Interview with Emete Ogbomo, authorofInspiredForPurpose.
Tell us a little bit about you, Emete.
I am a lawyer specialising in employment law. I'm passionate about employment law. Because it deals with the employment relationship between the employer and the employee, and all the various manifold disputes that can happen. I have a prized position as someone passionate a
about justice, of being able to ensure the employer-employee relationship runs smoothly in the workplace. And where they don't runsmoothly,myroleistoensure that they do, and put things in place. And where things have been done wrongly, I advise my client on either side to put things right.Soeverydayisdifferent.
Whendidyoufirstthink,“I'dlike towriteabookˮ?
I would say, in all honesty, it was two
two years ago. Prior to that, my book and the contents had all been something I did on a daily basis. But two years ago in Sainsbury's,Ibumpedintoalady whom I didnʼt know and she said to me, “Are you an author? I get the impression that you're going to write a book and more than one book.ˮ And that really resonated with me. So I came home,dustedoffthatjournaland said, “I feel the nudge to put them all together in a book.ˮ And that'showithappened.
Your book is called Inspired For Purpose. What inspires you to writeit?
I don't know whether writers, songwriters or artists can relate to this, but it's like there's a flow. Forexample,Ispoketoafrienda couple of months ago and she explained to me about the challenges that she was going through. She actually said to me, “Emete,Idon'tlooklikewhatI've been through.ˮ And believe it or not, when I put the phone down, apoembegantoflowthatIdon't look like what I've been through. Anditjustflowed.Ihavetogeta pen. I have to get a recorder, write it down at the time. And actually,thecompletepoem,Iam actuallyinspiredtowritedownat thetime.
Well, in all honesty, each one of them, I was inspired to write for me. For example, when we had the first crazy outbreaks of riots in London, there was social upheaval. And there was just such a dissatisfaction in me regarding what I saw. And I just felt a nudge and inspiration to writeaboutthechallengesoflife, social upheaval and political discomfort. And so from that point of view, they're written for me and they're written to inspire otherstobeinjectedwithasense of hope. So yes, hence the title inspired for purpose. I was inspired to write them for a purposeforotherstobeinspired. Yeah, towards hope and much more. Doyouwriteitforyouordoyou writeittoshowotherpeople?
