AUTHOR INTERVIEW

FINDING THE BEAUTY IN HER UNRAVELLING

Interview with Gail Ganney, author of The Beauty in Unravelling. Gail, tell us a bit about you personally and professionally.

I'm Gail, a mother of four children and now grandmother to five grandchildren. I am in Brighton but also in London, lived here all my life. Professionally, I started as a civil engineer in London then got the travel itch and moved to Australia

Australia at twenty-two. That has taken me into many different areas over the years. And then the last 20 years, essentially, I've been more business-focused, working with small startup companies. When did you first think you might like to write a book?

I think probably everybody's got a story and people kept telling me, “Oh, you should write a book.” And the reason is that when

I left England, sort of as a naive 22-year-old and returned definitely older and wiser, with children in tow and all kinds of challenges in my personal life. As I've gotten older and had a bit more time, one of my sons sat next to Matt Bird at lunch, and he told me about how interesting it was and said, “Mum, you should really do this.” That was when I thought maybe this is the right time to put some thoughts down. What is the heart of your book, The Beauty in Unravelling? I think everybody faces challenges in their lives and nobody can judge which are more difficult than others. It's all about us as individuals, how we are able to manage them, what our capacity for hurt and betrayal and all the rest of it is. I'm just an ordinary person who's gone through some trials and tribulations. So I would like to think that my book offers some hope and some inspiration. Things can look very bleak, but that's where you dig deep and learn life's hardest lessons. It's a book about growth and survival. Would you share when things were unravelling for you? I think I was about 30 years old, living in Puerto Rico with my husband

husband and pregnant with my third child. Life was throwing me a few curveballs. I was thinking that the challenges were because of X, Y, Z. It was a day when I understood they were because of A, B, C. Literally, the ground gave beneath me. I didn't cope terribly well in that moment. Then it was a case of rebuilding from there. So what is your hope for your book, Gail? I'm not doing this as a commercial venture, so to speak. I'm doing it as a personal project. Having said that, it would be quite fun to see it come to be a little series somewhere. I'm looking forward to getting feedback from different people. Also, to set a record for my children, I thought it would be really good for them to know me as a person and how all the decisions that I made, they could understand.

I would like to think that my book offers some hope and some inspiration. Gail Ganney Author of The Beauty in Unravelling

“A huge thanks to Matt Bird for being an excellent book coach. The ‘Writing My Book’ course has transformed me from having a ‘No I Canʼtʼ to a ‘Yes I Canʼ attitude and empowered me to write and publish my book.ˮ Sandra St. John

YOU HAVE A BOOK IN YOU TOO There comes a moment for many people, sometimes quietly and sometimes persistently, when a thought begins to surface… I have a book in me. It may be a story you have lived, a lesson you have learned or a message you feel called to share, something that could encourage, guide or change the life of someone else. And yet, for many, it remains unwritten, held back by doubt, uncertainty or not knowing where to begin. The truth is this. You do have a book in you and you are more capable of writing it than you realise. Writing a book is easier than you think, but only when you know how. With the right structure, support and encouragement, what once felt overwhelming becomes achievable, even enjoyable. That is why PublishU exists, to walk with you from idea to manuscript, from manuscript to book, and from book to opportunities.

“The Writing My Book course has been such an amazing experience. The structure of the course is excellent and helps you write a book in only 100 days, which I would never have been able to do on my own. I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to tell their story.” Mark Holden

“Are you looking to become an author? I can highly recommend Matt Bird's ‘Writing My Book’ 100-day course with PublishU. Very focused, encouraging & achievable course to get writing!ˮ Helena Croft MBE
