What makes someone fall in love with a specific home? Some people swoon over fabulous pools or water views. Others value proximity to public transportation, specific neighborhoods or updated interior spaces. Realtor.com® recently analyzed keyword home search data to determine must-have features when searching for a home. Topping the list of most popular features are the makings for man-caves, she-sheds, workshops and granny pods. Whether buyers are pursuing extra rental income, looking for a workspace, or a place for visiting relatives, alternative living spaces are a top must-have item. Unsurprisingly, many people love their privacy -- acreage, fenced yard, room for horses and a country setting all made the top searched feature list. Room to roam and separation from neighbors is a hot commodity for this privacy-loving group. With a large number of baby boomers reaching retirement age, America seems to have fallen out of love with having to climb stairs. First-floor master, ranch, rambler, and single-level are top search terms. I’m not happy about it but, suddenly, I can relate. Proximity to local getaways with beautiful views is a top search term, as are lake view, canal, dock, lakeshore, and river access. We’re blessed to live in a region that offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the northeast. With an expansive list of must-have features to choose from, can you guess what Realtor.com® reports to be the most sought after home feature among NY homebuyers? A balcony. A balcony??? Without a doubt, that’s a downstate “thing”. While the results may not reflect the preferences of local house hunters, we’ll give them a pass this one time. We know upstate trumps downstate, every time.

Top Trends In Outdoor Living
