pre-covid years.

The first National of the season gives riders a chance to show off their new rides and the new Supercross Canada team was in full effect while Fly Racing Canada looked sharp in their new blue and yellow colours. Inside Line, the legendary team from the Northwest that terrorized tracks in the 80’s and 90’s, is making a comeback and their squad was in full flight throughout the weekend.

Billy Allen, USA BMX’s longtime track wizard, and his trusty crew whipped up yet another exciting track. A trend that has seen them make the most of the small indoor footprint and once again, the big double on the second straight became the centerpiece of passes, crashes, and big-air smashes.

The toughest class of the weekend was 13 Expert boys who had 25 riders. You had to make it through quarters and semi’s before even setting foot on the gate

ELBOWS UP: If these two were in a hockey rink, maybe the gloves would have come off. Brady Mitschke and Connor Brereton-Stiles were in a race of their own and literally after the dust had settled, the final score was Brady two, Connor one. But the series is far from over.

COMING TOGETHER:

That moment when you get to witness the benefits of preparation. A shared moment with your coach, parent or mentor for the final. Abbotsford’s Nicholas Nassachuk was the most consistent Canadian, earning a trio of fourths, but North Shore’s Ryder Furst was the only Canadian to reach the podium, earning a pair of thirds on Friday and Saturday.

The new Track vs. Track club competition rewards local tracks for promoting the series to their Novice and Intermediate riders, and that helped Langley BMX pull out the overall win from the three days combined. Langley’s Bodie Brown and Greyson Coon helped their club’s cause by dominating the 9 Intermediate class, while Sea-Tac had a strong showing thanks to the likes of Geo Tanakas and Samuel Kromer who won the 5 and 6 Intermediate classes. validates it all. Tyrone and Kyla Thompson are living proof.

OQUEEN OF KELOWNA:

Kyla ‘Pro-Am’ Thompson had a successful weekend in so many ways. On paper, two fourth place finishes in Superclass may not stand out, but when it’s against three former and current National Champs, it truly does.

Those extra laps, countless gates and the constant fight against gravity are paying off.

ne year ago, we featured Alberta’s Logan Lee in the ‘Next Gen’ feature and she is well on her way to becoming the next Molly Simpson, Canada’s 2028 Olympic hopeful. Logan made her season debut in Superclass a good one, finishing behind National Amateur Champ, Tiffany Brosius on Friday and then rode away with the win on Saturday to take the early series lead. It was also exciting to see Keira Murphy back after a season plagued by injuries; she showed steady improvement with each lap. Team Canada hopeful secured a spot on the podium with finishes of second and third over the weekend—welcome back, Keira!

In Superclass Men, Zach Frier began his season-long mission to win a third Superclass title in a row. When you add in his two Amateur Titles from 2015 and 2016, Zach is chasing a full house of National Titles.

Coming out of lane one, Frier wasted no time in forcing his way into the lead and kept the field at bay to claim the first win of the season. Lucas Zhou and Joshua Trerise rounded out the podium on Day One. Showing that anything can happen on the shorter indoor tracks, Lucas Zhou turned the tables a day later to capture the win ahead of Taylor Otterson, who laid down one of his best laps in recent history. The one-two performance for Zhou has him atop the standings.

To the delight of her fans, Canada’s Olympic hopeful, Molly Simpson, made a special appearance on Saturday for a meet and greet, followed by an excit ing autograph session. After engaging with the crowd and a presentation featuring Kelowna’s Elliott and Alexa Crawford, the Dangergirl team hosted an exclusive signing event, complete with custom posters and plenty of high fives.

Cycling Canada’s Nation al Team coach, Adam Muys, was on hand to watch the action while scout ing the motos for Canada’s next Molly Simpson!

On the Factory team front, Rift Tangent picked up a pair of wins while the stacked Danger boy squad took Saturday honours. Expect this battle to come down to the wire at the Canadian Grands this fall. It was an Island sweep in the Team Trophy category with Coal Hills winning the first two days before Nanai mo laid down the law for the upset win on Sunday.

The Canadian National series makes its way to Nepean BMX, located just southwest of Ottawa, for the Capital City Nationals. Expect some changes in the leaderboards before the series returns to the West Coast in June for the Sea 2 Sky Nationals at Squamish BMX .

25 ALIVE: 13 Expert was the largest class of the weekend and if you wanted to make it to even the semis, you had to boost the big doubles out of turn one. Zachary Chubey and Ryder Furst prove the point, but only Furst would find his way onto the podium, earning a pair of thirds.

BACK & FORTH: Emerson Lloyd and Trestle Tiedge traded wins in the wild 9 Expert boys class and then on Sunday, CNAT#2 Jasper Han would find his own groove to capture the last win of the weekend.

GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY: Ella Johanson and Monroe Lambert raced to the front of the line to get their autographed posters from Alberta’s Molly Simpson. And it was a long, long line. Molly, who is the reigning USA BMX Pro Women’s Champion, went on to sign bikes, magazines and even body parts!

The Capital City Nationals at Nepean BMX in Ottawa saw a great weekend of racing and a mix of Canadians and US riders, giving it a ‘Can-Am’ vibe. With a favourable exchange rate, the National attracted riders from 19 states and for Canadian riders, they get to test their skills against some of the top USA BMX riders on their home turf.

OPEN SEASON

The Canadians held their own in the Open and Mixed Open classes including wins by Summer Vallier in 15-16 Mixed, Madison Nebesny in 13-14 mixed and Jakobi Leonetti and Braxton Hillebrandt with seconds in 1112.

USA IS CRUISIN’

The Women’s and Men’s cruiser classes were dominated by US riders but Ashton Berends (CNAT 4) managed to capture a pair of wins in 15 cruiser while BC’s Jon Rondeau earned seconds in a combined 1755 class. Not bad for the well-traveled 51 year old who has his sights set on a National title this year.

THE HUNTER

The 10 expert boys class became the hunting ground for Stouffville’s Julius Nielsen all three days and each day, a new victim would fall. In Friday’s main, Nielsen took Milton’s Roman Daniel in

turn two, and when Daniel tried to return the favour, he found himself rolling down to the bottom of the turn. Fast forward to Day Two and this time it was Damien Reyes from Indiana who was the hunted leaving Nielsen with two big wins. On Sunday, he would escape the carnage in turn one to go three-for-three on the weekend.

THE TRAVELER

BC’s Jon Rondeau has been all over North America and looks to be on a quest to move up the National standings in both countries. He made the trip out to Nepean worthwhile, capturing wins in 51-55 expert all three days, but had to settle for seconds in a combined 17-55 cruiser class. The big weekend put him atop the National standings in Canada and top 4 NAG in the US!

Malakai Bergeron rode like a man possesed in the 16 expert, a class that featured more US than Canadian riders. Malakai won all of his laps and may have helped Nepean BMX pump up their Track vs. Track club team totals... but not enough to beat a rival Canadian club...

The new Track vs. Track club competition rewards local tracks for promoting the series to their Novice and Intermediate riders and top results from those classes helped Stouffville BMX pull off the upset against the host club, with Milton placing third overall.

The Nepean BMX team did a great job hosting the first Eastern Canadian National and their track is always popular with the riders. The next Eastern National goes off in Stouffville, August 7-9.

He may be quiet along the fenceline, cool, calm, and collected in staging, but when Minnesota’s Jackson Stauffer hits the track, he’s louder than ever. Racing out of Cannon Falls, MN, Stauffer, like many others, began BMX racing as a family outing that turned into a constant obsession. Allegedly hopping the fence at Faribault BMX to get his first experience on track, a four-year-old Jackson Stauffer started his eight-year journey to the National No.1 Cruiser Title.

From every interaction we’ve had with Jackson Stauffer, it’s clear to see his obsession with BMX. From race lines to point battles, the now 13-yearold holds his bike and his family close to him, and they hold him right back. Son to Jake and Kali Stauffer, the title-winning family took their love of the BMX community on the road for the next years of Jackson’s BMX career. Weekend after weekend, mile after mile, the Stauffers embraced everything that came with the BMX lifestyle. Long

drives, late nights, countless laps, and friendships that stretched far beyond the Minnesota state line became a way of life.

Surrounded by Minnesota speed and obsession, Jackson stayed right alongside his older peers from the Minnesota race scene. Joining Black Widow BMX in 2018, the road to National Warrior truly began as Stauffer and his family grew closer to the team and began spider-webbing their connections across the US. With experience and full faith in Stauffer’s abilities, the time came for the 12 Cruiser main event at the 2025 USA BMX Grand Nationals. By the time Tulsa rolled around, Stauffer had put together the type of season that kept him in the conversation all year long. Consistent finishes and big weekends had positioned him for an opportunity, but Grand Nationals are never easy. The pressure was real, the math was complicated, and every transfer and every lap mattered. The National No.1 title was within reach, but only if things went exactly right.

Since that brisk night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stauffer has worn the NAT No.1 plate well. Strapping on clips as he aged up into 13 Cruiser and 13 Expert. The black plate with a skinny digit hasn’t changed his love for the sport, it’s fueled it. The expectations are bigger, the competition is tougher, and the target on his back is larger than ever, but Jackson continues to approach the sport with the same calm demeanor that got him there in the first place.

Everyone around them knew the numbers. Phones were out, calculators were running, and every lap that rolled onto the track carried another piece of the National No.1 puzzle.

Continuing to be a role model for kids around the track just like he does at home for his own siblings, Jackson Stauffer is a perfect example of what a first visit to the BMX track can turn into. Whether it’s signing a number plate for a younger rider, hanging around the Answer pit, or simply sharing laughs with friends after racing is over, Stauffer understands that BMX is more than trophies and points. It’s the people, the places, and the memories made along the way.

The 2026 USA BMX Great Northwest Nationals brought racers and fans to Redmond, Oregon, where the dirt track sat center stage inside the First Interstate Bank Arena. With perfect views surrounding the indoor venue at the Deschutes Fairgrounds, every move, every dive bomb, and every first-straight sprint played out in front of an energized crowd that was treated to one of the most action-packed weekends of the season.

When it came to the track built for the weekend, two spots caught the racers’ eyes when first walking into the arena. First was the double out of turn one. Long and deep, the jump would split the laps between senders and survivors down the second straight. And the second was the almost over-vert third turn. While racers are used to seeing a small, tight final turn, the shovel heads carved the turn to perfection, keeping as much action in the turn as possible. The fast ladies of 46-50 Women Cruiser showed up to prove their prowess around the Deschutes Fairgrounds. With a full rack of speed lined up, two racers jumped to the front. Katti Fields and Melissa Bray duked it out through the weekend, taking to the turns to look for passing opportunities. Bray kicked off the weekend with the class’s win, but Fields bounced back and left the weekend with two wins and a second place, taking the bragging rights and building anticipation for the next time these two meet in the first turn.

grow riders into better versions of themselves. In Redmond, the matchup from 15 Cruiser and 15x brought fans to their feet and put both racers into the winner’s circle. Riley Beaman and Jayce Fishbaugh found each other like two magnets in the junk drawer around the track. With the classes fastest-first straight, Beaman led almost every lap between the two classes. Beaman had the power, but Fishbaugh had the racecraft, all culminating in turn three. The turn had plenty of moments and the 15 year olds accounted for many of them with Jayce Fishbaugh cutting under Beaman to start off the weekend. In 15 Cruiser on Saturday, Fishbaugh manueled into the perfect position to make the bump-and-run move and take the total points win. Beaman got wins of his own through the weekend, leaving the fairgrounds with four wins, including a double on Sunday. While most classes focused the crowd’s

Friday’s main saw Cole Bradshaw and Chad Harper drag racing down the first straight, but with a well-timed cut to the low line in turn one, Elliott made just enough contact to put Bradshaw on the white line and sprint out of the turn with the lead. Looking for redemption in Saturday’s main, Eric Mueller joined the fun, making a turn two x-pass move on Bradshaw, claiming the lead for a brief moment until Elliot copied his move and pimped him into the exit of turn three. While Bradshaw drew the short spoke during the first two days of racing, he came back on Sunday with a wireto-wire win to round off the weekend in Oregon. As one of my personal favorite stops on the circuit, the weekend had plenty of moments to look back on. From catching up with Ray Hudson as he

watched his son Logan Hudson race his first National, to seeing a first-time double from 15-16x Girl Kymberlee Porter, the stop in Redmond brought high vibes to the adrenaline-fueled sport.

As the dirt settled inside the First Interstate Bank Arena, the Great Northwest Nationals delivered exactly what BMX fans have come to expect from Redmond. Some riders left with trophies. Others left with revenge on their minds. Either way, the 2027 stop will once again be circled on our schedule.

The house that BMX built, once a dirt outdoor track waiting for summer to finally arrive, is now the indoor BMX track, hosting every level of BMX racing all year long. Rum River BMX features not only a track built to test even the best racers, but also a facility that stands up against any in the country. From the snack shack, to loaner bikes, to the bike shop, Rum River is a dream for BMX families looking to spend their time at the track. Rounding past the picnic tables and bike depot, we’re reminded of the track out there, past the yellow rope and the action that awaits the weekend.

We wanted action, and we got action. From 8 Cruiser, the biggest battles came from the littlest of legs. Amelia Farley and Kenna Mings duked it out around the track, and with total points on the line all weekend long, every lap mattered. Charging through contact over the first jump and doing anything to pass the other, the ladies brought a show to the last straight crowd, sprinting all the way to the line. Once the rubber cooled and the crowd settled, they prepared for their tie-breaking Sunday matchup. Stacked elbow to elbow down the first three straightaways and tied at three points apiece, Amelia Farley held down the inside through their third and final lap, but Mings wasn’t going down without a fight. Turning down the final stretch, the pair lined up and pumped to the finish. And of course, it was a photo finish. With barely an elbow’s edge all the way around the track, little Amelia Farley’s little legs held on strong to claim the Sunday win and break the tie, leaving Rum River BMX with two wins in 8 & Under Girls Cruiser.

As one of the few places to ride through those long, dark Northern winter months, racers from surrounding states head to the

BMX haven that is Rum River BMX. In 11 Cruiser, two of those winter warriors tested their abilities through the Land O’ Lakes Nationals. Wyoming’s Kaelan Schioldan and North Dakota’s Graham Burke raced like they had perfected every line. With a fast line from the middle of the group, Schioldan snagged the lead through the holeshot, but Burke was patiently waiting for his time to strike. Down the third straight, Burke saw his opportunity as Schioldan drifted wide entering turn three. Staying low and protecting the inside, Burke made the move and shut down any doubt about who would cross the line first. Burke would go on to add another win on Saturday, but Schioldan got one of his own to cap off the weekend in 11 Cruiser.

Through the 20-inch racing, the heaters kept coming. From move-up wins by Sterling Babineau in 11 Novice to confidence-building victories from Caleb McGowan in 6 Intermediate, each lap energized the crowd and set the stage for the Expert classes waiting their turn. 15-16 Girls Expert belonged to the very fast local Kendal Ehlen, followed by a constant contender from the Minnesota Pro/Am Series, Tay Boecker, in 17-20 Women Expert.

The hits kept coming through the boys’ racing as well, with Jackson Stauffer chasing after Chase Perkins in 13 Expert. While Stauffer grabbed the early weekend win, Perkins bounced back and defended his lead all the way to two victories in 13 Expert. Up in the 16 Expert class, it was a weekend of chaos. Friday kicked off with a turn-two pileup that brought Caden Lashbrook to the winner’s circle, but on Saturday and Sunday, Ryder Scranton went full focus on the light, getting out quick and never looking back on his way to two wins in Minnesota.

As the gates dropped one final time and the Minnesota crowd packed up for another week, Rum River BMX once again proved why racers brave the snow and frozen roads to get there. From photo finishes and comeback rides to breakout wins and weekend sweeps, the Land O’ Lakes Nationals delivered everything BMX families could ask for. In a state where winter tries its hardest to keep bikes hanging in the garage, Rum River keeps the wheels turning, the competition fierce, and the BMX community rolling all year long.

Cobb County BMX hosts many top-notch riders who race on the National circuit. The track is known for its decision-maker on the second straight and its ability to produce a lot of style over the last obstacle before the finish line. So much so that our photographers had a field day during practice, capturing every moment and sharing it across social media, reeling in thousands of likes and views.

The weather was hot and humid, with a touch of rain lingering in the air—spring clinging on as summer is just around the corner. Much needed rain was forecast across Georgia, and on Saturday, the sky darkened before a steady drizzle set in. Riders had to quickly adjust their tactics, especially in the turns and at the decision-maker.

Rain or shine, the 13 expert boys were the youngest group bold enough to tackle the Pro set, with Sutton Erwin leading the way on Day One. Opting for the Pro set proved to be a winning strategy, allowing him to build maximum speed against talented riders who chose the amateur line. When rain rolled in on Day Two, Erwin didn’t let up, and by Day Three, more riders tried to follow his lead— but none could match his pace. Erwin’s commitment earned him a clean sweep, claiming the top podium spot all three days. The 17-20 expert class delivered thrilling battles, highlighted by a standout women’s faceoff between Riley Jordan and local favorite Sadie Herrera. On Day One, Jordan started with a side-by-side battle with Herrera in the first round, looking poised

to bring home the win. During the main, Jordan led the pack right out of the gate, with Herrera maintaining a bikelength gap down the sec ond straight. Herrera faced a make-or-break moment, choosing to dive strategi cally into the second turn in a bold attempt to disrupt Jordan’s momentum. The crowd erupted, cheering both riders as they raced toward the finish line. After her daring move, Herrera powered through the final turn, nodding with excitement as she pushed hard on the pedals, accelerating all the way to the finish line. On Days Two and Three, Jordan showed no signs of slowing down—her relentless speed and determination carried her to back-to-back wins.

The men’s 17-20 expert class remains one of the biggest on the national circuit. Local rider Andrew Herrera rebounded after taking second on Day One,

showing undeniable speed on Days Two and Three to secure back-to-back wins.

More excitement from the locals: the 16-year-old class featured a close rivalry between Matteo Pigo and Evan Douglass, with both riders reaching the podium all weekend. On Day One, Douglass quickly recovered from a first-turn mix-up with Ozzie Rowe, but Pigo had a clean line into the turn and capitalized, taking the win with Douglass in second. Day Two saw Douglass come out on top, as both local riders celebrated their ongoing battle. On Day Three, Rowe broke through to win, while Pigo and Douglass finished second and third.

Factory Black Crown delivered a commanding performance, defeating seven teams over the weekend while consistently improving their scores each day. Team manager Ash Hicks praised all the riders, highlighting Wyatt Hicks for earning the most points for the team from his wins and the rider count. In the Bike Shop category, J&R Bicycles dominated, securing a flawless sweep to cap off the event.

With the Dixieland Nationals wrapped up at Cobb County BMX, the chase to win 2026 titles is in full effect.

The USA BMX Legacy Nationals 2026 at Hardesty National BMX Stadium delivered a full weekend of elite BMX racing, where comeback victories, first-time winners, heavy crashes, and last-straight passes defined one of the most action-packed stops on the USA BMX Pro Series calendar.

In Men Pro, the spotlight was shared across both days with two very different storylines. Saturday saw Izaac Kennedy return to the top step for the first time since March of 2025, holding off a stacked field that included former teammate Joris Daudet. By Sunday, the script flipped entirely. A first-turn collision between Kennedy and Daudet triggered a massive pile-up, opening the door for Drew Polk to charge from last to first. Polk didn’t just inherit the lead—he defended it under pressure, making a decisive move in turn three to secure his first win of the 2026 season. Ryan Tougas and Simon Marquart rounded out Sunday’s reshuffled podium.

The Women Pro class showcased both tactical precision and championship composure. On Saturday, Saya Sakakibara knew she had to execute against Payton Ridenour and Molly Simpson down the first straight. With

the inside line and a clean first jump, Saya earned her second win of the season over Simpson and Ridenour. Sunday belonged to Simpson, the reigning National No.1, who battled through a stacked first straight with Ridenour and Lauren Reynolds. After Ridenour briefly took a look for the lead in turn two, Simpson stayed smooth and carried her speed to the line, resecuring the top spot in a high-level showdown.

History was made and then reinforced in Vet Pro by Christopher Mireles. On Saturday, Mireles became the first rider from Mexico to win at the pro level on the USA BMX circuit, in a race that also featured a dramatic early crash between Barry Nobles and Justin Riddell, sidelining Nobles and testing Riddell’s resilience. Sunday brought a different kind of intensity, as Mireles and Riddell entered the final tied in their total points racing. In a

perfectly timed move down the last straight, Mireles edged out Riddell at the line to complete a breakout two for two weekend.

In ABA Futures Men, consistency and chaos both played a role across the weekend. Tommy Bruney set the tone on Saturday with a powerful outside move to the holeshot, battling alongside Chris Felker and Zakary Kaiser before a crash reshaped the race. Bruney capitalized and continued his winning momentum. On Sunday, it was Evan Esposito who found clean air out of turn one in another tightly contested main. With Bruney and Kaiser charging behind, Esposito stayed composed to take the win, highlighting the depth and competition in the class.

The ABA Futures Women delivered dramatic swings both days. Satur-

day’s main saw Preslie Gould take advantage of mid-race mistakes from Lily Ashley and Addison Thompson to secure her fourth win of the season. But Sunday flipped the narrative, as Thompson put together her most complete lap of the weekend. After showing speed all weekend long, she broke through for the win, leading Preslie Gould and Danica Appenzeller on a track that demanded confidence and commitment.

The speeds from the Pro sched ule stuck around for the amateur racing under the Hardesty BMX roof. 14x Girls was a showcase of that speed, with Chase Burian and local girl, Mad Dog Baker, going side by side through the second and third straights. Burian kept the edge, but Baker definitely made her name known, knocking on the door of one of the class’s fastest racers. Just a few classes later on Saturday, another Okie showed her speed as Keeai ra Sherrill took a wire-to-wire win around Hardesty, returning to the top step of the podium for the first time in almost three years.

It wasn’t just the ladies getting after it; the Expert boys were in Tulsa to battle. While fans wanted to see bumpin’ and battlin’, these settled for impressively fast laps. In 14x Crosby Backer showed just how fast he is with a 37.933 on Saturday’s main event.

From breakout performances to redemption rides and historic milestones, the Legacy Nationals in Tulsa once again proved why it remains one of the most electric stops in BMX racing. Whether it was a last-to-first charge, a perfectly timed pass, or a career-defining victory, the weekend captured every element that makes BMX one of the most unpredictable and exciting sports on two wheels.

The California sun peeks over the trees, unveiling a two-wheeled haven tucked into Bakersfield. Easy-ups line the property, vendors zip-tie their final products to display racks, and BMX racers from across the country roll in, all chasing their share of the USA BMX National points standings.

Metro BMX has long been a favorite stop on the National circuit, and it’s easy to see why. From the wide-open first straightaways, to corners built for bar-to-bar battles and laterace passes, the action always finds another gear at Metro.

For the 2026 Golden State Nationals, and honestly, any California National, the intensity gets cranked to an 11. With stacked classes bringing elite-level competition to Bakersfield, here’s a look at three groups that had the grandstands on their feet all weekend long.

Powered by flat-pedal speed into the first turn, Barrett Macias grabbed the point in 12 Cruiser during Friday’s mains. But the pack wasn’t ready to hand it over. Charging into turn two, Gus Cruz and Alexander Martin pulled alongside Macias and turned up the pressure. While the trio battled for control, Colin Wooten, representing the Cyclecraft crew, quietly worked his way into contention and followed Macias across the line for a onme-two finish.

Saturday introduced another challenger as Trenton Paxman entered the mix and immediately tested the class’s limits. Paxman delivered a wire-to-wire lap for the win, while Macias backed it

up with a second-place finish, and Cruz rounded out the podium in third.

Up in the girls’ ranks, 15-16 Girls delivered one of the biggest rider counts of the season, featuring a true who’s who of the class. Addison Thompson, Landon Burian, and Preslie Gould entered Bakersfield as the favorites, but Danica Appenzellar and Kymberlee Porter made sure nobody could relax for a single lap around Metro.

Addison Thompson made the trip from Montana to prove her speed against the California crowd, and she did exactly that. Thompson swept all three days of racing in dominant fashion, going wire-to-wire in every main event she entered. Heading into Nashville, she’ll carry plenty of momentum and confidence in her bike bag.

And then there was the class that shook the finish-line grandstands: 15 Expert. Nate Walker, Judah Anderson, and Jorge Montano III threw their names into the fire, and the sparks flew all weekend long.

FIN:

At the end of a long and fun weekend some legends stuck around the finishline to capture a moment from their Golden State racing.

Saturday’s main event tore around the track with Walker and Anderson locked in a heated battle for the lead. As the two traded blows through turn three, Montano spotted an opening and capitalized, storming from third to first to secure another win after his wire-towire performance in Friday’s main.

By Sunday, Anderson and Walker were both hungry to leave Bakersfield with a victory of their own. Judah Anderson appeared poised to finally claim the top spot, but an unfortunate clip malfunction ended his lap early. Nate Walker stayed smooth and fast to the line, sealing the Sunday win and closing out one of the weekend’s most electric classes.

Bakersfield brought the heat, Metro BMX brought the chaos, and the Golden State Nationals reminded everyone why California racing hits different.

The 2026 USA BMX Music City Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee delivered what can only be described as a memorable Music City Nats, unpredictable weather, unforgettable racing, and a weekend that tested every rider’s grit.

Overnight rain and scattered storms transformed the track into a slick, muddy battlefield, forcing riders to adapt lap after lap as conditions changed throughout the weekend. Ruts formed through the straights, streams flowed through the infield, and mud attached itself to every surface imaginable. Smooth laps were hard to come by, and riders who could stay composed, manage frustration, and simply survive the chaos rose to the top during one of the most physically demanding weekends of the season.

In Vet Pro, Jeff “Big Jeff” Upshaw powered through the Saturday mud to score the win aboard his

Driven Cycling Academy/Crupi ride, while Tyler Smith backed it up with a consistent second-place finish. On Sunday, Smith flipped the script and captured the victory himself after another demanding day of racing, with Cory Franzwa and Christopher “Doctor” Mireles joining him on the podium.

Addison “Alligator” Thompson emerged as one of the breakout stars of the weekend in ABA Futures Women, sweeping Friday’s UCI racing and Saturday’s ABA Futures Main with smooth, aggressive laps in the muddy conditions. Preslie “The Piston” Gould and Landon Burian rounded out Saturday’s podium, while Burian returned Sunday alongside Danica Appenzeller after another hectic speed-driven main event.

The ABA Futures Men class delivered bar-to-bar action all weekend long. Marshall “Major” Gehrke led the charge on Saturday ahead of Ronan Weber and Lucas Zhou, while Sunday saw Evan “Easy

E” Esposito rise to the top after a clean and controlled main event over Kaiden Ireland and Gaige Gomolicke.

In Women Pro, Molly Simpson proved unstoppable in the mud, sweeping the weekend against stacked competition. Simpson was joined on Saturday’s podium by the returning “Mama Beast” Alise Willoughby and McKenzie Gayheart before towing Alexis “AA” Alden and Derin Merten around the track on Sunday for another impressive victory.

The Men Pro class capped off both days with intense international battles as Kamren Larsen dominated the weekend with back-to-back wins. Larsen handled the brutal conditions better than anyone, taking Saturday’s victory over Simon Marquart and Jordan “Wolf” Callum before repeating the feat Sunday with Callum and Marquart once again rounding out the podium.

The pro classes were simply along for the ride when it came to the ever-changing schedule, but it was the amateurs who faced the extra-tall task

of maintaining composure deep into the night and then returning early the next morning. With storms rolling over the facility, Day One racing was pushed into Day Two, and Day Two racing eventually spilled into Day Three, packing the remainder of the weekend into one action-packed Sunday.

Despite the exhaustion and ever-changing track conditions, the 8 Girls Experts brought plenty of excitement to their Sunday morning main event. Addalyn Hardy and Alaska Shepherd quickly took command, chasing each other through the muddy straights. Hardy held off the charge through the third turn, but Shepherd found her line

through the ruts and pedaled to a dramatic pass at the stripe. The thrilling duel capped a perfect weekend for Shepherd, who swept all three days of racing during the rainy Memorial Day classic.

It seemed every amateur class had its own story, and 12 Girls Expert was no exception. Gracelyn Burnsworth, Malia “Baby Mangler” Alvarez, Keely Nelson, and Sawyer Smith put on a show all weekend in pursuit of the top spot. Alvarez opened the weekend with the win, but the PowerFX ride of Burnsworth finished strong with two victories on Sunday. The first came with a wire-to-wire charge from the middle of the gate. The second required some quick instincts as Burnsworth slipped through after contact between Nelson and Alvarez down the third straight, making a dip-and-dodge move to secure the win.

And those battles were everywhere. Riders came back from spinning out of the gate, survived contact through the slippery straights, and found creative lines through the turns despite Mother Nature’s best efforts to slow them down. The Music City Nationals delivered some of the most entertaining racing of the season and is certainly bookmarked on the USA BMX YouTube channel for anyone looking to relive the action. From soaked jerseys and mud-covered number plates to dramatic mains and survival-style racing, Nashville delivered a weekend riders won’t soon forget.

It wasn’t always pretty, but that’s exactly what made it memorable.

TSPRING

ake a trip into the Duke City, where the USA BMX National tour heads under the roof of Duke City BMX for the 2026 Spring Nationals. Returning to a good’ole dirt track for another weekend of racing, the BMX family was met with fast battles down the first straight and all-out moves in each of the Duke City turns. With fans packing the fenceline and factory row sitting proudly behind them, racers and fans alike were ready to bring the action to Albuquerque.

With any National stop, there are some big goals on the minds of racers as they load into the gate. However big or small, those goals can add to the pressure when the lights flash and the gate drops for our intermediate classes. Those goals were to get that final move up win, and Friday brought a string of them right away into the weekend. From Owen Pruznak in 6 Intermediate, Ethan Hanson in 7 Intermediate, Carson Kaess in 8 Intermediate, and Austin Montoya in 11 Intermediate, a giant congratulations came with silly string showers and celebration down the finish line.

With silly string covering their race day kits and the winner’s circle, they joined the Expert ranks and the battles that were to come throughout the weekend. Those battles were on full display in 17-20x Women with Izzy Sargent and Danica Anderson battling through the track. Sargent showed off her powerful speed down the first straight, but it was the Lil Avalanche, Danica Anderson, who showed off the track speed that got the job done on Friday and Saturday. Sargent didn’t leave empty-handed, picking up the Sunday win with another electric first straight.

Their male counterparts in 17-20x brought the battles, as did Cutter Godaire, Ian Westerman, and Nick Quintana, who showcased their raw dirt-track speed. Godaire led each and every lap out of the first turn, but with a mistake in turn two during Friday’s main event, Ian Westerman was able to capitalize and claim a big win with 24 riders in the class. Godaire bounced back and got his win on Saturday, and it looked like he was headed for another on Sunday, but the local boy Nick Quintana showcased his fast last straight lines. Staying low over all three jumps and grabbing the win by centimeters, with a lunge at the line, the teammates raced hard and celebrated harder with a hug at the finish line after an electric weekend of 17-20x racing. Back down to the 15-16x Girls, another local was putting her hat in the ring for the Duke City BMX track vs track standings. Danica Appenzeller and teammate Landon Burian took the top two spots in the class all weekend long, and while

Hunting for backside and position, Harper Wilson and Emilee Riggs have their hair flowing through 13x.

Landon started the weekend off with a win, Appenzeller was not going down without a fight. Finding her chance to make a move in turn two during Saturday’s main, Duke City’s local girl got underneath her teammate and shut the door, ready to charge through the back half of the track. With plenty of experience racing each other, Landon seemed to know the script and quickly recovered to lay down a fast last straight, ultimately reclaiming the lead, going on to sweep the weekend in 15-16x Girls.

Even further down in the 8x ranks, Sunday’s main event brought a little charge with Bio-Lab Syndyt’s Binx Hill, grabbing the holeshot and fighting hard to maintain his lead. While he did everything right, covering his inside and grabbing every pedal he could around the track, the Icee/An derson 209 ride, Camilo Fernandez, showcased his track speed, making the charge down the third straight and overtaking the lead to grab two wins on the weekend. Mr. Hill wasn’t done, however, as he bounced back and was determined to grab a win of his own on Sunday. It wasn’t just the teenagers or little rippers getting in on the action; the 4650x group made sure they got their time and their cheers from the fans during Saturday’s racing. Brian Randolph got out to an early lead, but Daniel Coriz was determined to hunt him down, pulling up alongside him down third straight. Daniel kept it smooth and kept his fast lines charging to gain momentum and a pass at the line, taking the win in 46 to 50 expert.

The 2026 USA BMX Freestyle Series officially kicked off on April 26 at Clairemont skatepark in San Diego, California. Riders, families, and friends packed the legendary park for the season opener, bringing plenty of energy and excitement to one of BMX’s most historic destinations. While rain impacted the weekend and forced schedule adjustments the day before, sunny skies returned on Sunday and provided perfect conditions for competition.

As a city with deep BMX roots, San Diego remains one of the sport’s true meccas. Hosting a national event at Clairemont not only celebrates that history, but also gives the next generation of riders an opportunity to showcase their progression at one of the most iconic parks in the country. From the youngest competitors to the more experienced riders, the level of talent on display made it clear that the future of BMX freestyle is in good hands.

One of the standout moments of the day came in the 11-12 Men class when Huck Kurinsky nailed a perfect backflip barspin that brought the crowd to its feet. The trick earned an additional $500 from BMX legend Mike Spinner, as it was the trick that stood out to him the most in the competition. Riders throughout the day continued to push themselves, with Wiley Champion once again demonstrating skills and bike control well beyond his years.

The youngest competitors also left a lasting impression. The 8 & Under class continues to raise the bar at every stop, with riders showing more confidence, style, and progression than ever before. Their enthusiasm and determination were a reminder of exactly why events like these matter.

With an incredible turnout, great riding, and a strong start to the season, Clairemont delivered everything that makes BMX special. The 2026 USA BMX Freestyle Series is officially underway, and next up, the tour heads east to Premises Park in Tucson, Arizona.

The Monster Army Recon Tour officially returned on April 25, 2026 at Clairemont skatepark in San Diego, California, bringing together the next generation of BMX freestyle talent alongside some of today’s top professional riders. As the proving ground where future stars earn their opportunity to shine, the Recon Tour continues to showcase exactly why Monster Army remains committed to fueling the future of action sports athletes.

Despite challenging weather throughout the event, riders made the most of their time at one of BMX’s most iconic skateparks. Clairemont’s deep BMX history and passionate local scene created the perfect backdrop for a day filled with progression, competition, and unforgettable moments.

The Intermediate class saw local favorite Connor Siegel rise to the occasion and claim the victory in front of the hometown crowd. In Sport, Monster Army teammates Aaden Reed and Ronan Fazio put on one of the most exciting battles of the day. Both riders are progressing at an incredible rate and continue to establish themselves as two of the brightest young talents in BMX. When the dust settled, it was Reed who earned the top spot, with Fazio close behind.

The Women Open division was won by Sonny Moreno, who delivered a strong performance throughout the competition. In UCI C1 Pro Women, Olympic silver medalist and multiple-time world champion Hannah Roberts reminded everyone why she remains one of the most dominant riders in the sport, taking the win with a commanding performance.

The UCI C1 Pro Men division was packed with talent and featured some of the day’s highest-level riding during qualifying. Unfortunately, rain forced the cancellation of finals, meaning qualifying scores stood as the official results. When the scores were tallied, Bryce Tryon claimed the victory. The win was a fitting moment for Tryon, who began his journey through the Recon Tour more than a decade ago and now returns as one of the sport’s established professionals.

With another successful stop in the books, the 2026 Monster Army Recon Tour is off to a strong start. Next up, the series heads to Premises Park in Tucson, Arizona, where the next generation of riders will once again have the opportunity to prove themselves on one of BMX freestyle’s biggest stages.

The Monster Army Recon Tour made its second stop of 2026 at Premises Park in Tucson, Arizona - a venue with deep roots in the tour’s history, having hosted events during the series’ original run many years ago. It was great to be back at a spot that has long been a staple of the Recon Tour, and the riders did not disappoint. Coming off an epic first stop at Clairemont skatepark in San Diego, the energy and expectations were high, and Premises Park delivered on every level.

In the Intermediate class, local favorite Samuelle Moreno was an immediate standout, turning heads throughout the day with his style and creative trick selection. Moreno’s riding resonated with the hometown crowd, but when the scores were tallied it was Isaac Gonzalez who claimed the victory - a strong rebound for Gonzalez, who had finished second at the opening stop in San Diego. Moreno earned a welldeserved second place finish, with Alberto Esquivel rounding out the podium in third.

The Sport class was stacked from top to bottom, and Monster Army’s Aaden Reed continued his tear of dominance, securing first place for the second consecutive stop. Reed is riding at an exceptionally high level right now and is establishing himself as one of the most exciting young talents in BMX freestyle. Canada’s Henry Thomas also delivered an impressive performance throughout the day, earning second place and making a strong statement of his own. Cullen Sumner rounded out the podium in third.

In Women Open, Sonny Moreno held it down once again, edging out Ryder Bunkley for the top spot in another strong performance. Emilee Riggs finished third in what continues to be a growing and competitive division.

2020 Olympics, with gold medalist Charlotte Elizabeth Worthington and silver medalist Hannah Roberts squaring off once again for the top spot. This time, the results flipped from the Olympic podium - Roberts took first with a commanding performance, with Worthington finishing second and Charlie Berry in third.

In UCI C1 Pro Men, new pro Jake Rutkowitz delivered one of the most meaningful moments of the day, securing his first-ever C1 event victory in what was a significant milestone in his young career. Rutkowitz edged out YouTube sensation Matty Cran-

mer in second and local rider Victor Peraza in third, with Nick Akerman rounding out the field in fourth. It was a hard-fought win that signals big things ahead for Rutkowitz.

With two strong stops now in the books, the 2026 Monster Army Recon Tour is rolling with serious momentum. Next up, the series heads to Pat Casey’s Dreamyard on June 20th - one of the most iconic locations in the BMX world - where the next generation of riders will once again have the chance to make their mark on one of action sports’ biggest stages.

2026 freestyle tour stop 2: TUCSON, AZ

The 2026 USA BMX Freestyle Series rolled into Tucson, Arizona, on May 31 for its second stop of the season, and Premises Park delivered in a big way. Riders from across the country descended on one of the tour’s most beloved venues, bringing serious riding and an undeniable energy that reminded everyone why BMX freestyle continues to grow.

Tucson has become a true staple on the USA BMX Freestyle Series, and a big reason for that is the work that Ian and the team at Premises Park put in year-round to support the sport and the community around it.

Events like these don’t happen without people who genuinely care, and that dedication showed in every aspect of the day.

Adding to the excitement, BMX legends Scotty and Matty Cranmer were on hand to take in the action, hosting the jam session after practice and bringing their trademark enthusiasm to the event. Fans can catch the highlights on their popular YouTube channel, giving the Tucson stop some well-deserved exposure to a wider audience.

On the competition floor, riders of all ages pushed the level higher throughout the day. The 9-10 class was one of the tightest of the event, with competitors leaving everything on the course and making every run count. Trapper Miller was a standout in the younger ranks, landing a perfect flair that had the crowd buzzing.

Wiley Champion once again proved why his name is hard to forget. After battling through adversity during the competition, he came back strong on his second run to seal the win - a reminder that mental toughness matters just as much as raw talent.

Huck Kurinsky continued his charge through the season with a backflip barspin launched over the entire box, paired with high-flying flair variations that turned heads from every corner of the park.

Brendan Ashdown brought technical precision to the mix, stomping a fully clicked turndown out of a double peg stall. In the Masters Class, Mark Lukens pulled a flair, proving once again that progression doesn’t have an age limit.

On the women’s side, Sonny Moreno put together a run full of great style and confidence, showing out in a major way and representing the women’s field with a performance that left a lasting impression.

USA BMX Foundation recently graduated the 11th cohort of RISE. RISE: (Resliliency, Inclusion, Social Awareness and Education) athletes. The 12 week program was capped off with an evening of achievement. With every diploma, every student was awarded a new Hyper BMX bike, a personalized long sleeve race jersey and a BMX helmet. In addition to the tangible items, each graduate earned lifetime membership to Hardesty National BMX Stadium. Every Tuesday afternoon at Hardesty National BMX Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma, something special happens.

A group of young people arrive carrying different stories, different challenges, and different backgrounds. Some have never ridden a BMX bike before. Others are searching for a place where they belong. Over the next three hours, they discover much more than racing and riding—they discover confidence, mentorship, friendship, and opportunity.

This is RISE, the joint effort of USA BMX Foundation and the Terence Crutcher Foundation. RISE is the

acronym for Resiliency, Inclusion, Social Awareness and Education.

RISE is a free 12-week immersive youth development program designed to serve youth in the Tulsa community. Through the power of BMX, participants learn valuable life skills while engaging in a healthy activity that can become a lifelong passion.

Each week begins on the track, where students learn fundamental BMX skills from experienced coaches and mentors. Riders quickly discover that BMX is about more than speed. It teaches perseverance, discipline, goal setting, and the importance of getting back up after a setback.

The lessons continue off the track as participants spend time with mentors who provide encouragement, guidance, and positive role models. Every session includes a shared meal, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations and connections that extend beyond BMX.

Since its inception, RISE has continued to grow. The program now graduates approximately 30

students every 12 weeks, serving nearly 160 youth annually. As the program celebrates its 11th graduating class, the impact can be seen throughout the Tulsa community.

The culmination of each session is a graduation ceremony that celebrates the hard work and dedication of every participant. Graduates receive a new Hyper BMX bicycle, helmet, personalized jersey, and a lifetime membership to Hardesty National BMX Stadium. More importantly, they leave with new skills, new friendships, and a supportive community behind them.

For many students, graduation is not the end of their BMX journey—it is just the beginning.

Former participants can often be found back at the track, continuing to ride, volunteering, or encouraging the next group of RISE students. The program creates a cycle of mentorship and support that strengthens with every graduating class.

BEYOND THE BERM

LEXINGTON BMX

What began as a bold idea in 2007 has accelerated into one of the East Coast’s premier BMX racing destinations, a facility built on grit, community backing, and a relentless push for growth.

At the center of it all was James Bagwell, a former track operator of the old Columbia BMX track who saw an opportunity to bring a non-traditional sport to South Carolina’s Midlands. With support from the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission—which provided land, clay, and asphalt—and early backing from Contract Construction, a local construction partner, the vision quickly turned tangible. The original track director, Eddie Sox, even designed a machine to spread asphalt on the turns and starting hill. Even in its earliest days, Lexington BMX wasn’t just a track—it was a community project.

That identity carried into the design itself. Built by Olympic track designer Tom Ritzenthaler, the facility featured a towering starting hill, paved berms, and a layout that rewarded both speed and precision. It didn’t take long for riders to take notice.

By May 2010, the track had already reached a defining moment, hosting the NBL Dixieland Nationals under the National Bicycle League banner. More than 1,000 racers and fans packed the venue, with international talent flying in from across the globe. The weekend’s headline belonged to Olympic gold medalist Maris Strombergs, who captured the Pro Men’s win—an early signal that Lexington BMX had arrived on the national stage.

When the NBL merged with the American Bicycle Association to form USA BMX in 2011, the track didn’t miss a beat. Instead, it evolved.

That evolution hit another gear when Victor Tomaino took over as track operator. A Marine Corps veteran, Tomaino approached the role with a clear objective: build a program that families across the Midlands could rally around. One of his first moves was establishing Lexington BMX as a nonprofit, creating a stronger framework for long-term sustainability and sponsorship.

From there, the upgrades came fast—and personal. Tomaino and his wife, Mariah, invested directly into the rider experience, purchasing a fleet of rental bikes and helmets while modernizing operations with a full point-of-sale system. Beginner-friendly rider leagues followed, opening the door for newcomers to enter the sport in a structured, low-pressure environment.

The impact was immediate. Participation surged, and within just two years, the track’s growth exceeded 200%.

But growth demanded more than programming—it required infrastructure. With support from Lexington County sports

leadership, including Commissioner Brian Duncan, over $110,000 in funding was secured to elevate the facility. The improvements were significant: a new starting gate, a concreted hill, fully asphalted turns, and the addition of a Sqorz timing system. By 2025, Lexington BMX had transformed into a venue capable of hosting the sport’s biggest events.

That transformation didn’t go unnoticed.

In a landmark moment, the track earned the bid for the 2026 Palmetto National under USA BMX—a milestone that underscores nearly two decades of steady progress.

Behind the scenes, a key partnership helped make it possible. Experience Columbia SC Sports, led by Scott Powers, has

played a pivotal role in bringing major events back to the region. That collaboration helped deliver the 2024 Southeast Gold Cup Final, drawing roughly 4,000 athletes and families and marking the event’s return to South Carolina after more than a decade.

Now, with the Palmetto National on deck, that partnership is once again driving investment. More than $30,000 in additional upgrades—including covered staging, expanded seating, and enhanced audio—are set to further elevate the experience for competitors and fans alike.

From a grassroots vision to a national-caliber venue, Lexington BMX’s rise isn’t just about racing. It’s about what can happen when a community commits to building something bigger than the track itself.
